  • Spooky visit to an old abandoned house. This was the site of a plantation that had over 100 slaves. There is not a lot left of the creepy building, but it was a very interesting place to visit.

Plantation house so different from our 1850s farm house in WV. Brick and mortar rather than plank frame. Subsistence farm rather than slave powered plantation. Fascinating contrasts...

I can only imagine what that house must have looked like in the day. Very sad to see a piece of history fall apart from neglect. Still interesting even in the state it's in. Thanks for showing it.

I love your videos cause it's more or less a history lesson in a video. I do wish the state would make some of these old houses into a museum and rebuild the plantation houses up for viewing. Better than letting it turn into a dump.

you made the comment about the plaster on the outside of the house. My father was touring George Washington's home a few years ago and there were some crews doing maintenance on the hose. They were chipping off the plaster/white wash on the out side of the house so my dad asked them what they were doing. apparently the plaster can be added/repainted for quite a few years before it needs to be removed then reapplied. They told my dad the last time this was done was ~150 years ago, so my dad asked for a piece and they let him have it. The piece of plaster is about the size of a mans palm and a little over 1/4 in thick. Its a pretty cool piece of history.

I'm dumb, now that I look closely at it, it's a crack in the wall, I'm a retired carpenter and the plaster work that you talked about is a lost art. they could put that on better than drywall and mud that they use today, and like you could see it will last a long time, there are still a hand full that still can do good plaster work, if you need one it's a long wait and have a big wallet for them, at least around here (Cumberland MD.) keep the video's coming and happy hunting

I know it would be a huge endeavour, but it would be great if the National Historical Society could clean all those vines from there, and restore that old house, since it was built in the 1700's. It also would be great if they could use what's already there, such as the brick and the stair step tops. I'm a woodworker and there is a way of restoring old wood like that.
