If you are using the Sonoff Zigbee ZBDongle-E, instead of Sonoff Zigbee ZBDongle-P (in the video) there is an extra step. You need to change your serial adapter inside of the Addon Configuration to : "adapter: ezsp". Hopefully that will save you some searching!
Ill go ahead and ring that notification bell and let the algorythem known that accounts that watch what i watch will want to watch this channel and video. Hope you see a spike this weekend and when the video premiers. Good luck with the bew account. Know the early weeks and months are the hardest and hope you perservier. Stay resilient.
I got to installing zigbee dongle step 3 then;"Zigbee2MQTT:error 2023-08-28 15:23:35: Error while starting zigbee-herdsman Zigbee2MQTT:error 2023-08-28 15:23:35: Failed to start zigbee". This hole process seems to be riddled with problems, I'm not sure it's for me. I'm a EE but not IT or computer programer. Does it ever get to the point were you just write automations and they work?
Hi Michael, there will be a day when the issues seem to have melted away! I promise! What zigbee stick and what type of home assistant install are you on? Happy to help in the discord
I'm using the gear you suggest on your video "How to install HA on Rpi w/SSD", HA 10.5 HA core 2023.8.4, Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle. I'm running HA on Safari 16.6 which has created its own set of problems. When I got the above error and went to "how to solve Failed to start Zigbee" and read the 15 ways that could happen not understanding any of them, I threw my hands up....@@ChuckBuilds
Okay great that rules out some things. Was there anything else in the logs with the error? such as : Zigbee2MQTT:error 2022-05-28 19:41:44: Error while starting zigbee-herdsman Zigbee2MQTT:error 2022-05-28 19:41:44: Failed to start zigbee Zigbee2MQTT:error 2022-05-28 19:41:44: Exiting... Zigbee2MQTT:error 2022-05-28 19:41:44: Error: Failed to connect to the adapter
Have you tried using /dev/serial/by-id/ instead of /dev/ttyUSB0 ? I'd try that, maybe swap USB ports for the sonoff stick to a new one, and then if still no luck hop over to my discord and I'll try to get you fixed up
Hopefully a quick question. I've very new to this and I note there is a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2. My (limited) reading thus far suggests they may be for different purposes. Which to use with HA? EDIT, further readings shows there's a ZBDongle-P, and a ZBDongle-E, with E being the later version, now much better supported with later firmware.
I’ve used the P version with no issues at all and that’s what I use in the video. I think the e version came out more recently and requires one little config change but you can check that on the zigbee2mqtt site. I wouldn’t expect a huge difference between the two. Note: with matter entering the scene you may want to buy a new zigbee coordinator that supports it in the future. Conbee just came out with one but I’ve read bad reviews. I’m personally waiting for something else. All to say, brace yourself to be upgrading at some point in the future, maybe get a cheap one (P I think), now
If you configure MQTT like I did, you can leave it blank. If you are using a different machine to host mqtt or something else that’s different you’d need to point it to your mqtt broker.
MQTT is a simple way for smart devices to talk to each other. Zigbee2MQTT connects Zigbee devices to MQTT so they can communicate with non-Zigbee stuff, all through one system. MQTT can exist without Zigbee2MQTT. Zigbee2MQTT can't exist without MQTT broker.
Hello. thank you for your very helpful and informative videos. One question is the HA skyconnect USB a good buy for zigbee? i red that it will also have support for matter soon.
I’m unfamiliar with that brand. After a quick search I see that some people were able to flash Tasmota on them. Others had limited success with the localtuya integration

Thank you! Let me know if you want me to cover anything for ya
One of the best videos on this subject in my opinion. This helped me a lot.
very clear instructions, now I finally have power consumption stats on my aqara smart plug !
That was perfectly explained; great work. Thank you.👌
Still a great video with structure and a lot of info

Yes, that was all there. Along with another line directing to the "possible solutions"

@@ChuckBuilds Thank you. I did a littel more reading and ended up ordering the E version, which turned out to be cheaper :)
Thanks, very helpful and straight to the point!
3:59 . do you leave mqtt blank? i saw in some vids they type something in there

So whats the difference between the Mqtt broker add on vs the zigbee integration add on?

Yes absolutely! I hope to get my hands on one to test it out soon!
@@ChuckBuilds. Got it. thanks for the response!
Thank you much :)
I have a Moes wired gateway with a IP address, how can I setup on Home Assistant?
