Man, Gastineau was like superman back in 1987. Sad to see him so frail these days. He is battling colon cancer, dementia, and Alzheimer. Major up hill battle but wish him full recovery.

Yes, he actually beat him twice in that event. Darrell said Walker just had a different gear than the rest of us. Where did those day go? I remember watching those events as a kid.
Loved this show as a kid, but there's no way teams ( or insurance companies) would allow current sports stars to do it these days - too worried about someone getting injured.
Even in the 80s, athletes got paid a pittance compared to what they make now. For instance, they showed Todd Worrell in that first interview… he only got paid $100,000 in 1986. Sure there’s some pride involved as well, but the prize money in events like this made it pretty lucrative.
I remember watching this and the one thing they didn’t do was announce the times of the 100 yd dash. Does anybody know what the times were between Gault & Walker?
Gosh I miss this 70's/80's dramatic music, and the bombastic commentary too. I think the word is 'razzmatazz', that's it, they had razzmatazz back then, I loved razzmatazz as a kid. It's probably seen as a cliche nowadays.
@@GuapoSantana Lol, you have no evidence that was a myth. That is a workout regime he started in grade school. I know HW...I've studied him since 1982.

During the off season, he did about 1500 on average, and about 2,000 (scissor) crunch situps. During the season, he'd do about 700 pushups. That doesn't count his pullups bar dips & sprints. As a once disciple, I've done as many as 1,600 (quality) pushups in 58 to 62 minutes. But not everyday. I've done as many as 2,200 pushups during the course of watching an NFL (500 a quarter & 200 at halftime) game. My sincere apologies for any ambiguity.🙂 These days I do between 200-600 pushups three days a week, along with about 500-1000 situps. Not counting other routines.
William Mendes Green ran his 10.08 at altitude his next best official time was not as fast as walkers 10.23. I believe it was 10.28. Green also lost to gault every time they raced in the hundred.

@Laz Chavez Green beat in this order in the 1988 NFL's Fastest Man: Green beat in this order to win it again, Mark duper, Hershel Walker, the final was Rod Woodson.
The Superstars competition was the best! Such a great idea - brings me back to my childhood days.
Great watching Herschel Walker go head to head with Willie Gault. Like Superman vs. the Flash.
Not to mention he virtually smoked the great Darrell Green 0:50
So it was decided by one guy watching it live? Should be judged by watching the slow motion replay.
Herschel was just a beast!!
Gastineau comes off as incredibly engaging. Didn't remember him like this.

Fyi, testeverde squatted 550lbs at Miami, absolutely incredible for a QB especially in 1987.
These were classics
I competed against Willie in college at the Penn Relays!!! HE IS REALLY TOUGH!!!
the basketball competition should have been arranged as a one person at a time event.
Proud of Vince Coleman.
:55 So it's true that Herschel DID beat Darrell Green in the 100 yard dash...

I LOVED the Superstars competitions! Thanks so much for this! Do you happen to have the 1988 one? Either way, MUCH appreciated!
i'm looking for that one too, i worked the event for Jeep, they were the first corporate sponsors

Willie Gault running a 2:04 half mile!!!!
Didn't this start out on ABC
Yes it did
Mark's hair slowed him down.

Nobody ever believes Herschel
Why do you say that?
Because of the never lifted weights and only push ups and sit-ups myth he started

Green beat him in the 60 yards, that is not speed. That's quickness.

One of the many reasons why I thought the 80's sucked.
Richard Johnson I will try to upload more episodes of Superstars in the near future.
Why? They aren't your videos. You are one of the shitbags who steals others work and uses it for your own shit. And your channel is shit.
Richard Johnson thank you for your interest in my channel.

That's at 60 yards. 60 yards is not a true measure of speed.
