Jp: Ashley is a famous witch who want friends
English: Dark magic witch who isn’t afraid to kill you

I like how in the English version it presents her as a witch who wants things her way for the most part.
In the Japanese version it shows her as a fun girl who wants to be friends with everyone
    ((In my opinion))

I heard that she is 8 in japan but much older in the other states, if that is true than this might explain the change of lyrics and personality in both version.

The reason the Brawl dub version's different is because... Ashley is completely different between regions

Dame, I didn't realize the lyrics in Ashley's theme were completely different in the Japanese version.
I wonder why they changed it in the English version.

1:1 translations don't always work, especially for songs where rhythm and rhyme are very important. Two languages don't have all the same words, and the words that have the same meaning will still often have different sounds and syllable counts. The same thing happens when an English song is translated to another language.

@@terpsidance. Yes but at the same time the songs protagonist may aswell be totally different characters with how differently they're presented.
Rythem heaven managed to translate the lyrics to the songs there while keeping up the same general feelling and tone so why couldn't they do the same here?
I'm sure if they wanted to be faithful they could've found a way to change around the lyrics while keeping up similar feel. But instead they just decided go and do their own thing.
Not that I'm complaining both songs are bops.

@@guythatdosethingssometimes2651 I'm not familiar with any rhythm heaven songs having lyrics, aside from the one or two words the characters say, so I'd need an example of a rhythm heaven song with lyrics to understand what you mean.

@@terpsidance. I'd say the translations for fan club on ds and karate man in fever are pretty good examples.
Fan club is more or less translated pretty directly translated for better or worse but still flows relatively well.
And while Karate man does swap around lines and the phrasing of certain parts it still communicates the same general meaning as the original.
Point being: changing almost everything about the song wasn't the only option. they just decided to characterize Ashley differently all on their own.

fun fact: if you speed up and spin the disc fast or whatever it says "made in warioware" so the "i have granted kids to hell" thing might be intentional .-.
