i believe she should be acquited because the state didnt prove its case, but this lady either misspoke, or she mislead. it didnt just say "guilty". it was a very straightforward form. "not guilty" was on top, followed by the charges. its simple: if they find not guilty, there would be no reason to mark any other box.

Attorney Alan Jackson was a prosecutor in California years ago and he had a very high conviction rate (he convicted Phil Spector). Now in practice as a defense attorney, he takes on very high profile cases and I believe he has a 96% acquittal rate. He is considered to be one of the top defense lawyers in the United States. He is the lawyer you hire if you are innocent and money doesn't matter. When he was brought onto the defense team last fall, the DA should have reconsidered the case.

To this reporter, just because we saw no evidence to support a Guilty verdict doesn't mean we are "Karen Read supporters." I haven't seen anything I especially like about her. BUT as a resident of the Commonwealth (who couldn't run an errand until the weekend because I have to drive past this circus to get to Rt 1 and shop, if I want to avoid the 128 parking lot) I remain beyond horrified at seeing where my tax dollars have gone to pay for this non-existent State Police investigation. To not look at ALL possibilities & have your mind made up immediately, based on the homeowner being a Cop, is a blue wall I had hoped we had at least partially knocked down.
I think, like many, I would have liked to have seen a FULL investigation and seen where all the evidence led. That said, I can't even imagine how anyone could not have reasonable doubt in this case. Doesn't make me a supporter, simply a local horrified at how this has been handled.

A jury's request for a SERT report indicates its relevance and materiality, excluding it may prejudice the defendant's right to a fair trial (Commonwealth v. Williams, 475 Mass. 258, 265 (2016)
If the SERT report contains hearsay, the judge can simply redact the hearsay portions of the report. - (Commonwealth v. Torres, 453 Mass. 553, 561 (2009)
Excluding the entire report instead of redacting the hearsay statements may be an abuse of discretion (Commonwealth v. Walker, 464 Mass. 271, 277 (2013)
If the SERT report doesn't exist, but she still allowed other evidence that was based on that report (testimony, documents photographs) the judge essentially admitted that the evidence presented was unverified and potentially unreliable.

I agree on the first part. It is seriously f'd up.
However, on the second part, there is no chance that Read hit O'Keefe with her car. It is far, far, far more likely that she pulled out a baseball bat and whanged him (not that there is any evidence of it, but at least there isn't evidence against it).
Among the many, many, many screw ups by the police: their entire analysis of the accident from the car data, where the whole 24 MPH in reverse came from, was actually data from when they loaded the car onto the flatbed after impound. I'd assume that there aren't any other logs of high acceleration reverses, otherwise, the trooper would have looked into it and realized his mistake. So, at best, we are looking at a low speed collision. A low speed collision that simultaneously left no bruising, but also "projected" him 30 feet.

Thought that it was such a slam dunk she appears to be getting a little nervous im praying for justice for john and his f?friends and especially for the kids that already have been through so much I pray that it is guilty of Manslaughter I think even her defense knows that she is going to be found guilty of 👨 that is why they threw such a fit on he jury instructions on the Manslaughter charge shame on Karen turtle boy her attorneys for stirred up all of this chaos and blaming all of johns friends of murder that town will never be the same because of them just sickening I can only imagine Karen sitting in a jail cell eating her food in the same place that the toilet is entitled narcissist she deserves everything she gets the jury shot of been sequestered I can only imagine the pressure that they feel from all of this just what Karen ordered I just hope if the jury comes back guilty that her fans don't burn down the town maybe her lawyers will stick around to help put out the fire that they created

I'm shocked at how backward the court in Dedham is. Some of their cops lack the appropriate education to work in the public sector. I don't mean to sound green, but I really thought the court there would be as advanced as New York. I mean, states like New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts have some of our most prestigious universities, so I expect to see what I observed in the Karen Read trial in Mississippi. I'm not disrespecting the South, but they do lag compared to the Northeast and California.

Sue O’Connell is a joke. Jackson so has a point about the verdict form. And yes he probably should come and fix up the entire justice system because clearly in this case, it’s not working.

She’s Not guilty. I saw the trial. Lead investigator insulting the defendant before doing his investigation, other possible implicated people were not investigated because they were the investigators friends. Erased texts, phone calls, getting rid of dogs and discarded witnesses phones with info about the case, plus scientific evidence that the victim wasn’t dead about a car crash but presented dog bites, meeting between witnesses, etc, etc… shows the corruption in this case. Even the judge didn’t let some important info to get through. The last piece… there wasn’t a box to check “not guilty”. Poor Karen Read I’m happy that this case was televised
