My mother was an accomplished opera singer and she loves Mariah. This is a difficult and challenging piece of serious song craftsmanship: Mariah pulls it off at ease back in 1994. She truly is one hell of a "Bentley" of songbirds! Whitney is the Rolls Royce! Both are incredible car makers, both are incredible vocalists.

There are so many singers who can hit this high note but mostly they are too loud or too weak and without something conveying lyrics.

I love the performances Mariah has done in her career with choirs like this one accompanying her. Obviously, MC has got a voice that could sing a phone book a capella, and captivate, but I think the choir adds so much and compliments so well the natural soulful quality to Mariah's soaring vocals. That's one reason I'd like to see someone like Kelly Clarkson for example, also do some choir -accompanied work in her career. For the audience, it's marvelous.

xe781 It's possible... she'd have to do a lot of technique work and therapeutic vocalization to get her to the point where she'd have that healthy blend of mixed voice. From what I hear of her now (for example, her performances at Ceasar's Palace), she's still got the range she just needs a lot of bridging work from low chest voice to high belting range. Often I hear her pushing her low and mid voice too heavy, making getting into her upper register all the more difficult. There are specific exercises that can target this area so that effortlessness and agility can return over time. This is something that could be done with the guidance of a vocal pathologist. I personally don't hear a lot of horrible pathology from Mariah, I hear an unhealthy technique. Whether over time as well as with pregnancy and hormonal changes, Mariah has developed away from utilizing healthy technique; this is something that could be remedied through focused, consistent work. I don't think she wants to put in the time and effort though, at this point.
No human has the same voice after 20 years. Still, her voice shouldn't have deteriorated as it has if she would have taken better care of it. She can still get it back if she took a break and stop losing and gaining weight. That harms the vocal chords
