- The Circuit Riding Preacher was filmed at the New Beaverdam Primitive Baptist Church in Kinston, North Carolina. This song and video could not have been done without the help of my many friends. I am truly a blessed man and I am lucky to have had the opportunity to sing this wonderful old hymn with so many talented people. May God bless you as he has me. Ed Terry

My sister Methodist Choir did this song with horses hoofs sounds during this song. Best rendition of this song I have heard, you could picture him riding along in your mind's eye.
This is a "Precious Memory"! My Daddy was a "Methodist Circuit Riding Preacher"! He did not ride a horse but when he started preaching they were still called "Circuit Preachers/Pastors". With my sweet Mama and his children as we came along (5 of us) from the 1940's to the 1970's he served several Methodist Circuits. His "circuits" over the years ranged from 1 to 5 churches. We as a family sang this song at revivals and homecomings. So glad to find this video and song on you tube. Thank you!

My dad was born in a log house built by his grandfather. I heard him talk of the circuit rider coming to preach at the church where his father was a deacon. They would invite the preacher to stay with them. My dad did not like it because he was a little boy and had to give up his bed to the preacher !
I heard that one time my grandpa stood at the door to the church with his shotgun
to keep out some folk who were trying to take over the church.

I appreciate getting credit for writing this famous old gospel song, but I only added a couple verses not used here! But here they are. I give them to you. I think I wrote 3,4 and 5 down below, but really cant remember - trichinosis has set in from disobeying the commandment against pig and snail-eating back when i was on the circuit-riding trail.
