The clash between the harsh electronic tone of the "Funi Special Intro" music and the whimsy of the "Cha-La Head Cha-La" animation is absolutely fucking hysterical to me. Someone got paid to look at that animation set to that music and think "yeah, this fits."
It's astounding that Funimation was able to give us the definitive versions of the English Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT themes but THAT is what they decided to put out for Dragon Ball Z.
Considering how dark those specials were, Cha-La Head Cha-La just didn't fit in general, animation or music. While the special intro's *music* fits the tone of the specials more, keeping the animation as is was certainly...a choice.
I realize there are challenges to re-writing lyrics to the tune of a Japanese song, so ya gotta give credit to Funimation for their version of "Makafushigi Adventure" because the lyrics are pretty fantastic and catchy.
The thing is... what Harmony Gold did was miracle work. The 2nd Dragon Ball intro textless is gone. Toei threw it away by accident. It's rarer than the actual Dragon Balls at this rate.

Sorry Bruce
Idk why I keep watching this but it’s a shame Funimation THE BIG CHUNGUS OF DUBBING HAD TO USE THE CRAPPY 1st INTRO INSTEAD OF THE 💞GLAMOROUS💞 2ND INTRO!!!! (toonami ones pretty cool)
I watched the BLT dragon ball movies. Good times. Didn’t know they were made by BLT till I saw this video. Thought Ocean dubbed the Dragon Ball movies?
You know what else reminds me of bodily injuries? Every fucking character in the Trunks special being offed by the androids causing them to live in a dystopian future as Trunks watches everyone around him suffer. Oh, and Bardock also watches his race get wiped out at face value.
For years I still remember when I was in high school in the mid-90s and the blood rubies movie came out, I never heard of dragon ball before, except for a couple commercials, then, when I saw it, I thought it was a great thing to watch. Then years later Z came on Cartoon Network and it had me hooked. I’ve always like dragon ball and I think that the curse of the blood rubies opening theme is my first and favorite intro to the Dragon Ball series as well as the other shows but I never even knew that Goku’s American name was zero, but still Goku is a better name.
4:44 That intro is so awesome. I grew up watching Dragonball as a kid, and that intro was the one I grew up with, and every time, it was so awesome watching the show and hearing that awesome theme song. By the way, does anyone know if this version of Dragonball that has this intro is on DVD? Cause I've only seen it on VHS and on TH-cam. Cause if it is, I would love to get it.
This was absolutely phenomenal and I love everything about this awesome with the video keep up the great work and don't stop making possibilities.✨️🙏👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥
I'm probably going insane, but I'm sure there was another theme, a hard rock piece that had the lyrics "You've got to fight with the heart, the speed, the skill of the dragon" I'm in the UK and I remember it being an intro.
That is most certainly not from a Dragon Ball dub, but it was probably from another cartoon airing at the time. I don’t have a single clue what it could even be from, but at the very least I know I’ve done the research to know that this video has at the very least every DB Intro that aired in the US and UK.
@@funkybunko Yeah, I'm probably going insane, because I can't find anything about it. I'll have to go digging through my old VHSs when I recorded the show and see if I can locate it... or perhaps it was just a fever dream. Anyway, thanks for getting back to me with an answer, and thanks for the video :D
@@AX5Terminator Having looked it up, I can absolutely see why you'd think that and it is possible. I don't recall ever watching DD when I was a kid (though I did play the games) but it's very possible that this is what I'm thinking of.

Remastered intro is stellar. I love the guitar playing and when I rewatched dbz as an adult after many years not watching it, I teared up when this intro started. That second I realized I’m never gonna not be able to love anime. I remembered just how important this show was to me. The 1st intro for dbz is the most iconic intro I’ve ever seen. The Japanese intro songs are my absolute favorite. The English versions of them just don’t work. They’re okay but in Japanese it just sounds so much more natural. Rock the dragon kicks ass and it always will but cha la head cha la is irreplaceable. Step into the grand tour is a disgrace and it made me hesitant to get into gt. Being deprived of Dan Dan kokoro in America is shameful. I love falconer’s score but one of the worst things about falconers version is that we were deprived of the kikuchi score and the original Japanese openings, both of which were just beautiful. Some of these intros are really weird. Can you imagine if son goku was still known in America as zero? That would be so bizarre. I remember when uncut dbz came out. That intro was really cool.
People like you make me cringe. Genuinely. I don't know how any of you weebs can't see the dark nature of GT and think "oh, these whimsical, bimbo songs fit this very nicely. I hate guitars playing for fights to the death between men". Seriously, where did your balls go? I'm not even hating on Dan Dan either. I love them both. You purists just make me absolutely livid because its coming from a place of ignorance. There is no basis for your opinion besides personal preference.

