    What seeds would you add to the manure if it were being put on hayfields that will get baled to feed sheep? We only have sheep, no goats. We are in New Hampshire.
    Great video, love your channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

      Usually clover. We will add some oats in the spring as well, the oats will only live until first cutting but it does add tonnage.

    So I am going to try doing goats this winter in a pen and rotating bales in a 16ft by 100 ft area probably. that way i can manage to constrict them push them down the lane 20 to 30 ft at a time if i do it right. that is a nice newish looking manure spreader right there. i may just wheel barrel and spread manually this year on a small few acre area. I also am probably gonna drop Lime soon as i get back out to the farm and have the funds to do so. Also another project would be to set my lane for spring for a garden/green fertilizer post harvest.
    Actually have a lane of cardboard and fertilizer already done from last year. trying to get a mix of worms coming up doing their thing and having a super nutrient rich garden to do 2 to 3 rows of corn with the side by a hill growing squash/cucumber/vine types to go down that hill. It will be very intriguing if i can get the right kind of set up to get some seasonal vegetables out of colorado weather. not to mention the possibility of my herd hopefully multiplying and start getting some meat goats to self butcher etc.

    Another awesome video! Now if you where to use a rotating bin would that help speed up the process?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sure it would speed up the process. We are dealing with such a large amount of manure this wouldn’t be feasible. We do flip the pile multiple times a year and this helps create a similar result. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to leave us a message!

  • @lorrainepelser6549
    @lorrainepelser6549 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Tim can you use all the manure of the sheep? Even the ones after they have been drenched for worms or should you only use the healthy ones? Or does the worms die during the process after drench and be save to use then as fertiliser on your fields?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Using a manure spreader on the fields allows it to be spread in a very thin layer. We like to spread our manure and with the help of sunlight exposure, it kills a lot of things. We also let our manure rest in piles for 6 months or longer which ensures any worms will be dead.

    I read that sheep manure is on the colder side (as in, not hot like cow or horse) and can be used immediately?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is correct. Sheep manure tends not to be as hot as other manures. We spread ours on our field immediately.

    How long before you let animals on it?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello and thanks for watching our videos. This is a complicated question. Depending on the consistency of the manure/level of composting and what your goals are. If using a manure spreader, you should be able to get by with 6-8 weeks post spreading. One of the benefits of the spreader is its ability to keep the manure very thin. In the case you are trying to over-seed, you will want to consider keeping them off of it for a few months to allow some growth for consumption. Remember, the oats are not mean to become a permanent addition to the pasture, it is simply filler. When we truly over-seed a field for permanent usage with grasses, etc. we won’t allow the animals to graze it that year. Grazing new growth generally leads to the young plants being destroyed/tore out by their young roots.

      @@LinessaFarms Hi Tim, Love your stuff, We have about 70 head of dorper's on10.5 acres , TOOOO many! but 40 ewes and a couple rams is our standard load. I'm looking at an ABI spreader right now from all the bails this winter we went through (north central Texas was dry this year!) my question is why keep them off the fertilized field for 6-8 weeks? is it fear of listeria or just to help germination and growth? Can I spread pee hay landscape raked bedding on pasture immediately or will this make them sick? - We basically have 3 pastures we rotate them through (occasionally a 4th being the homestead) so it will be hard to keep them off long!

      Thanks for watching our videos, Jon. It seems our area still gets lots of tilling and we don’t know why. We would love to see more cover crop usage and no till drilling but it just isn’t happening. We especially dislike when our neighbors till since we get run-off from their property. Good eye by the way! If we can help your sheep or goat operation, please don’t hesitate to ask.
