    Samsung OLED a JOKE in 2024? - S90D & Don’t Buy S95D
According to reports it looks like the QD OLED panel lottery is going to be happening again with the Samsung S90D and the QD OLED S95D will be equipped with a matte finish leading to a worse overall image in my opinion making Samsung very difficult to recommend in 2024 when it comes to new TVs. Samsung Display makes incredible... well, displays. In fact I believe that the S90C is the best TV you can buy in 2024. It's just a shame that Samsung Electronics is applying to a matte coating to the S95D and not clearing up what panels will be used in the S90D. For this reason I cannot as of now recommend the S90D or S95D QD OLED TVs.

The weird thing is, QD OLEDS have shit blacks in anything but a completely dark room. Even just a dimly lit room no w/ direct light on the screen raises the blacks. Defeating the purpose of not only OLED, but glossy w/ OLED. Not to mention how easy they micro scratch.
Until they fix that, matte is king. At least for monitors.

Just a rumor right now, I will believe it when I see it I talked about this on my last stream but I really don't see this happening here (other countries you never know they all have different decision makers) but Samsung would be making a huge mistake if they go this route and it would be an absolute disaster for the S90D if this happens, you cannot have a QD-OLED and W-OLED panel lottery that would be terrible and if they do it, the outcome won't be pretty.

It will take a few months for reviews to happen on all the different product model numbers, at which point we should know which ones are qd-oled and which are w-oled based on product codes.
However, the bait and switch method is now available to use by some retailers, with usually leads to consumers sometimes still being duped. i.e. A retailer puts a 55" S90D on their website, it says it's the QD-OLED product code, and is supplied with QD-OLED for a few months, then W-OLED's are swapped in, and the website is never updated. Consumer buys one thing, gets the other.
This happens far to often for computer ram sticks, and I now expect the same to happen here.
The only way to prevent being duped now, is to go in store, and see the tv in question, and then actually checking the box that they will give you, to know it's the correct product code.

  • @loki76

The S95D I doubt would be affected because they cannot reach the level of brightness using a WOLED without MLA. It would be stuck at 800-900 nits when an S95D is marketed as 20% brighter than S95C. Or even if the same. They hit up to 1300 nits or more.
But S90D series could be affected. But somehow I don't think it will happen in some markets like NA and maybe EU.

The only thing I don't do is play the same game for months or watch the news. Burn in is cumulative. You won't get burn in from displaying an image all day like you could on a Plasma. You have to be coninuously doing it for at least a month. If you watch the news 1 hour a day that have the same static elements in the same place, you will be get burn in. It might take 6 months or even 1 year but it will happen. You should never buy an OLED if you're someone who leaves the news running in the background everyday.

    - You: I want a QD-OLED TV.
    - Samsung: You must get the S95D.
    - You: But it is not glossy and I prefer panels with that finish.
    - Samsung: Glossy is bad, you're wrong, we're right. We're making you a favor here. Buy S95D.
    - You: I'm fine, I'll get the S90D because it's glossy.
    - Samsing: Ha! We've mixed pannels and you don't know which one you'll get.
    - You: So, I cannot have 100% guaranteed a 2024 QD-OLED tv with glossy finish. Is that right?
    - Samsung: Yes. Either you accept our mate finish or you'll play the lottery with S90D.

If you were rich , just enjoy your money , panel lottery is not illegal , Samsung is just saying OLED . It's happened for decades in Monitors . Happens with lots of things with solely regard to where manufactured - ie maybe the Thai factory produces a better product than the Chinese one . Least with that should be on box. With these TVs check one in store and examine pixel structure with zoom on phone.Happened with some Nintendo hand holds - some got lucky an got an OLED . If samsung say QD-OLED then that is what you should get . Sometimes with products gen 1 is built better than gen2 ( now how cheap can we build it , what's the minimum copper , PSU on this machine whatever it is ) . Yeah sucks . Legal action is expensive and you would lose and have pay their legal costs - and they will hit you hard . Saying that a good lawyer should tell you not to waste your money . A bed one will take your money - Lawyers have to give good advice , does not mean they will

