- Altdorf Tell Memorial is located in the centre of the small town, which is the capital of the canton of Uri in Switzerland. The canton of Uri belongs to the German-speaking part of Switzerland and is part of the greater region of Central Switzerland.
Wilhelm Tell is a legendary Swiss freedom fighter. His story is set in what is now central Switzerland and is dated to the year 1307. The poet Friedrich Schiller wrote the famous stage play about Tell in 1804.
Sights of Altdorf include the Tell memorial as well as magnificent manor houses and those of former mercenary leaders who returned home.
