Fuck, you really suck at geography. You didn't recognize cuba at the first time, you didn't know belize and panama. I thought you are better than this, I am disappointed and my day has ruined. And also the country you missed in south America is FRENCH GUYANA, part of France. And the African ones Niger, Nigeria, not that difficult to recognize these. You may know the Balkan countries better (MONTENEGRO), as a guy who from the Balkans.

I used to take this quiz every evening when I used to live in the UK, in order to learn countries names in English. The result is that now I can list all the countries in the world in English but not in my native language (Italian)

I'm doing this kind of quiz for a while now so 197/197. What I like to do is to play the "Paint the World" on Sporcle, where you start with a blank canvas and the countires only appear when you name them. Makes it a bit more challenging, also helps imo to remember where they are on the map.

Peter, you've totally hooked me up on this game! I play the one with an empty map like crazy. My whole family sat around me and helped, and for now our best result is 158!! There's not enough time, the slight language barrier sucks, we just need five more minutes!! But I usually get about 102 when I play alone. Just want to say a massive thanks. Geography used to scare me to death, but now I'm so eager to learn and play!!!!! ☀️

Palestine doesn't have its own prime minister/president nor its own currency. I understand that there are Palestinian people, but there is no Palestinian country, if im not mistaken.

Like Kurds, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Catalans, Frisians, Sorbs, Galicians, Basques, Ainu, Tatars, Saami, Berbers, Baluchis, virtually all native groups in Africa and the Americas. Endless list, many more than people with an own country.
How I memorized every country in the world:
1. Start with the big/recognizable ones (Canada, Russia, USA, Mexico, China, Australia-NZ, Argentina-Brazil, South Africa, India, Indonesia)
2. Central American (Nicara-gua-temala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama)
3. Cuba, Haiti, DR, Jamaica, 2 Bs (Bahamas-Barbados) and 7 smaller ones (3 saints, 1 Dominica, Antigua, Trinidad, Grenada)
4. South America is a piece of cake (just don't forget Guyana and Suriname)
5. 5 Nordic countries, Ireland-UK, Spain-Portugal, 5 micronations (Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Vatican City, San Marino)
6. Benelux, Germany, Poland, the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania)
7. Just group all the others. Switzerland-Austria-Hungary, Czech-Slovakia/venia, Romania-Moldova, Belarus-Ukraine, Bulgaria-North Macedonia, Albania-Kosovo, Serbia-Montenegro, Croatia-Bosnia, Malta-Cyprus, and Greece-Turkey
8. Caucasian countries (Georgia-Armenia-Azerbaijan)
9. 7 Stan countries
10. Nepal-Bhutan, Mongolia, both Koreas, Japan, and Taiwan

17. Only a few left, there's Gabon-Gambia, Senegal-Sierra Leone, Togo-Benin, Ghana-Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea-Guinea Bissau-Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon-CAR, Liberia, and Burkina Faso

The bit in north eastern bit of South America you couldn't guess was France or more precicely French Guiana. Fully part of the EU and uses Euro as currency. France has a similar piece of real estate east of Madagascar called Réunion, which was the first place in the world to adopt the Euro as it's official currency due to time zones...
Not to mention Saint Pierre & Miquelon.

I was so excited when I got 197/197 for the first time in 2020. I got really into geography while at home, I find the county quiz much easier than flags, mainly because that’s what interests me more. Love the videos
How to remember all the countries of the world:
1. Memorize the song "yakko's world"
2. Remove the countries that no longer exist from the song/or find out their correct names
3. Play the "sporcle countries of the world quiz"
4. Memorize the countries that did not exist in the song (many)
5. Then use yakko's world again to turn all the countries into one song!

i study political geography at the university, and we‘ve started from learning countries-flags-capitals, and now, after three month of studying we‘ve learned location and number of neighbours as well. probably you could consider studying the locations as well, it is fascinating!
When our geography teacher became a dad we hadn't got geography at school, so I learned all of the countries in English and German : )))

