- As China rapidly expands its fleet, churning out warships at an alarming rate, the rest of the world struggles to keep up. Yet, in the ocean's murky depths, a new type of vessel roams beneath the waves.
A creation of defense start-up Andurial Industries, Dive-XL is no ordinary submarine. With no crew, electric propulsion, and easily acquired materials, she is considerably less expensive and quicker to build than most other modern underwater vehicles, paving the way for the production of entire armadas in record time. However, in December 2024, she proved herself to be far more than a low-budget alternative - she revealed a unique, unprecedented capability. And with Anduril’s engineers already setting their sights even higher, it seems this is only the beginning…
I was a ASW technician in the Navy 50 years ago. When the USSR launched a new submarine there was always a push to get its different frequencies as it moves though the water. Every submarine produces unique sounds. If drone torpedoes are built they can sit and wait for preprogrammed targets using these unique frequencies.
@@Chris_at_Home that’s what I’m thinking these little subs and those new Manta subs are probably for. I got to think that about 1500 of these things placed strategically around the world sitting on the bottom until called upon would make every water way in the world completely impassable within hours. Your thoughts?
@@ryanjones3043less than 500 would do the same thing
@ maybe…… but 2000 would be better. It’s a big ass ocean
@ we both are experts im sure we can find the right number so lets say 2001
@ excellent! 2001 it is!
It takes the U.S. 7 years to build a submarine. It takes China 5 years to build it & 6 months to recover it from the bottom of the river.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You said it before I started typing it. Plus this fancy military they are building is just one thing submerging their economy-I couldn’t help my pun! And we see the US Navy all over the World. Where is the Chinese Navy? Close to home waters and bullying small Filipino ships!
The sub didn’t sink…. The ocean got too high….
@@annehersey9895
Only 10% can operate beyond 1000km for any extended period of time,, they could not even challenge a squadron of destroyers blocking their oil in malacca straights..
😂😂😂😂
Mistake in your story. You state that no submarine has ever traversed 1,000 nautical miles without surfacing. In 1960 the USS Triton (SSN586) circumnavigated the earth submerged, surfacing only once to evacuate a sick crewman.
the definitely snorkeled though because there is no way the air would stay fresh
They are talking about Unmanned subs. American nuclear subs can remain submerged for months if there was enough food on board, circumventing earth several times submerged.
A new record ‘for a vessel of this type’ ie unmanned autonomous
@@devinlacefield7538 lol you’re not familiar with sub tech huh?
No such thing as “old air” on a sub
@@ryanjones3043 i was literally a nuke EM on a LA class and we snorkeled for fresh air all the time, burners and scrubbers can only recycle air so many times lol
Calling China's Navy the largest...Is like calling a herd of 20 zebras, larger that a herd of 17 elephants. China has more boats, but the U.S. have nearly twice the tonnage.
Don't fool yourself with Hollywood brother , yemenis 2 times hit americam carriers ! Search about it a little, but not in western media! Never underestimate your enemies

