This was a concern on my 2001 Ford Ranger. I checked online and I stopped checking TH-cam since people say what you should repair but when you think about it like I did, 3,000 rpms seems a little funny to be doing constantly at a set RPM, so I took my truck out on the road and gave it a try in drive and no missing or cutting out, nice and clean at over 5,500 rpms. So just a simple test and now I see it's just the programing in the trucks computer that has a REV Limiter, problem solved without touching a thing...
I've read this on line e, smaller engines be limited to 3000 and larger to 4000, and some not at all, it is to the discretion of the manufacturer, but if you are unaware of it, It would seem like an issue, this is when In park.
Mine has always redlined at 5,000 rpm but just today my 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 started hitting limiter at 3,000rpm and it definitely feels like it’s misfiring.

So I had a problem with this on a 2002 Honda Civic SI hatchback a couple years ago. And it wouldn’t pass 4000. So I found out that the oil was low and I needed about one or 2 quarts. After that I was able to read line again so possible solution check your fluids.
I solve my problem I thought my Maf sensor was bad I just went ahead and got a new one that's good I had took out the 02 sensor from the front cat all my power came back even the car was moving forward good my suspicious is a clogged cat

I don't know, I just know the caravans have a rev limiter, and we have a 00 and 02 Monte carlos, and they will not rev past 3 grand in park also. But no problem when driving, so I am pretty sure rev limiters, and they are gm .
I have a Hyundai Sonata 2012 and it does the same thing when it gets to 2 rpm. It has a rev limiter but it limits the car at 4rpm. I woke up one day for college and my car wouldnt go up 2rpm even when running. It did the same sound that this car is doing but while running and it wouldnt go faster than 25 mph. I dont know what the problem is and ive looked everywhere for answers and no one knows what the problem is. Its been sitting for a month now.
This would not let the vehicle rev high in park, I got rid of it , was the worst vehicle I ever owned, I do not know why your car will not go over 25mph, maybe a transmission problem., I have come to belive best car to own, is Toyota, . And absolutely, the best is if you ever can get a low miles Toyota Carolla 2013, they are the best, and have a timing chain not a belt. Ya , do check your transmission fluid level, also my daughter had a Hyundai before, and it was driving terrible, and slow, and it was a frozen wheel bearing, good luck, hope you can solve the problem.

I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota V8 engine. Had a oil leak in it for the longest time in his been a headache fixing. Finally found the problem was the Cam sensor. Change doubt the camp sensor and now my angel will not read past 2500 rpm. It never did this before and what's worse it does it when I'm going down the road and makes the transmission shift radically. I've already had put A rebuilt transmission in. Some information was slightly informative but it doesn't explain why I didn't have this problem before and now I do. Don't know if it had anything with to do with my cruise control because it worked before in now does not. I've changed Cam sensor out 2 more times after that just to make sure and the throttle control sensor to boot and it still does it oil leaks fixed now this is just big pain in the ass.
I hated that dodge caravan , I will never own another chrysler, they suck. My kids have toyotas, and they go and go and go. I have a 2000 Monte carlo. And 2002 s10, . They are o.k. but still way more time spent on maintenance, then the toyotas, guess what my next car will be 😁😄, I like the 2013 corolla the best, pretty easy to work on, plan to look sometime down the road for one with low mileage
99 Jeep xj has this problem but the rev limiter is not suppose to be at 3000 rpm. It was hitting the rev limiter at 5500 but now driving down the road it won’t go over 3

If you notice your cars tach redlines at 6000 rpm for safety of the engine while driving. While in park there may be a rev limit no load. in drive when u floor it it should zip to 5500 to 6000 and shift. my GTP shifts at 6400..wild

Had same problem... it was my cam shaft sensor. Check the plug too, sometimes they wiggle out of place if the clip has been broken in the past. Revs past 3000 now. Not a gov issue. How are you supposed to accelerate on to the highway if it wont rev up, video makes no sense.
Go on internet, and look it up , it is very easy to find out about, it will not let you rev past 3000 in park or neutral , but in drive is no problem, you have very poor listening skills.

I hav a 2012 caravan I disconnected the battery to work on the motor.It wouldn't rev past 3000 unti I drove it and the ECU rebooted.After that when idling you could rev it as high as you want.

