    A classic swedish pancake is just the flat pancake with jam or butter + sugar.
    Other curious pancake variants in sweden are Kolbulle. sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolbulle
    In my region normally served at the "old times fair" where they make in a pan over open fire. It's a type of pancake made without eggs and with pork. Served with lingonberry jam.

    Friendly Swede reporting in, I felt I had to come in to say that 90% of the Swedish population doesn't care what you do with our potato pancakes. In my case, I only got potato pancakes (in whatever form) in school, no one in my family make them.
    If I remember it correctly you even mentioned lingonberry jam in the video but you used what you had available, I would say that apple sauce was a good idea that I hadn't though of before.
    Keep up the good work!

      Potato pancakes are served in Germany as _quasi-standard_ with apple sauce. Cream cheese or sour cream are also served with potato pancakes very often. You could say that applesauce is a german reflex when we see potato pancakes.

    If you want to get an even better taste, there's this fantastic (and simple) thing called "Rårörda lingon" which basically just translates to "Raw stirred lingonberries". It would replace lingonberry jam, and is basically just raw lingonberries stirred with some sugar. 250g of frozen berries to 1/2dl of sugar, stirred now and again while the berries thaw. It really pops the natural lingonberry taste better :)

    • @anderspersson7084

      If your an advanced panncake gourmand you want your panncake as a dessert you can simply mix a good amount of real cream (40% fat) into the lingonberry jam or whipp the cream, and you have a delicious dessert.
      If you have leftover panncakes you can simply out the panncake in squares 1,5-2 cm and put a little butter in the pan and start to heat it up and then pour some milk into the pan just a little more than the panncakes can suck up and voila you have a new dish that goes very well with...guess.....yes The answer is lingonberry jam, but bluberry jam works well with this to.

      A great tart berry that contains a lot of vitamins and natural preservatives that means you can make jam only adding sugar.

      @mynameisandong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes and no. I grated the potatoes because I had to - this releases both moisture and starch. You can add the released starch from the bottom of the bowl back in, or use storebought. I prefer the latter because it's dryer and allows for more control!

    If I don't want to add any berries of any kind, it's it okay to eat the pancakes with chilling sauce?

    Hi, Andong! Congrats for your channel. I enjoy and learn with it very much! It doesn't have much to do with pankakes, but as you know a lot about chinese food, I will like to ask you if you can teach us how to prepare century eggs (the black chinese eggs), as I can't find a good and doable recipe. Thanks a lot!

    why do you remove the potato starch at 1:56 just to add potato starch back in at 2:36 ?

    • @mynameisandong
      @mynameisandong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because you can’t grate the potato without losing the starch.

    Andong... If you are putting the potato in the water to get rid of excess starch and then add extra potato starch,
    wouldn't it be faster and easier to just skip the washing step? They don't get brown THAT fast.

    Traditionally a Swedish “potato pancake” dish in whatever shape it may be includes stekt fläsk(fried pork) that is the same cut as bacon but in thicker slices and is rimmat(salted) instead of smoked. Of course they need lingon, like pretty much most of our cultural dishes, so much lingon!
    An other style of potato dish is “Pitepalt” and is a boiled ball of shredded raw potato and flour with som diced sidfläsk or diced bacon, this dish is also served with lingon of course! (and true to our Viking heritage there is an alteration of this dish witch includes sifted rye and BLOOD called “Blodpalt”)

    There are at least three types of normal pancakes in sweden too: plättar (small pancakes made in a special pan called plättlagg), pannkakor (just normal pancakes), tjockpannkaka (made in the oven often with pork then it is transformed into fläskpannkaka). and don't get me started on waffles.

    "You're lost in the panncake"
    (History lesson)
    When you lost the aim of the target in your mind, there is an old Swedish proverb for that:
    "You're lost in the panncake"
    thats how much panncakes affects your life according to Swedes.