@@emerlabra1934 Well, it might be more like comparing a great white shark to a killer whale, the numbers and strategy game becomes all the more important than the size difference.
The Nazis had great success with their pocket battleships in WW2 it’s not always about size.
Also, their true power projection capabilities are not close the those of the United States.
As a US Navy, STG (Sonar Technician Surface) for the first part of my career (retired medically 2014 due to multiple service connected injuries), finding subs is and can be a real challenge. Today, adding the autonomous factor and being a Sonar Technician either surface (STG) or Subsurface (STS), the game has now become one of the elite and most important parts of naval warfare, bar none. Future ST's will have to be the best of the best and the gear and technology will have to continue to advance by leaps and bounds to stay able to detect threats at the surface duct level or below it. You can have all the aircraft you want, all the ships you desire, all the missiles on the planet. All it takes is one submarine, manned or unmanned, to make it all irrelevant.
My Sonar instructor told us that the only way to find a submarine in some waters is with a very long stick.
Oh, and I'm Aussie, ex RAN
@@Peter-y5y9i Never heard that one before.. but I when I was on my first ship one of the sonar techs training me said that the BT drop slug was to check for submarines under the ship.. Thankfully I was one of the few that did not fall for that one. Even so, I always preferred sending newbs to grab a pack of 'sound powered' phone batteries....
Note: Bathythermograph lead bullet shaped wedge with wire guide that was for temperature sea state and layer information graphing, for those that don't know what a BT drop means.
Remote piloted undersea craft will do to warships, what air drones have done to the tank, make them almost obsolete.
I can't help to always wonder about these types of machines being hacked ! I mean hell every system we have has been hacked and I never hear what has ever been done about it or any one being held accountable for it!
You ever wonder if those hacks are allowed to happen so we can do counterintelligence? There were hacks a long time ago about some stealth tech but it was a set up and I believe it was China that spent a fortune trying to build the plane and later it was found out they had been had.
China having the largest Navy does mean anything when a majority of their ships are called fishing boats
Do you see the pentagon running around all in a panic....stop worrying about shit they just got that we had 40 yrs ago
Exactly, and we also know that DARPA has designed and implemented things that the public won’t know exist for another 30-40 years from now. Hell just look at how long ago America had the B-2 Stealth Bomber that was built way back in 1987. We were building the B-2 Spirit 38 years ago. Or the F-117 that We were working on back in the 1970’s, and first took flight in 1980. An of course we could never forget about the SR-71 from way back in 1964 when she took her first flight. As far as the public is told that no other aircraft has ever flown as fast as her
How did they act the dy before 9-11......
No worries nothing to see here and than WHAM.........
Underestimating your enemy is a potentially catastrophic mistake. The RAN discovered this when Indonesian patrol boats were fitted with Scud missiles. We had no countermeasures at the time. And Indonesia was considered the main threat, apart from the war in Vietnam (showing my age).

Let's also acknowledge that the combination of western navies far out paces the combined Chinese navy.
Let's also acknowledge that at least half of this vaunted Navy are cargo vessels and other 'boats' that may as well be canoes for all their combat capability.

Why does this feel like one more step toward terminator’s judgement day? Is it me, but does anyone else think it is a bad idea to have automated weapons running around controlled by AI?
its got the pump jet mounted Internal - probably uses active vibration cancellation around the propulsion package. I wonder how long the batteries last? - I would bet money it recharges its-self fully-autonomously. Just like the Navy's roving acoustic arrays which travel hundreds of miles before docking, charging and moving again thousands of feet deep. 100% autonomous
My money would be on a salt water hybrid system coupled with advanced salt based battery tech.
American nuclear powered vessels > Chinese diesel-electric vessels. All day, every day.

One Chinese Destroyer can destroy ENTIRE US CARRIER FLEETS.
I strongly suggest you review some recent skirmishes between PLAN and USN:
- In Dec. 2023, China gave a high-profile commendation to the Chinese Navy (PLAN) Type 055 Nanchang ship. On Jan. 7, 2024, the PLA North Sea Fleet announced that in May 2022, with the cooperation of three satellites, the Nanchang ship *PARALYZED* the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and the CSG 3 through electronic warfare. (The USN's 2nd Fleet and 7th Fleet jointly create trouble around China, including: Ticonderoga-class CC, Arleigh Burke-class DD, AWACS squadron, reconnaissance squadron, and SPY-4A shipborne long-range air search radars) The Nanchang ship opened its missile silo, full tracking aiming and locking, _It is similar to putting a gun on the head of USS Abraham Lincoln_ (CVN-72) and the CSG 3. For 20 consecutive days, It single-handedly expelled USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and the CSG 3 eastward and out of the 'second island chain'. The PLAN currently has 10 Type 055 DDGs, and another 2 are being built. At present, the USN does not have the ability to suppress and strike electronic warfare through satellites.
- USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and the CSG are equipped with the most powerful CAW in the U.S. Military . The electronic warfare capabilities of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ)136 are nearly twice as strong as other VAQ, it also makes USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and the CSG in the most advanced position in the USN in terms of electronic warfare capability. In early December 2023, it suffered a disastrous defeat in an electronic warfare duel with Chinese electronic warfare aircraft in the South China Sea.
Afterwards, 21 Dec. 2023, it was confirmed through the official website of USNI confirmed that commanding officer of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136, Cmdr. William Coulter was relieved due to 'a loss of confidence in his ability to command'.
- on July 11 2023, An article in the US magazine "The War Zone" reported that USN intelligence confirmed that China's annual shipbuilding capacity is 232 times that of the U.S., reaching 23.2 million tons, while the U.S. only has 100,000 tons.
The founder of Anduril looks like stone cold flake but he's been three steps ahead on everything. Palmer Luckey is as close to a Tony Stark as we're going to get and he might be the one we need.

