    Today was my first day working as a special ed assistant and honestly I'm feeling quite overwhelmed since I haven't been given any training. It's helpful to listen to this, thanks!

      Hi Phiddler! I hope things got easier for you. Lauren's videos are great. By the way, I have a complete paraeducator training course on my channel, Language Teachering, so if anyone wants to check it out please feel free. Weeks 9-10-11 deal with some of the issues that Lauren is talking about in this video ☺

    This is great. I have a really difficult student to work with that I adore. However in pandemic world everything is crazy, my team is always out, and I'm brand new to the profession. I've gotten no training so I am going based on special ed family members I love. Thanks for the tips!

    Great plans to work with kids during instructional time

  • @MissShembre
    @MissShembre 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I was never in special ed, but as a kid I hated it when my relatives tried to give me 'time outs' as punishments. (It only happened a couple times, not even for reasons my parents would have used.) The kids might associate 'a break' with a 'timeout', aka, punishment, because they LOOK very similar from the outside and the dialogue is probably very similar (adult halts activity, puts you somewhere else, and then whatever follow up dialogue happens after.) The emphasis probably needs to be on the resting aspect, and being able to return with renewed energy.

      @@courageouscallahan I wish you luck with your interview!!! I had my interview last week and it seemed like it went great, just waiting to see if I get a call this week if I got it and to meet the teachers. I am going to an open house tomorrow for the position incase I don't get a call back from that school. I really hope I get a callback though, it's the school that I really wanted to get in. Otherwise I hope your interview goes great and you get in!

      Could you please tell me how long it was your interview taking ? And what the questions they asking you ?

    • @yourjourney775
      @yourjourney775 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@user-vb5kt6if8q Sure! I want to say my interview was about 20 minutes long (And yes I got a callback and now worked at the school for at least a year now. I love it!) I do recall some questions like:
      If there is a disagreement between you and the teacher, how would you confront the situation? Best answer is when the kids are not there or busy with something else, ask the teacher on the side about it and what's the best thing to do I'm the future
      Give a example of when you dealt with ethnicity and something else i dont recall...? I didn't expect that question and tried my best to think of something, but I did let them know that I did have a hard time thinking of a good example.
      And there were questions based on situations, typically based around behavior. Key point is patience, calmness, and safety for the child and others around.
      And be sure to ask them questions too! I kept my questions revolving around the children I would work with and about the classroom, showing I had interest with the children and wanting to know about them.
      I hope this helps!

      Do you suggest me a website that have a more questions about the interview? Actually I passed the workkeys (ACT exam) for paraprofessional and I worked a few months before the pandemic, then they layoff me, you know on the pandemic everything is crazy. Right now I am looking for a job because I love it , I do my best to preper my self for interviews any time , that why I am asking if there is web about the questions. thank you to respond me .

    Wow. I work as. Parent Mentor at a CPS. I work in the Kindergarten class and there is that one child who loves to disrupts the class argues not harshly with the adults. He is a smart child he can do the work but he loves the most is to run go bother other students just bother other students if there is an activity time where the class is sitting on a beautiful rugs learning math he goes and speak out loud and just not into the lessons. So what happens the teacher sends him back to his seat there he gets angry and if I go and say let’s play a math game or I’ll get some number cards and I’ll work with him he listens to me most of the time like I’ll walk into the room and he is the first one to run to me and gives me a bear hug. I hope I can get him out of this disruption he has in class. Can you give me some other ideas If he keeps up like this he misses out in gym dance computer cause he gets excluded from lots of fun
