OUR STORY:
John and Kristina purchased a 50ft Jeanneau Sun Odyssey with just a few weeks sailing experience. They set sail from Melbourne and travelled up the East Coast of Australia to the Great Barrier Reef as part of their Australian Sailing Series with dreams of one day sailing the world.

Hey guys happy to see your smiling face again & of course the pilots face on John with short hair & serious look. However that is all going to change soon as you base yourselves out of Adelaide where you could ride a push bike in peak hour traffic & not be alarmed. Anyway you have had heaps of fun & trials learning to sail which will equip you well into the future on I think you mentioned a catamaran next. You cunning people as you ar already on your way to your next destination so enjoy this month away till you have to get back to Adelaide & more editing which you do very well might I add. Where you are headed will be a far different climate to what is happening in Adelaide so hopefully you will escape the worst of winter. You both look well & happy & excited at whatt lies ahead. Have fun sailing the Med I think you'll love it 🙂 if you have the time when you sail Spain be sure to check out Valencia (we live there), it's an awesome city with really cool places (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciéncies, Turia park, and we have the Holy Grail 🤷♂️😀) and a big port 🙂

Put a tail of rope with light sinker/weight under the drone, catch that & run hand up to the leg. Hope ur Lagoon has good bulkheads. I don't think "stickers" last very long on mooring balls

Hey lovelies! It's funny as I was listening to you talk about returning to Adelaide where you grew up and met... It made me think... Life has a really weird way of circling you back to home towns. Not in a bad way but just in a weird way... Like you'd never consciously plan it but sometimes life has a bizarre behaviour of leading you back... What a trip! Anyways I'm rambling here so get yourselves into Europe soon... Its finally warming up ❤️
Hey Robert! I know right, we would have never guessed in a Million years we would go back to Adelaide, yet after being away for 15 years it strangely still feels like coming “home”. We’re grateful to be able to see more of our families who are still living in Adelaide and the opportunity basing ourselves there will brings to being able to travel and keep the adventures going. ☺️

@@KristinasTravels yes. Long time ago. In the 90s. Beautiful place. Overdue for a return. Love to go to lefkada and some other places in the Adriatic that I haven’t been. Going to Bali /Dubai/ turkey in July. Probably have john as our pilot on Jetstar

We do a bit of everything in the upcoming series but mostly land/island based travel, we love Greece and the uniqueness of its different island regions 😍
Great to hear you are comming to the Med, Barcelona is such a beautifull spot, will you be there during summer time, in Ibiza? This will be one big party 🎉 with fantastic city’s and culture! Don’t forget to go to Sardinia, siscilian volcanic islands and Elba. You can also cruise along the Amalfy coastline and Napels…
So many great spots you mentioned Kris! We will be doing our best to tick as many of them off as possible! But probably be skipping Ibiza this time around! Can’t wait! What’s your favourite must see destination out of those?
That's a great question Kristina, but difficult to answer :-) When it comes to sailing locations in the Mediterranean Sea, there are manny great spots out there . Each place has its own unique charm and attractions, making it a bit challenging to pick just one as the ultimate favorite. However, if I had to choose, my recommendation would be Sardinia, specifically the area around the Maddalena Islands.
An evening anchored at Isola Tavolara, with dinner at Tonino Re di Tavolara, is truly an experience to remember. The restaurant owner claims to be the king of the island, and reaching the restaurant can only be done by boat. Anchoring in front of the bay and enjoying an evening dinner with fellow sailors is quite special. Another remarkable place in the region is Budelli, although it can get quite busy during peak seasons. But honestly, we don't mind the crowds as it adds to the lively Mediterranean summer atmosphere, with everyone enjoying their time on the water. from Madelena archipel you can easly sail to corsica Bonafaciio in less then a day. Bonafaccio is a historic town build on sea kliffs, pretty spectacular view as you approach from Sardinia.
Naples and the Amalfi Coast are a very close second on our list. It's a fantastic place that offers a great mix of activities both on and off the water. You can enjoygreat food, explore the rich italian culture and historical sites (Pompeii), and visit picturesque villages perched on rocky cliffs like Positano. if you plan to stay on land, renting a Vespa scooter is a great way to get around in the real italian way.
However, i can't forget to mention other wonderful options such as sailing in the Aegean Sea in Greece, exploring the islands around Dubrovnik in Croatia, or even spending a few days in Nice, cannes and Monaco France. Each of these places has left us with beautiful memories and lost of memorable evenings.
And of course, VENICE!! It's a must-visit destination with its unique charm, beautiful canals, and rich history.
Yep, the Mediterranean Sea remains our favorite destination on the planet... diverse range of cultures, delicious food, calm waters, and an abundance of islands, cities and ports to explore. We love to be on the water during the day, but beiing in town during the evening and having dinner & dancing in local pubs is just topping it off. I hope this helps you in your search for the perfect sailing location in the Mediterranean!

Whilst the lagoons have a lot of space like an apartment, they have poor sailing performance. In a light breeze you have to motor, a whole lot of noise, smell, vibration and fuel cost. Sailing in light breezes is the best most relaxing and satisfying sailing, if you ever buy a catamaran I hope you buy a performance cat. The lagoons are also poorly made with weak bulkheads.