My explorer 4.0 does the same at 3500 but I noticed something strange. When the ac is on it revs to 3500 and keeps bouncing there whereas with ac off it revs and holds perfectly at 3500. Y tho??

I watch a lot of stuff on youtube, and I was watching a video a nun put up about miracles, and she starts about them, she had gone on a pilgrimage, when she got back to usa she says she was happy to see her dodge carravan, I said out loud, that's a miracle, but as fast as I said it, she went on to say , it was now over heating leaking oil, Trans fluid, and not drivable, she junked it, and was so blessed that a person donated a used Toyota van to het, Amen. I ain't making it up. The 3000 rev thing, I got from a Chrysler forum, and they said 8cyl were 4000 when in park, but man I sure catch flak on this. I am gonna get the nun to pray for me. @@09smartin1 if it’s hitting a limiter before it’s shifting gears assuming it’s automatic, the car is most likely in limp mode. On my 3.5 Chrysler 300 it was caused from one tooth jumping the timing belt. If you went full throttle it’ll limit at 3500 when warm. When it was cold it’ll rev past 6k

My 2005 Honda Accord misfires only at 3rpm I’ve changed ignition coils spark plugs cleaned the egr put new spark plugs. And still having the problem if anyone knows why please let me know
Just a guess ,valve sticking, if you mean a backfire , or it could be constent, but is most audible at 3000, I have a car that does this, it has low compression in one cylinder. It is a valve for sure, 8cyl, car , I do not drive often, so I live with it. Do a compression check. On youtube plenty of videos of how to do this test .
Late reply; as I just now saw both comments. I had inadvertently connected the vtec wire harness to the crank shaft position sensor and vise versa. At least I think those were the two I mixed up; it’s been a while now; I am much better at properly labeling things I take apart.
Thanks Joshua, it is well documented on the internet, for some reason a lot of people have given me a hard time about this video. I think they do not listen very well. Lots of vehicles have this built into them today.
They will not rev past 3000 in park, is built in that way at the factory, I have also a 2000 and a 2002 Chevrolet Z Monte Carlos, they do exact same thing, but rev to 4000 rpm.
Ponti Maniac my car sometimes draws very well and exhausts the gas to the end with full power, so long as the gas gets to the end with a weak power and sometimes it does not exceed 3000 rpm if you know something please tell me

@@rilindhaliti4121 I looked your car up, it says that it does come with a rev limiter, so it should not rev past 3000 in park, but, if you have trouble with it , as it is not letting the engine to breath properly, the internet said, that if a check engine enables light is on, could very well be the cam sensor, now if no check engine light is on, then could be a bad, catalytic converter, hope this helps you out.

Everything you said is helpful and good and true, and with all the decades I've worked on my own vehicles I did not realize my car had an RPM governor when it was in park or neutral. I test drove it and took it into passing gear and went up to five grand, all is good. Your video is great and it really helped me.

Most modern cars when in neutral will limit the revs, if you put it in gear and try it - the rev limiter will turn off.

It's called a rev limiter. My Ford Taurus only revs up to 4,000 in park, put in drive and I have seen up to 5,500 rpm while accelerating.

Not a problem. It's built in at factory. So you do not over Rev the car and hurt the engine. Rev limiter.

you can bypass the 3k limit just warm the van up and it will rev past 3k and if u put it between park and reverse and you can rev up to 6k

My 09 Pontiac G6 doesn't rev past 4k I thought something was wrong. My 08 Mazda 3 could red line so I guess it's American thing right 😅

I hav a 2012 caravan I disconnected the battery to work on the motor.It wouldn't rev past 3000 unti I drove it and the ECU rebooted.After that when idling you could rev it as high as you want.
Yea, I've got a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan Lemon. You're definitely right about dodge being total shit I'll never buy anything dodge again. Al Bundy would be very disappointed. Sometimes mine revs only up to 3000rpms and sometimes it will rev up to 4000rpms. Both of those readings are when the transmission is in park. What make the difference? If its governed at 3000rpm, its governed at 3000rpm and wouldnt allow another resting reading at 4000rpm. I believe something else is happening and that it's not just a governed motor.

I do not know about your vehicle. For the dodge caravan they come from the factory like this. So you will not over rev them when in park or neutral .

