I was there at the front of this actual concert. 16 years old and absolutely loved it. Washington DC's finest ever, totally amazing to experience.
I took my 12 inch single of don’t touch that stereo to Germany in 83 and use to rap to it at the club off base in friedberg Germany. The lady who owned it made me a regular in their. Good times in the military turning a lot of people on to go go music. DC go go forever!!!
I saw them at Glastonbury the same year. Best band of the whole festival.
Trouble would make you move parts of your body you didn't know existed nothing like a live Go-Go concert i am so glad this what I grew up with in DC in the 70's and 80's
I was there 🙏 haven’t forgotten. Apart from Santana , this was the greatest gig I ever saw 🕺🏽
"live in London" is the best live album ever recorded bar none (including James Brown at the Apollo)
Whoah! I was there. Can't believe this video exists.
The Brixton Academy show was my first big show at 15 and despite how long ago it was this show has got it all flooding back. Definitely changed me a bit. That and the Metamorphosis night with De La Soul, Soul II Soul, Adeva and Monie Love. That was 88. The Academy ruled in those days
I saw them at the Academy too. I had to come all the way from America to London to see Trouble Funk. They never caught on in the USA outside of Washington DC.
I can hear those whistles. When I got there everyone had whistles. Prepared to funk!!
What a gem.....thank you for uploading...
Heel yeah! DC was on fire back then! 🔥
Yep. Was there too. Incredible show... from start to finish
Great funk concert.. Greatest Trouble Funk.. NR 1 for go go funk music✌️💪💪💪👌🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷
I remember back in the day when they were practicing on a balcony on Stanton Rd and now 👀 look
pure joy!
What a show! Thanks
fuckin' HELL. I've got all four parts of this on bootleg tape, but never knew there was a vid. It's one of their hardest shows! Would die for Brixton Academy, 24/10/87 - I was there!
Can't beat that Go- Go jam!
there used to be a version of don't touch this stereo from this show that was louder and better quality on youtube but i can't find it anymore.
it was a free 12" with some of the later versions of Live in London I "THINK" it's taken from the live in Japan Video of 1988. The guitarist breaks into "jingle bells" part way through so must have been December of 88 :-)
DEES BOYS JUST DROPPED DA BOMB ON LONDON.
Dito!
Every ticket holder got their money's worth that night!
I just saw Trouble Funk last year at RFK Stadium at the Foo Fighters anniversary and if anybody wonders they STILL make that train move! Some day someone will tell me why Trouble Funk/Redds and the Boys/Chuck didn't make it nationwide like they should have.....and by the way, Big Tony is still there in charge!
I figure that nationwide is commercially watered, while home is real music that is by the real people, for the real people. Trouble played much differently at home, it was more tribal :-)
Trouble Funk, Chuck Brown, Redds
And the Boys, Rare Essence, and many other GoGo bands should have had greater appeal based on their talent and abilities. I’m from DC and have been a GoGo fanatic all my life and a collector of recordings since the 80’s. In my humble opinion, the factors that prevented GoGo from expanding outside of DC are threefold: Studio recordings don’t have the same energy and raw funk that live shows do. Also, the call and response that is prevalent in live GoGo shows cannot take place over the radio and radio is needed for broad appeal. Finally, GoGo shows are hours long with no breaks which is why Chuck Brown, creator of GoGo, called it “GoGo” - the band just kept going. I truly wish more people could experience the powerful music that I’ve known my whole life here in DC.

@@MiltonDelaney If I ever met you in person I would give you the long and short of how " GOGO " got started. It's not how people have been led to believe. Chuck came late to the game.
GOGO should have followed the marketing blueprint of Reggae, added more vocal hooks, and wrote more songs about politics/love. Then they would have received more airplay.
Also people have forgot about the great DC funk/r&b bands from the 1970's that laid the foundation. If some of them had decided to stay on the circuit GOGO's sound and history would be completely different. The DC bands now have lost that unique FUNK flavor..Essence never had it. Nowadays people call a 5 minute congo break "crank", I call it "lazy".
As far as Trouble Funk, they were like a bridge between the two eras. I like them because they utilize every instrument and also the clever way they structure their arrangements
Also It is good to see my old friend Dyke in this video playing guitar which was not his main instrument. He was a great person and a great writer/arranger. May he Rest in Peace.
This is available as an LP, but I would LOVE to find a full recording of the gig somewhere, kinda like the holy grail.
Chuck was the Godfather of GoGo. Trouble Funk were the Enforcers of Go-Go
KNUF FUNK for Every Galaxy star 2 Shine!
Still Cranking in 2013.
White folks abroad love that good music and culture. M
You have no idea! I took my Black American self to see Troublefunk at the Brixton Academy in London sometime in the 80s. It was pretty much me and Troublefunk on stage. My White Brit brothers and sisters had on their drop the bomb t-shirts. They had their whistles. If you listen you can here them blowing on this video. They had the place rocking! I was pleasantly surprised! Honestly, I was wtf is going on! A good time was had by all!
cool
Must was still on tour when go go live was in da making