You are really good at it. I did this before i watched your video and as far as i remember i got between 140-150. You are far better than me espeacially about islands around Australia and America. I always forget them.
I'm still trying to learn the smaller island nations too, particularly those in the Pacific and around Africa (you keep forgetting some of them are literally there). I had to chuckle though when he struggled with Liberia, those of us Americans who know our history recognize it since it was actually a colony we founded in the 19th Century, for freed slaves who wanted to start a new life back in Africa. They even named their capital Monrovia, in honor of US president James Monroe.
To me guessing countries by location is easier then with flags because i learned them from location and its the best way too and its more important to know the location than the flag imo

This Jetpunk quizz is excellent. The first I did it I had like 90 countries, but I kept doing it and I can now list them all in roughly 14 minutes, so if anyone wanna try believe me you can start from scratch and improve very much :)

I still remember I was a big map fan in my childhood and used to write all countries along with their capitals (without seeing the map). I would get 150+ like when I was 11-12.

It is not easy, its hard to memorize all the islands in oceania and sometimes africa
For me, ir took 10 mins no memorize oceania, 20 for na, europe i already knew, asia i learnt from jacksucksgeograpfy, south america is the easiest, africa i learned in a week

Seems intentional. Palestine is recognised by more countries than Kosovo. Yet isn't accepted in this website. That's why there are only 196, when it should be 197.

wtf is everone saying. Palestine is probably not a country in this map an Kosovo is because it's has not been recognized by the country where the creator of this test lives. Whether something is a country depends on whether it is recognized by the country and if you live in a country that recognizes some countries and don't recognize others that should probably be the truth for you. There is not a single definition for a country other than this
@@onniruusunen9444 That's extremely dumb. Do you know how many countries recognise Taiwan? Yet Taiwan is always accepted in quiz like this. Or are you saying the quiz maker is a citizen of island nations or one of those microstates?
There are many other things considered to define a country. If international recognition is the only requirement, then I want to become China and buy my votes or pressure other states into not recognising Taiwan. Do you see? That's what the US and UK have been doing this entire time in the case of Palestine. Must be easy being one of the five big bullies.

I remember the central American ones with a mnemonic I've made up - it's a clumsy one but it works for me. It starts with M which is cheating as Mexico is not central America but N. America.

I used this same website to memorize all the countries. Took me like 15 tries and half a day to memorize everything
For me guessing flags is harder, I'd get around 150 but no more in flags on first try. Countries would be somewhere around your score cuz I'm not the best with island nations like Seychelles

that's very well done!!!! I have practised too, I've gotten to name all of them expect maybe 5. It's a fun excercise, I have learned so much from that quiz! I find that it's easier to remember names that sound similar - like dominica and dominican republic or gambia and namibia and zambia etc.

I can only remember the names of countries if I know something about that country (which can be as little as that it borders a country I know something more about). Which makes remembering small island states hard because they don’t border other larger countries I know something about. If there is a single island state between two larger states like the Maldives or Seychelles, that also works, but the Pacific island states are hard, same with the Caribbean.
Maybe you should try the minigame of Geography Snap, that'll make a bit of a competition.

I tried this today and I hadnt done it for years and still got 154. shows how good long term memory is
Been playing the Sporcle version of that quiz like once every 6 months since 2012 or so and if I weren't so shit at typing I'd be faster but my record is getting all 197 in 10 minutes. The Sporcle version is better btw, because once you guessed a country it throws its name onto the map ontop of coor coding it, so you don't have to scroll between the names list and the map. Downside, it's less organized but still visible enough.

At one point, a few months ago, I tried. Each time, I would get closer and closer. First time was about 170, then after about 10 tries, I had about 193/197. Finally, only once, I got all 197. I was so proud.
Honestly the time limit is the worst part of this quiz. I was literally typing the whole time and had more countries I could type if I had more time.
Just press the button with a square on it, and that gets rid of the timer but you don't get points