This is actually true I was scared because my Dodge charger RT was not revving past 4000 RPM while it was parked then after seeing this video I drove it ran past 4000 like nothing

My explorer 4.0 does the same at 3500 but I noticed something strange. When the ac is on it revs to 3500 and keeps bouncing there whereas with ac off it revs and holds perfectly at 3500.

That makes sence , the a/c is making the engine work harder, I love my a/c, but it does use horsepower, and gasoline.

The Caravan does that when the engine is cold. Once it warms up enough, the limiter moves to 4,000 RPM.
I laugh at some these people and I know not everyone knows cars but in park it’s called a limiter it keeps you from revving it past a certain rpm in my car it’s 4K rpm there’s nothing wrong with the car it’s just a limiter it’s normal.
Probably a clogged catalytic converter, tap it with a hammer and see if you hear loose stuff in there like gravel.

I watch a lot of stuff on youtube, and I was watching a video a nun put up about miracles, and she starts about them, she had gone on a pilgrimage, when she got back to usa she says she was happy to see her dodge carravan, I said out loud, that's a miracle, but as fast as I said it, she went on to say , it was now over heating leaking oil, Trans fluid, and not drivable, she junked it, and was so blessed that a person donated a used Toyota van to het, Amen. I ain't making it up. The 3000 rev thing, I got from a Chrysler forum, and they said 8cyl were 4000 when in park, but man I sure catch flak on this. I am gonna get the nun to pray for me. , yes, do look it up on the net. Chrysler rev limiter. I get taken all the time at auto repair places, I do all that I can, but, can not do it all, I have to go to the dealer soon, am putting it off, but , they will get me, and will be a big bite $$$$$😢

in drive it should go past 5000 rpm without bucking. If it has a high rpm limiter it will shut cylinders off at redline
If it’s in park it’s the rev limiter. Engine with no load shouldn’t be spun at high rpms.
What if your accelerating on highway
@@09smartin1 if it’s hitting a limiter before it’s shifting gears assuming it’s automatic, the car is most likely in limp mode. On my 3.5 Chrysler 300 it was caused from one tooth jumping the timing belt. If you went full throttle it’ll limit at 3500 when warm. When it was cold it’ll rev past 6k

My 2005 Honda Accord misfires only at 3rpm I’ve changed ignition coils spark plugs cleaned the egr put new spark plugs. And still having the problem if anyone knows why please let me know
Just a guess ,valve sticking, if you mean a backfire , or it could be constent, but is most audible at 3000, I have a car that does this, it has low compression in one cylinder. It is a valve for sure, 8cyl, car , I do not drive often, so I live with it. Do a compression check. On youtube plenty of videos of how to do this test .

I had inadvertently connected the vtec wire harness to the crank shaft position sensor and vise versa. At least I think those were the two I mixed up; it’s been a while now; I am much better at properly labeling things I take apart.
My van does same thing in park but will redline going in drive this guy is absolutely right
Thanks Joshua, it is well documented on the internet, for some reason a lot of people have given me a hard time about this video. I think they do not listen very well. Lots of vehicles have this built into them today.

They will not rev past 3000 in park, is built in that way at the factory, I have also a 2000 and a 2002 Chevrolet Z Monte Carlos, they do exact same thing, but rev to 4000 rpm.
Ponti Maniac my car sometimes draws very well and exhausts the gas to the end with full power, so long as the gas gets to the end with a weak power and sometimes it does not exceed 3000 rpm if you know something please tell me

@@rilindhaliti4121 I looked your car up, it says that it does come with a rev limiter, so it should not rev past 3000 in park, but, if you have trouble with it , as it is not letting the engine to breath properly, the internet said, that if a check engine enables light is on, could very well be the cam sensor, now if no check engine light is on, then could be a bad, catalytic converter, hope this helps you out.
I junked this vehicle May 8th 2019, was the worst vehicle I ever had, got 207 bucks, drove it in, bad head, They are very problematic, am so glad to be rid of it.

Dude this is such an excellent video, I really appreciate it. Please ignore the people saying get to the point and such. Everything you said is helpful and good and true, and with all the decades I've worked on my own vehicles I did not realize my car had an RPM governor when it was in park or neutral. I test drove it and took it into passing gear and went up to five grand, all is good. Your video is great and it really helped me.