They basically (force) people to buy their new products who have literally nothing new to offer apart from some minor changes here and there, but the majority of people unfortunately still continue to believe that their actually buying something new and better when in reality their buying the same exact product. So what they actually did was to invent a strategy which includes (updates) and those (updates) are completely changing the system and the hardware of your product when they're planning to launch the (new stuff), and BAAAMM!! Your product will never be the same again to point of making you feel like it's outdated or defective, just to make you want to upgrade on their (new model), which translates to 2.500 dollars 💵 each year. So I suppose you can imagine that if you make the calculations by multiplying that number for thousands of times for each hypothetical individual, well it will make a few billion dollars 💵 for each of those companies, and job's done my friend, that's how they roll and we can't do nothing about that apart from stopping the (upgrades) every time they're launching a new model. As long as DSE and all kinds of problems like banding, blotches on black etc exist... I'll never buy another tv. We should not accept it but they kindda force us to accept it.
I returned 2 Samsung's until i asked for a total refund and then 3 LED's Sony's of the same model, the second was just as ugly as the first one, the 3rd one was good...... for 2 months until big spot of purple'ish DSE (more visible on gray, and not visible at all on bright scene) appears out of nowhere, for no reasons. I've found a way in to make it invisible with Advanced color settings of dark scenes, I have to lower the colors (RBG) on dark scenes. It doesn't affect the colors in bright scene, just dark scene (where there's more chances to see the DSE spot. When it's dark but a little bit of light) It's a compromise, i have less colors in dark scene BUT i don't see the DSE spot. For exemple, TH-cam background is solid grey, after my setting in advanced colors settings, the background is black.. So i don't see the spot but yes, Dark scene are darker than they should be but i prefer that than seeing an ugly spot. I didnt returned it because i was exhausted of the return process and that's what they want. I'll never buy another Sony product tho, they lost me forever. I use tvs mostly for gaming, Instead of returning my tv, i bought a 32'' 4k 144hz gigabyte monitor in case my tv ruins my gaming experience in some games. there's a liiitle bit of DSE on it but very very light, so i kept it. It's never perfect but with the hard earned money we put on this, It should be perfect. People who are not sensible to DSE are blessed, i'm VERY sensible to it, I can see it 30m far away and i see it without even concentrating. It jumps to my eyes and it's a curse.

Honestly, My experience with Samsung TVs is the worst I’ve had with any company. First TV, Dead just over year. Second, dead in just under 2, so I had it repaired since I took out extended warranty. It then broke again, a month later, then 2 months after, until the insurance company wrote it off. Poorly made products, with a premium price tag.

    • @floz9718
      @floz9718 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Yes you can, it's the exact same panel and processor. Sure they're might be some other components in there which are different but it's very unlikely that those cause any trouble while handling a little more current and heat (in fact, if anything the S90C is better in terms of handling heat since it doesn't have that ridiculous thin build) Still, I would only recommand the mod if you don't plan on keeping your TV for 5+ years and if you are ok with voiding your warranty.

This is nothing new btw, panel lottery has been a problem with tvs since the moment they started selling flat screens. Your sentiment on monitor vs tv industry is actually the opposite to my experience, but at the end of the day these companies only care about their investors/margins so we are basically comparing a poop to a turd.
There have been anti-trust cases on this issue, but they have proved to be unfruitful.
Btw my comments on matte vs glossy had nothing to do with defending any of these companies, I just prefer a more pragmatic view, though ive since sampled a gr95qe and I'm pragmatically gonna agree on the sentiment that it does indeed look like vaseline lol. It goes back to the margins thing, the coating they used just looks very cheap, like im supposed to peel it off. Maybe it looks worse because if the RWGB subpixel layout, but its probably cost cutting why its this bad.
I have no idea if this is true, but I'm thinking the coating is gonna be similar to the Frame TVs. The Frame looks better than the LGs for sure, though it is very matte. I could live with it but I dont think you could. Those Paperlike screenprotectors for iPads are another example potentially.

It's funny that you say not to buy the S95D because of the matt coating.... that's the number one biggest feature for me! I currently have an LG OLED and the reflections drive me insane. I spend most of my time just staring at a reflection of my wifes car, and no I don't want to close the curtains just so that I can watch the TV during the day.
Before my LG I had a Sony with a Matt display and whilst technically the display was no way near as good as the LG (The Sony was pre-OLED and only HD, not even UHD!), I can honestly say that my viewing experience on that TV was far superior.

S90C is brighter than S95C for 25% and 50% window :shocking:
S90C has much better sound than S95C :shocking:
S90C has better HDMI inputs :shocking:
S90C has a cleaner panel than S95C with less DSE, equal to S95B. With S95C you can have bad uniformity and dead pixels
S90C has a beefier power supply
    S90C has less ABL
S90C is more accurate OTB than S95C
    S90C has 3.5mm jack
S90C and S95C don't have any processing, they are just monitors with a built-in TV tuner, QN90C has much better processing. The best Samsung processing is in the 8K lineup. They didn't put any processing into S90C/S95C because the panel is so good that it doesn't need it.
S95C exists only if you want One Connect Box
S90C/S95C has an "out of focus" look to them, like the picture is out of focus, mostly because of the shape of the pixels.
S90C/S95C both look like the best LCD but without any blooming. Only LG OLED looks like an OLED, like seeing though a window.
For the first time Samsung will use processing and that will be on S95D and it will be the processing from QN90C 4K.