Theres actually 2 the one here that was used for the English dub that was aired in the Philippines and one that was done in English by the original Japanese singer that was only released on one cd release in Japan
Yep, the Harmony Gold dub actually changed all the characters names, and the first test version of FUNimation & BLT Production’s dub used some of the Harmony Gold names before deciding to go with more accurately translated ones. The only character who still uses the Harmony Gold name is Master Roshi.
At 21:19, which opening is this, like which company and/or arc? I’m blind, so I only know the song. I can find it in compilation videos like this, but I can’t find the individual song.
I like the blue watter theme but at the same time it could have been used for anything else it just doesn't fit db who let blue watter cook also i ment the Canadian version btw edit who let av group cook yk the guys that I think made the big green dub also it was a translation of the French theme apparently so =|
It was the only copy I could find when I was compiling this video. The Creative Products dubs are pretty rare in general so I was lucky to even find a copy, even if it’s a pretty rough one.
Hence the title “Every Dragon Ball/Z/GT English Dub Intro”. I decided not to include Kai because there are 8 different English versions of Dragon Soul and that would get repetitive, and I didn’t include Kai The Final Chapters or Super because those shows were produced in 16:9 and the point of this video was to present every 4:3 intro.
A test dub of the first Dragon Ball movie produced by FUNimation and BLT Productions that was sent to distributors to see if anyone was interested. It was almost identical to the final version of the BLT Curse of the Blood Rubies dub, but most characters still had their Harmony Gold names.
What really gets me is that Harmony Gold, of all people, somehow had a copy of Opening 2 without credits when not even Toei can dig one up. …what do you wanna bet it's still lying around in a Harmony Gold vault somewhere? They were probably the ones that lost it.
(Addendum: if any of you are looking for a creditless version of OP2 for your own use, the Seed of Might fan remaster has one in their color corrected release of OG Dragon Ball. I believe it's manually rotoscoped from a version with credits, rather than an actual clean source, but if that's the case then they've done a damn good job hiding the seams.)
Ok, but let’s not sleep on the fact that the singer for 9:52 is actually amazing. Only thing that would make it better is if the used the song’s original Japanese instrumental instead of their edited one. Edit: I found an edited version that’s exactly what I asked for! Yaaaa I finally hear the power of dragonball
Rock the dragon best intro EVER!!!!!
I like the blue watter theme but at the same time it could have been used for anything else it just doesn't fit db who let blue watter cook also i ment the Canadian version btw edit who let av group cook yk the guys that I think made the big green dub also it was a translation of the French theme apparently so =|
It’s a translation of the French intro so I’d blame AB Groupe since they’re responsible for both the French dub and the Blue Water dub.
@funkybunko thanks for the info and in that case mb blue watter and who tf let ab group cook
A los americanis no les salio bien el donlaje de los opening.. sin desmerecerlos ..pero el doblaje español es fasinante
Awesome, this song is everywhere
I remember the Westwood Dub intro airing just a couple times. I remember not liking it very much
RIP Akira Toriyama
Blue Water (UK)
dragon ball dragon ball dragon ball dragon ball dragon ball
original lol
Man this are awesome.but what happened to the 2nd song quality lol
It was the only copy I could find when I was compiling this video. The Creative Products dubs are pretty rare in general so I was lucky to even find a copy, even if it’s a pretty rough one.
@@funkybunko damn I had no idea. Coolio
25:04 Look how they butchered EL PODER NUESTRO ES, please here this opening in latino version, is just glorious
This does not include DBZ Kai and Super Intros though
Hence the title “Every Dragon Ball/Z/GT English Dub Intro”. I decided not to include Kai because there are 8 different English versions of Dragon Soul and that would get repetitive, and I didn’t include Kai The Final Chapters or Super because those shows were produced in 16:9 and the point of this video was to present every 4:3 intro.
4:16 the only difference is. it says zero he's out hero
What is the BLT TEST DUB?
A test dub of the first Dragon Ball movie produced by FUNimation and BLT Productions that was sent to distributors to see if anyone was interested. It was almost identical to the final version of the BLT Curse of the Blood Rubies dub, but most characters still had their Harmony Gold names.
What really gets me is that Harmony Gold, of all people, somehow had a copy of Opening 2 without credits when not even Toei can dig one up.
…what do you wanna bet it's still lying around in a Harmony Gold vault somewhere? They were probably the ones that lost it.
God damn it harmony gold YOU HAD TO FUCK UP
(Addendum: if any of you are looking for a creditless version of OP2 for your own use, the Seed of Might fan remaster has one in their color corrected release of OG Dragon Ball.
Here’s the link: th-cam.com/video/E5ChXjdLnPM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HCOVYj1fy3P3GG3m
That shit went so hard
Geno Padillas version was so good it should've just been the international version of the song.
