He stresses the importance of having a “more refined and calibrated view on both sides of this divide”. The former Australian prime minister speaks to CNA on the sidelines of the Milken Institute’s Global Conference in Los Angeles on navigating the delicate balance of international ties, and cultural nuances between the East and the West. Well said. We've reached the point where almost everything which comes out of Kevin Rudd's mouth is western propaganda with no basis in fact. If anyone bothers to read books on Marxism or Leninism, they'd quickly realize that China is not a "Marxist-Leninist" state. If they bothered to read Chinese diplomat statements and compare them with western statements, they'd quickly realize that "Wolf Warrior Diplomacy" was Chinese diplomats standing up for China and being nowhere near as offensive or childish as western diplomats are when discussing Chinese issues. Also, a simple reading of UNCLOS shows that the Australian military had no business in China's EEZ, and their mission was obviously not a "U.N. operation", as the U.N. had not given them a mandate to conduct any operations around North Korea.

In the past, when China export cheap consumer goods to the West, why don't the west say' over capacity '. Now, China with their own effort, finally were able to export high value products to the west and the west complain that China high value products are a threat as they were much sought after by their citizens. Didn't the west always mentioned free trade? Now the west and US subsidised their high valued industry and this is is a fact. But strangely, they are accusing China of doing the same thing. This kind of ugly tactics is too common nowadays but they assume the viewers are too(not clever ) to see through the plot. China is also to be blamed. This country rarely defends herself even though it has done nothing wrong. When the West set up debt trap themselves to the developing world but accuse China of debt trapping the world through their obor, China just keep silent. No wonder every wolf and hyena is tempting to get near u.

So Rudd believes China is at fault for everything.
First no recognition that China’s military growth has always been a strategic response to US actions.
Like most who claim expertise on China, they only see China through the ideals they hold, never from the reality of China.
You always know when the expert is all bs, they waffle about Rules based order, Values, Democracy and China is always at fault.
I’m curious, where exactly in the Yellow Sea was the Australian ship and why the need to use a Helicopter, so close to Chinese waters, think Australia is being a bit lite on the facts.

An insightful interview yet with a good sense of humour. Reading those in the comment section you realised how much Kevin's well articulated facts has impacted those pro-CCP commenters. These same group of commenters are probably also the ones who highly praised Kevin during his tenure as PM of Australia, when he led a much friendlier approach at times when China was less toxic. Some would argue that Kevin's knowledge on Chinese politic is merely skin deep, ignoring that he reads the official CCP Political manifesto in its original Han form, which often deliberately would omit and cunningly twist harsh wordings to hide its intent when selectively release in English. Kevin is well versed in Chinese thinking and is an asset among the Western study of China's mind. As a Singaporean Chinese who read profoundly in Chinese literature, history and struggle, I highly recommended Kevin Rudd for anything related to Chinese politic.

@@katong1953 Point out what I don't know or maybe you're the one that doesn't know. For your reference or rather context, I'm referring to Xi Jinping as a Mao 2.0 and being more to the left than his last two predecessors. Also, I myself as a communist see this well. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing anyway, but rather a good thing, and trajectory China is going more towards is pretty good. Yes, China has always been red, but there's also been red revival all over China (also coupled with the tech wars and China forcing to develop more of its own industry, and being forced to be more self-sufficient as well).
