  • How I created the drum sound that relentlessly drive the film Mad Max Fury Road. I talk about the kind of drums I used and show you how I program them. I show you the customized Native Instruments Kontakt sampler we created and talk about velocity, higher and lower octaves and a bunch of other drum related topics.

    The thing around 5:40 with the velocities mapped to keys is really interesting. I've never realised before what a pain it is to edit note velocities. Maybe drum samplers and sequencers should offer a view like this.

      Andy Brice Never seen that before. Brilliant!

    • @Gzaytleo
      @Gzaytleo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      +Andy Brice weeeell, cubase allows you to do the same thing with velocity values essentially, just box select all notes and then grab the top of the velocity box and you can move them while still keeping the internal structure. since he mentioned 120 samples, and velocity having 127 values, he could still fit all of them into the velocity. i don't really see the reason for doing this, unless you for some reason feel that you respond more creatively to this layout, or if you at some point want to add more layers than the 127 for velocity, you could have 127*amount of midi notes, but that's just extreme overkill.

    This drum technique makes so much sense. To just change velocity on a single sample makes it louder or softer, but it doesn't change the tonality or the ambience of the sound. Even with velocity switching, you can't get such a wide variation while maintaining precision. But by mapping so many individually recorded samples across the keyboard, the MIIDI velocity can be kept static, while the variations in sound truly mimic a real drummer on a real drum. @junkiexlofficial, I tip my hat to you.

      Well, then work harder so that you can get access to them.
      People like JunkieXL are professionals of what they do because they themselves put the time and effort to become so. They're not doing this as a hobby - it's their JOB. A job is to make money; to earn a living.
      How would you like it if you spent YEARS to polish your work, and then people just take it from you? If everyone on the Internet is creating the same kind of content as professionals (not exactly to their level, but to some extent), why would people invest their money on their content? People would, but the amount of people will decline because the market is so saturated.
      Come on, it's a blessing that we even get these kind of content break up videos!
      People these days take things for granted.

Apparently he does use 5 to 6 VSL remote servers with VEP, but I would love to hear more about it (models, specs, if he only use Ethernet or if finally bounce back audio with some MADI or so)? I know it's very specific question, and from all videos I saw so far, I haven't found anything... which is sad because I really really love his setup and the way he works.

For instance, with some work, you can get pretty similar sound with the 8Dio epic percussion series and HZ percussion.
