    Thanks to all who are commenting other songs, I will say that I'll also accept songs similar to Cardiacs-adjacent bands as I have a strong one for NSRO's Morpheus Miracle Maker for a potential '& Affectionate Friends' version down the line as well.

    the intro to Fiery Gun Hand is a clear homage to XTC's Wake Up

      Phil judd era Split Enz are so good. Their later stuff was also great but in a different way.

    Everyone points out R.E.S as being a Residents lift from The Act of Being Polite, but A Little Man and a House is a dead ringer for The Residents and Renaldo and the Loaf's The Shoe Salesman (especially the live version from the Demons Dance Alone tour).

  • @TinSoldierMan
    @TinSoldierMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    - "R.E.S." riff Is basically "Act of Being Polite" by Residents (that's what R.E.S seems to stand for: RESidents).
    - "Wireless" = "Lauft..." by Faust. And "Spinney", to me, is inspired by "It's a Bit of a Pain" by Faust, which is in the same Faust album.

    • @LoganPosthumous
      @LoganPosthumous  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'd heard that RES was probably named after The Residents but not that there was a musical parallel with them too, I'll check these out

    I would not be surprised if Tim was inspired by In Heaven, considering how lynchian Seaside Treats feels

    I believe that Blur explicitly cited Cardiacs as one of their influences

    • @LoganPosthumous
      @LoganPosthumous  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Indeed, they tend to be one of the main examples for bands that were inspired by Cardiacs whenever it comes up lol

    • @dangatang0
      @dangatang0 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And yet you see not a whiff of that in their music

    • @honved1
      @honved1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dangatang0I think Grahams guitar style shows a fair bit of Cardiacs influence. Especially on “Modern life” and park life. Blur also like a big extended outro a la Big Ship. Take resigned from modern life for example. And on the other side, “Bellyeye” from “sing to god” starts with a guitar part that sounds like Hendrix playing a Coxon style riff. The middle 8 (if they exist in cardiacs songs) has a really catchy poppy melody that is reminiscent of Blur.

    Here’s some other examples that have come up:
    Cross Wires by XTC (eat it up worms hero)
    Awaken by Yes (jitterbug)
    Three Friends by Gentle Giant (everso)
    Entry of the Gladiators by Julius Fulcik (all his geese are swans)

    "If you have any examples, please leave them in a comment. I may make a sequel to this video if I get enough."
    Charmless Man by Blur has the Cardiacs cadence in it (A C#m F# repeated during the verse). (If you don't know what the Cardiacs cadence is, watch the Tantacrul video)
    Wild Thing by The Troggs inspired Joining The Plankton. (And we know Tim was really familiar with the song because he stole lyrics from it for It's A Lovely Day)
    Fiery Gun Hand's intro sounds a lot like the intro of Wake Up by XTC (two guitars hard panned left and right, each playing three notes of a dominant seventh chord in a polyrhythmic/polymetric pattern).
    There's loads more examples I'm sure.

    ALSO WTF I'VE NEVER HEARD OF SPLIT ENZ BUT SEEING THE VIDEO COMPARISON I FEEL A LITTLE BETRAYED- SO THAT'S WHERE TIM GOT THE IDEA?

    • @RaBob
      @RaBob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      no. there was Devo too. But all of that is just OUR point of view. Tim Smith likely got the idea from watching that broken Salvation Army band playing for folks to throw coin donations into the bucket out in the snow outside of that shop with the toy electric trains in Kingston shortly before Christmas 1966.

    Gotta mention: Elements from the middle bridge on "Eating in bed" (past the second reffrain, just after "catch this" bit) may have given inspiration to parts of the song "Awkward as a Drunk" by "Major Parkinson" (the part starting about half a minute into the song).
    That being said, the people in Major Parkinson doesn't exactly hide the fact that they are huge Cardiacs-fans.

      This was a tricky one lol, everyone in the server knew there was one Lemon Demon one but couldn't remember what part, one person has heard one track be note-for-note with a Cardiacs track but I had convinced myself that Loosefish was close enough to Eventuality to fit it because that was the only real lead I ended up with
