While Poland-Lithuania was not a democracy in modern sense. It was in fact one of first elective systems in the Europe. Constitution of Third May was second modern constitution in history after US. In fact Tadeusz Kościuszko is a American Revolutionary hero who for example build West Point. He was also a friend of Thomas Jefferson.
The bear is a real thing! :) There really was a bear in the polish army.
More then one actually
Wojtek
Yup. And he also was carrying ammo crates and smoking. So he actually was giving official rank. To prevent his removal from the unit.
official soldier upgraded to sergeant after the battle of Monte Cassino
@@dorotabarbowska2184 Unfortunately, only a corporal, not a sergeant
In Polish-Lithuanian Commonwelath voting rights had about 10% of population. In that regard Poland was more "democratic" than ancient Greece called "the home of democracy".
Wojtek the bear soldier is a great and true story, definitely worth checking out. Wojtek helped during the battle at Monte Cassino, he carried heavy weapon. He was an official soldier. Sounds crazy but these are facts
10:20 it is real Wojtek was an artillery assist bear carrying ammo.
About the king election. King was chosen by nobility that made ca 10% of population. Similar to democracy in Athens
The animated history of Poland would be a good reaction
You can watch a polish series about Polish Legends but shown in a modern way. Great CGI, amazing acting by profesional polish actors and it has english subtitles as well.
It's called
Legendy Polskie - Allegro
1. Twardowski
2. Twardowski part 2
3. Operacja Bazyliszek
3. Baba Jaga (read J like english Y)
It's based on polish folklore legends and old belives with a lot of slavic mythology.
I recommend!
About the bear. It's a fact, it's true. During II w.w Polish army had a bear (this bear which they told, Wojtek). Wojtek/Wojciech (like Johnny/John) mean Joyfull soldier - Woj, like wojak which means soldier, and ciech means cieszyć sie - being happy. There is a lot stories about him, even in one was the interview with veteran, who remember him - I recommend this movie to react, but I didn't remember a tittle. In fact, this wasn't first and only bear in PL army :P
The Polish love soccer, but we've sucked at it for decades.
We're much better at volleyball.
Miś Wojtek walczył pod Monte Cassino. Podawał amunicję .
The company's name originated from the founding Warner brothers (born Wonsal, Woron and Wonskolaser before Anglicization):Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack Warner. Harry, Albert and Sam emigrated as young children with their Polish-Jewishmother to the United States from Krasnosielc, Poland (then part of Congress Poland within the Russian Empire), in October 1889, a year after their father emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Baltimore, Maryland.
Poland look eastern european but only if you dont know how europe looks. Russia isnt the border of asia. Big chunk including Moscow is part of europe. Official border is set on Ural mountain range. So when we look at europe from that point of view poland is completly geographicaly in the center. You have 3300 km from warsaw to Lisbona(which you can think like western border of europe) and 3100-3200 km from warsaw to jekaterynburg. Which is city lying close to Ural mountain range.
But it also cultural Center. West of poland is more western like becose of German univited visitors. And east of poland is more east like becose of russian invited visitors.
The Malbork castle is close to Gdańsk
19:00 - don't ask what is this, just eat it! You can say "thank you" afterwards :)
@@lelumpoloneum8647 O czym ty pierdolisz?
That Bear is real
The Witcher is from POLAND ❤
no, this is not a photo of Wojtek the bear. The gentlemen in the picture have German helmets with German markings. Please, have mercy ;)
Great video. A bit of a side track, could you consider creating an bio-vid about Jan Karski or Witold Pilecki? I feel as if their heroic stories are unknown to some ppl. Basically they've made their life mission to inform the world about the atrocities conducted by the Germans. The Hollywood movies don't fully portray those crimes as they were FAR worse in real life. I had some filmmaking / acting experience and I swear it's about time to accurately represent Jewish/Polish bravery and German's cruelty. My whole family was affected by WWII. I had a Jewish uncle who was a Holocaust survivor and lost his mother during a Nazi raid when he was only 14. We have to keep the memory about it alive no matter how painful it may seem. Also; equally important is the story of Irena Sendler and Julian Grobelny.
Where my Poles at?
Greetings from Poland guys!
Awesome as always eh TriFate?
this bear handed boxes of bullets to soldiers during fights and this is true. Welcome in Poland :)
This is Bear Wojtek!!!! C'omon! Polish pierogi🥟❤❤❤
It was a noble democracy. All the nobility chose.
Speaking of polish games - witcher 3 is a classic example.
The free election that started in 16th century is pretty complicated story, it was more democratic system than anything that was in Europe at the time, but it had all the flaws moder democracy has but to even higher degree ;p The first free election actually took place in the 14th century, but they've chosen the dynasty that ruled for the next 200 years (to be more precise they only accepted the candidate). The election itself isn't even the most democratic part of that system, there was whole bicameral parliament that was a legislative body. There was a constitutionlike document called Nihil Novi, which is a Latin term for "nothing new" in the sense - nothing new without the approval of the parliament.
It may sounds nice, but in practise 10% of the population had right to take part with it and most of them were lobbying and scheaming in their own interest, including choosing a monarch that promised them the most, it wasn't always the best candidate for the country. The worst part was the Liberum Veto, according to this law any member of the parliament could veto any change, so one guy could delay or block any decision.
It worked pretty well at the beginning, but when Poland became too big, too rich and too powerful this system weakened it from the inside and it was one of major reasons why Poland fell.
America should take notes, because there are many similarities between the system of old Poland and modern USA ;p
I think it's pickled herring. Herring dishes are very popular all over Poland, but this one is served in a strange "modern" way.
Picture of Wolf's Lair in fact it isn't it. It is Leśniewo canal, about 35 km away from Hitlers lair
regarding vodka ; polish rusian ''war'' for a name...when you see vodka with V is international but with a W it's polish ... 16 century was first time when was ''use'' ... in poland , but first ever known destilations was by muslim persians
Marking the furthest point to the east and the furthest point to the west of Europe, the center of Europe falls in eastern Poland.
If you got the name Grzegorz you would just be Gregory my dude🙂
21:55 minute; OK I'll do a quiz for you guys ;)
1. In what year was Poland baptized?
2. How many years Poland wasn't on map
3. In what year was Battle of Moscow (Russia and Polish-Lithania)
4. How many partitions were there and who carried them out? (I mean which countries)
5. Who was Józef Piłsudski
I think that's all :D

*Geography Now! Turkey (Türkiye) 🇹🇷* pls
Kings were elected by szlachta - Polish version of aristocracy. And oh boy, the elections were corruption fiesta with each wannabe kings offering more and more privileges to szlachta if they get elected, making king position weaker and weaker and ultimately leading to Polish disappearance from the maps for 123 years (ofc it was "a bit" more complicated that just this, but szlachta's infighting and king not being able to unite them or force to do anything useful or even pay taxes allowing for strong army was one of main reasons of Poland's fall).
