    One of the best movies I saw ever.
    It would take a nice effort to express it with words, so I'll just leave at that;
    One of the best movies I saw. Ever.

    This movie was a masterpiece. I love vampire movies, but I've seen a lot of bad ones, so I was very skeptical and ready to hate it if ai needed to, but, man, my god, I'm genuinely saying it became an obsession and my new favorite movie. It's really, truly, beautiful art, and Tilda and Tom really played the hell outta those roles. The characters really felt like real people. ❤

    This new dimension of the film felt very real. I got absorbed in the conversations. Jarmusch exhibited compassion and love in creating an alternate view of their lifestyle.

    Watching this film you can immediately feel how much thought, intuition, emotion went into it. It is artsy, it is crafty, it is freeform and it is true to life, as far as it gets when it comes to being a vampire tale.
    It really explores what it is like to be human, to be craving, and also what it is like to be immortal but neither invulvnerable nor invincible, merely having a long view perspective, how it could disconnect you from the moment but also connect you to the eternal, and invite you to take a closer glance at nuances instead of rushing through moments regardless.
    It explores what it would be like to strip away the flimsyness of reactive surface level impulses and to follow only your deepest passions and really suck out the marrow of life.
    A masterpiece movie!

    These two are real, true artists- you can tell they really thought through ever detail and nuance in the film, and that sensitivity really comes across in the final cut. So refreshing in an industry filled with Michael Bey clones.

    This movie is the rage in Paris, France. March '14. I have many close personal friends of Jarmusch and actors, and am from Cleveland. I am so proud of him and everyone else who supported this film. It is amazing. I saw it in Paris last night and you had to peel me off the floor for my delight. Thank to you all involved with this project. This is going to be a huge, huge smash in the USA I feel. I recommend everyone see this big screen ASAP. Thank you so much for posting this. Uprated. Please people, see this in a movie theatre.

      What a pity! It was held over here in Paris, where it premiered. They also held over BLUE JASMINE, and TAKE SHELTER got a lot of interest and I saw it here. I definitely don't like all of Jarmusch's stuff, but some I really love. This movie also has wonderful music. It fired my imagination, and I thought of it actively for days after. I'm glad I saw it big screen. Very crowded cinema for that, even last showing on a weekday night. Very good dialogue in this one, too. "You drank Ian!" and so on. :)

    I only have 2 critiques:
    1. Rob Pattinson wasn't here.
    2. Wesley Snipes should have been asked more questions.
    Lmao. No, but seriously tho, damn this movie ought to be remembered and given more recognition. It unseated Cloud Atlas to become my favorite movie of all time, and I never thought a movie could top Cloud Atlas. It's really special and I'd love a sequel.
    I can play one of the side characters. Pay me in pretzels, idc! More!

      Great to see more people who like Cloud Atlas, because that movie is so good, but seriously not so appreciated much.
      Only Lovers Left Alive is my favourite movie too, these days. Such great cast and cinematography is just perfect.

    27:51 Eve is 3,000 years old and Adam is 500. Their age is never directly mentioned in the film so it's interesting to know the backstory.

      Monique Schramm Smoke actually wasn't a Jim Jarmusch film he just had a film stealing scene in it. It feels like it should have been his film though had so many of the same qualities, Blue in the Face as well.

    I will keep his sentence about letting the movie speaks to him forever. Do not try to overanalyse, just follow the heart, instinct, feelings or whatever and that way, you will end up being a happy human being and touched by movies.

  • @TinyEpics

    Regarding 11:00 - actually all of the vampire lore Jim mentions here have existed for a long time.
    Bram Stoker for instance drew upon old eastern European superstitions for his Count Dracula in the late 19th century and mentions fangs, the crucifix, holy water, garlic, and having to be invited in.
    All the things he says were later added have been part of vampire lore very early on and likely descend from very ancient superstition.
    Anyway, OLLA is a fantastic film and Tilda is magnificent in it.

    I love the way Jim struggles to rationalize the humanesque evolution of Vampires? How does one go about explaining the very nature of something that has never existed, Like a theoretical physicist explaining something like the Big Bang, knowing very well it may have never even existed

    If I focus only on Jarmusch and Swinton, I enjoy hearing their interaction with the crowd. But this interviewer on stage is horrible - she can't ask a question without a "uhm..." and then she can't repeat a question asked accurately.

      That would have taken away the whole essence and beauty of the film. Sometimes films need to set apart themselves from conventionalisms just to sell more.

    • @GimmeShelter1989
      @GimmeShelter1989 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awaken dabeast apparently there was and when he was asked to add more he removed all of the action from the film. I think it would have taken power away from the ending but I would really love to see that 30 minutes of deleted footage he speaks about here.

    As a presentation of genuinely cool characters, I don't like this movie.