Ever since I read that China was encroaching on Filipino fishing lanes. I had wondered why we don't have drones. That would just shoot nets underwater and mess up the props Of the Chinese boats.

How are the batteries recharged? I missed that info, 100 hours, then what?
That part is secret
Probably Sterling engine and or hydrogen cells
I worked at a navy contractor where we developed an early version of this. This is over 10 years ago. We were using a hydrogen fuel cell to charge the batteries. Problem is you need oxygen for the process, so there was a snorkel that would get sent up and peek above the surface while the sub sat on the bottom impersonating a rock. I think that company lost the contract after I left. Our fearless leader was a jackass.
Also I forgot to mention that perhaps this version of the concept could use compressed oxygen tanks on board to power the fuel cell reaction. Thus not having to send up a snorkel.
Chinese Navy = US Navy from WISH. They have 400 BOATS, not ships m8.
400 targets. 400 future artificial-reefs.
Ukraine has no ships, they have very effective drone suicide boats.
The need for expansion of SPACE FORCE IS IN DIRE NEED AND NEEDS TO START YESTERDAY. THE US MILITARY KNOWS JUST WHAT TO DO. NO BULLING IS Necessary.
It's videos and information like this which keep me reminded that the greatest challenge to US defense is political & bureaucratic, with industry and the services constantly suffering from, and capacity consistently being attrited by, Congressional paralysis resulting from legislative & executive incompetence, malpractice, inconsistency & inefficiency.
US military tech and R&D is still years ahead of anybody else, but even that advantage is being slowly but surely chipped away by all the political gamesmanship & malfeasance that's resulted in perennially & perpetually repeating cycles of continuing resolutions, inconsistent programming, funding shortfalls, overbudget line items and constant shifts in focus & strategy, never allowing multi-year programs to receive full & on-time funding for any more than 6 months at a time and regularly considered for the chopping block for "lack of timeliness", which is caused by the exact same people criticizing the programs and regularly cutting or delaying their budgets.
Only once in the last 15 years has defense been fully funded without interruption for an entire fiscal year, with continuing resolutions forcing funding gaps & work stoppages for an **average** of 4-and-a-half months every single fiscal year, to say nothing of the fact that it has been over a quarter of a century since the last time there was a comprehensive long-term defense & industrial strategy for the country in place.
How can we expect industry and the services to keep up fully trained & adequately staffed workforces and minimally sufficient, efficient & effective supply chains when they're forced to spend more than a third of their time applying for funding waivers, appealing stop-work orders and operating on insufficient prior-year budgetary allowances instead of building out our defenses, and even then only when given express approval for a limited time period before having to repeat the process all over again each time the approved period expires and Congress still has not passed a full budget & appropriations bill, *EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR!?*
You make military procurement sound almost as dysfunctional as the civilian side of government.
@YoniBaruch-y3m Almost lol
Don’t forget the corruption level. Tofu.Dreg might be involved in the construction.
According to "The Tolkien Companion" of 1976. Anduril is the sword of Aragorn, it's name means "Sword of the West" it was re-forged by the Elven-smiths of Rivendell for use in the War of the Ring.
Oops, it means "Flame of the West", my bad, sorry.
It doesn't matter how many ships the Chinese push out. They wanted big numbers to impress the world so the ships are being rushed underpowered and under engineered many of which have sunk or had to be towed back on their maiden voyage!
Proves America is ready to lose another f35 in training...
He said China builds ships in half the time as America, Also half as good 😂 China is good at destroying reefs just as their naval shipyards are good at making future ones😂.❤️👍🇭🇲
Australia really is at the cutting edge of futuristic military technology, first the MQ-28 teaming strategy with F35 and now this…..is the US military industrial complex asleep?
