I am a lawyer in Brazil and first of all, a Christian. For example, because of my faith, I decline any legal case involving divorce since God hates divorce (even though I recognize if it involves adultery, it is not unlawful). I also had to have my own office and not join in with colleagues because, many times, I would have to lie with them in the defense of our cases. So I work by myself, on my own. Some "christians" from my church even mocked me for acting like this. When I told them "I am a Christian above being a lawyer" they were in shock. Some of them ridiculed me and thought I was being too meticulous in my faith.
It is because of episodes like this that reminds me why I will continue my faithful giving to this God honoring ministry! Just so helpful and practical to understand how to live in this world, and what God really expects. My prayer for me is Hebrews 5:14 to do this myself, because when I listen to how Dr. Piper explains things and use other practical examples, it is so easy for me to answer these life questions….I continually thank God for leading me to this ministry, so grateful! Hebrews 5: 14 (ESV) “But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”
This is a difficult and complex topic. Anything that is manufactured or built will be used for sin in some ways, but there are closer and more remote degrees of participating in this sin. For example, if you are an architect and you are offered the chance to design an abortion clinic, surely that can't be God's will. But if you work in a factory that makes paint, knowing that it will be used in all sorts of buildings, possibly including abortion clinics, I would say that it isn't a sin to have that job. God knows that we live in this sinful world, and it is impossible for us to untangle ourselves from all misuses of things. The same principle applies to selling things. I would say that if someone works, for example, in a porn shop, where everything that is sold is sinful, that can't be God's will. But if someone works in a shop where the vast majority of things are OK with only a few immoral things included, I don't think it would usually be a sin to do that.
Also helpful is A Call to Separation by A.W. Pink “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Cor. 6:14-18) This passage gives utterance to a Divine exhortation for those belonging to Christ to hold aloof from all intimate associations with the Ungodly.
Helpful teaching from John Piper. However, I don't think his point about 1 Cor 10:27-28 is quite right. Here is the text: 'If any of the unbelievers invites you over and you want to go, eat everything that is set before you, without raising questions for the sake of conscience. But if someone says to you, “This is food from a sacrifice,” do not eat it, out of consideration for the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience.' (CSB) What Piper omitted to mention was the next verse, v. 29, which says: 'I do not mean your own conscience, but the other person’s. For why is my freedom judged by another person’s conscience?' (CSB) Verse 29 makes it clear that Paul's instruction to the Corinthians not to eat if they find out that food came from a sacrifice was not about their own consciences but about the consciences of unbelievers who witness what the Christians do. Paul is implying that in and of itself there would be nothing wrong with eating. Of course, a Christian's own conscience and how much they know about a moral situation is a very relevant issue. My point is just that 1 Cor 10:27-28 is talking about a different issue.
Jesus😊1st❤ is the King of kings and Lord of lords to me in Christ( Revelation 19:16😊❤ ) anyways so that's what it counts in Christ. Heaven😊❤ is our home in Christ😊❤ Jesus 😊1st❤ in Christ.
I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to do it anyway to then be a witness to the people there who would otherwise not have a way to be reached with the message of Christ.
I remember my pastor putting me under condemnation for having to work on Sundays because I was working at a convenient market that sold beer and cigarettes BUT yet he would stop every Sunday on his way to church to get his coffee and donuts. BUT he was always happy when I paid my tithes.

Sounds like you might want to find a new church.

Lol the video title kind of sanitizes the question that was asked.
That was very helpful and thoughtful

You made the right decision. God bless you.
Well done you. I would agree with your decision there.

Change your church.
Weak doctrine allows pastors to make poor choices.
