It's been nearly 20 years since I have been to a movie theater. When I was young, it was a fun social activity. Now, I prefer to watch everything in the comfort of my residence. Captions, bluetooth headphones ... streaming on my own schedule. 🤟
With VR-glasses you could position the text just in front of the person speaking. I wonder if that is possible with transparent AR-glasses as well, or if the text would become blury when you focus several meters in front of the glasses. Text glasses is a cool idea, and hopefully there will be a product that solves it in a good way at an affordable price not to far into the future. Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Rikki!
I saw a video about how some people don't like them because even though it's helping deaf people understand the hearing person's words but it's not helping converse with hearing people. The deaf person will still have to type or write something to get their part of the conversation across. So it's not really helping, it's just putting the problem back into the deaf person's hand. So like anything, it's really up to the individual person if they want to use it or not. The cost is for sure not accessible 😢
I make that argument for the sign language gloves, for sure, and that fits here too, but for the glasses, you can use them for so much more! You can go out to watch movies at the cinema with them, etc.
Yeah, it's one of the main reasons why a lot of people like them and I get why. Also, they would be useful for me in communication since I'm mostly oral when I'm out and about! But the price... and the caption placement would hurt my eyes lol
Thanks for your video! We can get a pair of Inmo Go glasses from Aliexpress for less than $400. Or we can get Even reality G1 for $600. Hearview if definitely ripping people off.
The gifting versus payment loophole in America has always been so weird to me. In a lot of countries, if you get "gifted" a $1000 thing that is treated as equivalent to a $1000 payment. Not least because you could sell it if you really needed to, but also just because now you have the cool thing and you didn't have to pay $1000 for it. (Obviously you can substitute any figure, but yeah.) Not surprised that this is a "white label" (the term used in appliances, not saying you're wrong when it comes to cosmetics!) device though. The design, that generic chunkiness, with no flairs or real art to it... just screams "OEM shopped the device round to anyone and everyone". Like, Raycon headphones are also available for often half (or even a tenth) the price on AliExpress too.
That’s quite expensive even to someone with a good paying job! Especially in the beginning stages of this technology, $1700 I don’t want to risk it. I do wish they had sent you a pair, I trust and like your opinions.
I'm skeptical on the glasses for a lot of things. But one of my main concerns are those videos from deaf people getting them. The ones I have seen, their reactions are so fake and forced and not genuine at all. The very first video I saw, I thought it was a joke. Since hearing people are always going on about getting this or getting that so we don't have to accommodate you, etc. The reaction was so fake, that I thought the girl was using random cheap glasses from a store and pretending there were captions on the lens. But when videos started popping and kept increasing about these glasses, that's when I realized they were legit. At least, real. But how good they are and how much people like them I don't know. I haven't seen a genuine reaction to them yet. That sucks on the tear in the mold. I had the real skinny tubes for my HAs because my ears are small and my thick hair and glasses would push my HAs right off with the regular tubes. The only con with those skinny tubes was that they got bent very easily. I could get brand new ones, go to put them on as ever gently as I could and...bent. When it got bent, it blocked the sound from going through. That was frustrating. Now I'm just dealing with my BAHAS and the joys and frustrations that come from bone conduction HAs and the headband.
I imagine that the hearview glasses' captions timing would be similar to live transcribe, a few mini seconds behind. Having glasses for captions might be nice, not having to hold a phone, but not $2,000 nice. Plus I already wear glasses, making them with prescriptions cost extra. As far as communication, I would guess they might be better for deaf and hh people that communicate verbally. Hard pass, at least for now.
They would be great for me as I'm newly deaf and communicate through speech as normal and I don't know much sign language yet but I can see how they won't work as well for others. As for live transcribe it seems to be maximum 35% accurate ..when it picks up speech at all. I would not want these glasses if they are as inaccurate as that 😅 I'm suspicious of the "95% accuracy" rate they claim. i also would mostly need them for work but I was working in a very noisy place and constant background noise. I doubt.they would.be useful in that environment anyway, unfortunately, but if they are as accurate as they say and pick up/transcribe all speech being said in the normal social day to day like in the home, car, quieter restaurants, outside, etc, I would definitely get a pair.

Temu is mostly trashy tripe.

@rikkipoynter that's a great point, I totally see how it would have more uses like you listed. ❤️

This is why marketing industry right now is evil (worked in, with, and around for 20+ years).
Hi Rikki,
I like your video and it may not work for everyone but might work for some people

A little duct tape should take care of the ear mold, Rikki.
I just have a samsung phone with live transcribe.
Potentially lol
