- Short lecture on catalysis in chemical kinetics.
A catalyst is a species which participates in and speeds up a chemical reaction without being produced or consumed by the net reaction. Catalysts function by lowering the energy of activation, but do not change the energy of reaction. Catalytic rate constants are often so high the catalysts are very effective even at low concentration.

Great channel, but the videos are quite hard to understand. Could you make some simpler videos e.g. on diffusion?
Hi Six. This is video 136 of 137 in the chemical thermodynamics and kinetics playlist. I wouldn't expect it to make much sense without first either going through quite a few of the 21 chemical kinetics videos that precede it, or having taken a pchem course. I would consider diffusion and many other transport-related processes to be more complicated than any topics presented here.
