  • Engineers design a bicycle on AutoCAD software at a factory of Atlas Cycles in Gurgaon, India. A worker dips a wheel in a solution in order to clean it and hangs it on the assembly line.
Workers dip cycle body, crank in a salt solution for a rust proof coating. They cut extra edges of the mud-guard and paint them partially in white.
Atlas is one of the top bicycle producing companies in the world, with a capacity to produce 4 million bicycles per year. Today, Atlas has earned not only brand loyalty but also millions of satisfied customers in India and abroad.
Atlas, Sahibabad has a huge manufacturing facility located at Sahibabad. It has a production line capable of producing more than 4 million cycles per annum. In a very short span of time, Atlas, Sahibabad has developed its production unit into a hi-tech, state of the art facility with all the latest machine and instruments essential for producing sophisticated and high-quality bicycles. Automated hi-technology machines and state-of-the-art infrastructure ensures precision engineering, optimum application of manpower, and obtaining the value of time. Accuracy is maintained at the decimal level.

@@Hillary Clintub I thought the technique was interesting because I never saw it before and it seemed to get a good result and shape of the area being painted ( looked like a thick porcelain type of paint). I am sure there are many ways of accomplishing the same result, that method was so simple it was almost genius. I am not sure if that factory even had electric lol

I'm willing to bet, if you electrify these Goldlines with a battery, and keep the traditional paint and design (absolutely keep the old details) you would sell millions. (I would allow solid cranks and no cotterpins, but the look must be the same, not destroyed like Enfield)

There is another billion people to take ones place. And as long as we can get inexpensive products we don't give a shit. Boycotting doesn't do a damn thing. At most it might close a factory but that just takes food from their mouthes and somebody else gets their job. Its how things are. Our cheap bike still feeds them and they are thankful.

  • @weldmachine

When you look at the standards that they need to work in most would be discussed to some point.
But if you turn the clock back in time you would quickly see what we consider developed countries like ours in the west doing things the exact same way.
Back when our parents and grandparents worked in the exactly the same factories.
I still remember when i was young my uncle was happy when he got himself a job working at the local Ford Factory.
Ford was always well known for paying well but they expected you to work .
And the working conditions were not so much different to what you see here.

They are poor people with families to feed and no education. There is no ladder for them to climb, there is no advancement, there is no suggestion box. Many have only the cloths on their backs. There is no union there is no OSHA, there is no cafeteria. They earn a pittance by the sweat of their brow. You would have to fight them hard to take their job from them. A lot of these comments seem to be coming from pampered people. If you have ever done work like construction, painting, auto mechanics, plumbing then you would know that you and your clothes get filthy all day long. Your clothes look like rags after a few months, your nails are almost always dirty, you sweat, you stink, and all that doesn't matter because you have a job to do and you do it. These bikes look well made and the workers take pride in their product. They are doing the kind of work that our great grandfathers did in America to build our nation and give all these modern day snow flakes the leisure and wealth to sit around playing video games all day. When America squanders the advances given to us by the hard workers of the past we will have to work just as hard as these people to catch up again.

No eye protection when using machines, heat treat or in prime and paint. The video showed only one person wearing safety glasses
    No hearing protection.
No hand protection when handling chemicals (prime and paint)
    No guards on the machines.
No shields in the heat treat area.
Hot was allowed to splatter on the wall in heat treat.
No respiratory protection in prime and paint. A rag wrapped around the head is NOT respiratory protection.
Flip flops are not appropriate footwear in a manufacturing plant and no one should ever be allowed to work barefoot.
    Atlas bicycles should be avoided.

The selling price is 30$ and buyer can use these for 30 years without issues.Again th workers are getting a living and they are happy with what they are getting. What is your problem. Keep all thos $hit with your own country. You have all the rules and now how corona is spreading there? So rules never make things safe.

@@carsreview7729 Feel better about writing curse words childishly to denigrate someone else's opinions? India will not improve unless you learn to take constructive criticism and improve accordingly. You're equating industrial safety with the spread of Covid - lease enlighten us about that logic. Because by that logic Covid must not have spread in India. And yes - rules do make things safe - as long as they are enforced.

Lots of westerners commenting on PPE but I think this is a old video certainly not shot in last 5 years ro so. More over HSE concerns drove American manufacturing to China, Mexico etc. Some people do not see.

No safety gear, tattered clothing, direct skin-to-chemical contact. If you are injured, you will most likely get fired. And if you go to the hospital, you have to pay first for service. That applies even if you are dying. There is no medical insurance. There is no accountability. If you complain, you get fired. The government has regulations but does not enforce anything unless the case makes national headlines. And most bureaucrats can be bribed. The workers make a pittance as can be seen from the clothing. Welcome to 21st century India: Incredible India!

I was surprised to see that none of the workers were in uniform. Company should provide them uniforms. Also only few of them had handgloves other were working without safety gadgets or apparels.