China might just be wasting their time building a massive number of ships. 100 years ago countries were racing to build the biggest battleships the world had seen but in the space of just 25 years they were overshadowed by aircraft carriers, something that was inconceivable just a decade or two before. Who, 25 years ago, would have predicted the massive influence drones would have on the battlefield. War will always require men and women to fight but it seems the future maybe smaller unmanned weapons. As for China building unmanned subs, due to restrictions, they can’t produce or aquire the computer chips in the 5- 2nm range that AI requires. They can only produce chips in the 50-70 nm range. AI is certainly going to give the west a huge advantage on the battlefield along with well trained and battle hardened personnel. China has neither of these and it’s worth noting that Russia had massive amounts of personal and armour and expected to roll over Ukraine in a matter of weeks and here we are 3 years later and Russia is running out of both.
Anduril is not a "Silicon Valley Tech Startup". They are based out of LA
Except their HQ is in Costa Mesa, CA...
It was started with Silicon Valley Tech money, but tbey were wise enough to base themselves in what used to be the defense contractor mecca of Southern California.
It’s in Costa Mesa, which is in Orange County. It’s a common misconception that Los Angeles and Orange County are all the same, but they actually could not be more different. Los Angeles is extremely liberal whereas Orange County is extremely old money conservative and a very, very, passionate Trump-supporting county.
But how many hours can it sit, in sleep mode, on the ocean bottom waiting for a command.
Skynet is just around the corner. 😮
Skynet will change everything, forever. I remember people laughing at me on YT for proposing how close to it we actually are and the danger of AGI. Fewer are laughing these days...
Didn't you know that it already is. That's what China calls its satellite constellation.
Two things China is extremely good at, are Copying Designs, and Mass Producing rapidly.
WHAT is stopping the Chinese Tech Industries from adopting this very startegy and technology?
At the pace the Chinese industries operate, they could churn out such mini, all-electric, AI-powered submaries in a matter of days, if not hours.
Ask the Chinese why they sank their nuclear submarine. It's at the bottom near the docks.
@MichaelM-q2q You have indirectly answered your own statement.
The USA is moving forward with Electric Subs and reducing its heavy reliance on Nuclear Subs.
China could adopt the same strategy, and way faster.
There's a huge hole in this story: If the mission objective is for the vessel to remain continuously submerged, where does its electrical power come from? Does it have a huge battery that will power it for 1000 nautical miles? Has Andurial invented underwater solar panels? Is there a secret network of undersea charging stations you forgot to mention? We may never know..
A nuclear reactor provides steam, Steam turns a turbine, turbines provide rotational forces to generators, generators provide power to the propellers.
The reactor can run continuously for twenty years without refueling.
The only hole is in your head.
It’s better to sit quietly and be thought a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
DARPA’s Manta Ray is apparently experimenting with a variety of clever recharging methods for long endurance unmanned submarines. Who knows if these have been implemented in this system, or if there will be a way to integrate them at a later date.
They use sea water, a few wires and some potatoes 🥔 🎉 or in other words, the sacrificial plates in all that brine makes lots of wiggly amps😂
Not a hole at all! 1st thing Military tech is much further advanced than what is in the public sector so the batteries they use are far superior than what's in your Tesla! 2nd thing yes we have the technology to recharge batteries without the use of the sun, same concept as a sterling engine for just 1 example...
What about weapons? Does it carry any torpedoes?
I wondered about this. They didn’t mention any modules with torpedoes, missiles or mines. Presumably these could be developed and added later if the concept proves itself and the Navy starts buying them. As I understand it the US currently is reluctant to have fully autonomous AI make the decision to fire though - and with the extreme difficulty of transmitting underwater to a remote human who could authorize the firing putting an operator in the loop might not be practical. Mines might be the most practical solution here - just preprogram it to go to location X and drop mines. Alternatively they could just be used for scouting and targeting, though again the difficulty transmitting underwater might make this impractical.
But how long can it stay under water
Pig in a pipe 1993 revamped as underwater drone
Sea drones like the ones field have shown their capability. The Chinese have to worry about high sea-drones armed with Tomahawk TSAMs or TLAMs capable of launching a "peekaboo" shot outside anti-surface, and out of air defense or missile defense range.
Tomahawk. Slow and outdated.

the way that the ccp has enlarged there 'naval fleet' to such a high numerical level is by throwing a few huwan at commercial transporters each month, such that there rusty boats are on standby with an understanding that they are kept crewed, fuelled n lifejacketed should the government require them. otherwise going about there normal dubious n environmentally damaging commercial work. captains only too happy to take the 'free' mthly pmts

This is a push for more funding, but the idea of thousands of unmanned mosquitoes sucking the life out of an enemy is attractive when compared to one ship being taken down with 2 thousand hands lost. In the end, both will be needed...but with enough of them, you won't need repair/refit/refuel ships (coalers and oilers in olden times) to service them. and you can monitor everyone's actions. Eventually, you could make even cheaper suicide subs, cheap, loaded with explosive, like moveable depth charges or stealth torpedoes to lurk on the bottom blending in with the seabed, and then creeping up on shipping. Lots of diversity and lots of spin off ideas.
Palmer has come a long way since Oculus.

"Dozens per year." China's industrial capacity is larger than the US, UK, Germany, Japan and Russia combined. I'm thinking that dozens per year means that we better make nice-nice with the Chinese. Those are woefully inadequate numbers to fight a war against them.

Tofu Dreg Navy... China builds ships twice as fast that can do a quarter of the work as long as they stay out of blue water. When the US has to; we build at a speed unprecedented. Example: the size of the US Fleet only one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Until then, we keep the numbers at a steady boil. Heck, we could decide to bring a whole other fleet out of mothballs in a few months if pressed, or at least one helluva battle group.
Just because China has a lot of naval ships. Literally 100 more ships than the USA on its own this sounds scary. Then you realize China doesn't have a blue water navy! The US Navy's ship tonnage is double that of China funny thing is I don't know how that is possible! 😂😂 All this means is the ships don't go too far from home staying near shore. Basically, they can't cross oceans in meaningful numbers to "project" power. Also, I know they have some ships that can go into the open ocean and cross it but not many yet. They are a Green Water Navy which is sufficient for what they want and need.
After the debut of "autonomous" underwater weapons by the Ukraine it appears a new realm of naval warfare has opened up.
They will soon follow suit.
China struggles to field 1 carrier, Chinas stuff is poor quality copies.😂
Drones under water are just unbelievable mines with no chance of evading, put ten in each Chinese port because all Chinese vessels need fuel between this and manta surface fleet become obsolete
Hope the Chinese build better submarines than they do sidewalks. Can have all the ships in the world, only years of experience count. Not to worry all this talk about warfare, we are all to smart. We love our Chinese here in America.

Wow! It made it underwater for just over 4 whole days? What an amazing feat for a submarine. I'm in awe. An underwater machine able to be underwater for 4 whole days. Revolutionary!!! Can you just imagine if a fish could do that? An underwater animal able to stay submerged for 4 solid days IN A ROW??? Mind blowing. Next thing you know they will invent a land machine able to be on land for 4 days too! How aboat a boat able to float for 4 days without sinking? I don't think science is at a level able to do that yet.
Oh, wait...can't a rock manage to stay submerged for almost that long? Has this sub taken over the new record for staying underwater? This is like science fiction!
This is how you sink and invasion fleet.
