BRILLIANT, thank you! It's the first time I've actually seen anyone clearly show what this sodding hub looks like. I was getting concerned, because I couldn't find any information about telephone connection (green) on the SH3, or whether BT's digital voice adapters (which connect via DECT) work with it. But since it's really identical, I guess there's a good chance all that will still work the same. I'm going to have to make the switch soon, have a rather convoluted arrangement at the moment, and dreading phoning BT to ask about it ;-)

This is just the EE branded version of the BT Smart Hub 2, however the TH-camr thinks it is the newer Smart Hub 3.
For it to be the newer Smart Hub 3, that would need the TH-camr to have received the EE Smart Hub Plus.

BT Digital Voice is the exact same as EE Digital Home Phone, if you have BT Digital Voice on BT Smart Hub 2, then it will still work on EE Smart Hub or Smart Hub Plus.
If wanting to use BT branded digital phones on EE, then you'll just need to register the base units to the EE Smart Hub or Smart Hub Plus.

I now have one of these rubbishy routers when 'Digital Voice' was foisted on me at the end of my BT contract. You can't see the central light unless you look from the side. It's much taller than the old BT hub so it has to lie on its back to get it under my TV stand. The digital adapter which enables you to connect your old telephone is useless. It won't work unless it's in the same room as the router and keeps dying. A replacement is no better. If you plug the phone into the back of the router, it shows the calling number, but not the stored contact details. As a retired BT engineer, I am not impressed!

Digital Voice is a big reason to avoid BT for Broadband in my opinion. It's so badly implemented.

thanks for the review. The fact that its essentially the same as SH2 shows lack of innovation from BT, The Smart Hub Plus Wifi 6 seems to only be available on the EE FTTP 900 package. It seems like Sky also require an extra fee for their Wifi 6 max router.

Hi , excellent video. I'm not very good with computers, but would it be possible if you could do a full video on the smart hub manager on each of the tabs including the advanced settings. And also show how to import contacts into the Hub. If this is possible that would be much appreciated.

Hi thanks I have a question. I have received this hub as moved from BT to EE. although my old BT smart hub type A is still working fine.

@GlowPickForSale I'm paying 15 quid a month for our 2 family sims, so £7.50 a piece, which gets us unlimited minutes + texts and 15GB doubled up to 30GB as we're on Halo 3.
We still use our landline quite a lot too, or 'digital voice' as it's called now, which is on a legacy package so costs about £1.90 a month for unlimited to landlines and 1000 minutes to BT mobile.
We'd lose all that moving over to EE, not to mention we've got 3 BT Alexa phones for the landline that don't fully function with anything but the BT smart hub 2.
They tried to shove me over to EE but I dug my heels in and weren't having it. I re-contracted our Fibre 500 with Halo 3 for another 2 years at the same price I've paid for a few years now.
Halo 3 lets you re-contract anytime so I do it mid March every single year which avoids the annual price rise 😉

Why is there both a 'broadband' socket and a 'wan' socket? The instructions say to use the broadband socket but the installation guy set mine up using the wan socket. Is there a way to turn the wan socket into a 4th ethernet socket?

BT has been giving out Business Hub 3 for quite a while now, they were starting to be sent out all before EE introduced Smart Hub, their equivalent of BT Smart Hub 2, or Smart Hub Plus, their equivalent of BT Smart Hub 3.

    • @saiamuk

Ah interesting, I really need something better than SH2 to max the opportunity from BT Full Fibre 900 package

    • @GS-lu2zu
      @GS-lu2zu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@saiamuk if you went for EE 1.6gb tier, then you'll get sent the Smart Hub Plus (EE equivalent to BT Business Hub 3 with WiFi6 etc).
However, to best utilise the fibre connection, then you are better suited to purchase a third party router and use that instead of the supplied hub.
If you look on BT Community or EE Community, either of those forums have many posts about using third party routers instead of the BT or EE hubs.
For those on either BT or EE 1gb tier (900), you'll only get the BT Smart Hub 2 or the EE Smart Hub (which is shown in this video).
If you have BT Digital Voice or EE Digital Home Phone, then you are locked into using supplied hubs only, as the phones need to connect to the hub.

    • @GS-lu2zu
      @GS-lu2zu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Third party router is needed if you go for the 1.6gb tier as the hub is still 1gb ethernet.
They only supply a new ONT with a 2.5gb WAN.
So, if you need a connection over 1gb for whatever purpose, then you'll need a third party router with at least 2.5gb ethernet ports.
They claim you can get 1.6gb, but with EE Smart Hub Plus, that is split over the connections and not just each separate port.
Lots of discussion on BT forum about this as many expecting the new hub to have at least 2.5gb LAN ports too, as well as the 2.5gb WAN port only.
Good few years now new mobos have had 2.5gb LAN ports, however BT still think that all their customers will never be wanting anything over 1gb.

The white box being the one you can see in the box at 4:43 ? If so.. that is an ADSL filter.
If you went for full fibre broadband then you would not use the filter.. instead a cable would go from the RED labeled network port to the "ONT" (Openreach white box with blinking lights on it) on your wall.

This is not a Smart Hub 3 😂
You clearly not know what you are talking about 😂
For starters, the BT Smart Hub 3 has been available for a good few months now, however the BT Smart Hub 3 is only available to those on BT Business.
The TH-camr here has just been sent a EE branded Smart Hub 2, which is just their branded version of the exisiting BT Smart Hub 2.
If the TH-camr actually wanted to review EE's version of the Smart Hub 3, then they needed to have got sent the Smart Hub Plus.
The Smart Hub Plus is EE equivalent of the BT Business Hub 3.
It uses WiFi 6, it still has 1gb ethernet ports and if you upgrade to EE highest tier of 1.6gb, you will also get a new ONT box installed as it uses a 2.5gb WAN port.
This TH-camr clearly did not do any research as BT are moving all consumers to EE and the different versions of EE Smart Hub and Smart Hub Plus have been common knowledge for many months now.
The TH-camr has just been sent EE branded Smart Hub 2 and just assumed that they had got the latest model.
Clearly misleading anybody who has viewed this, sadly the TH-camr claims to know but infact doesn't know.
Next time, do research before posting and making a fool of yourself 😂

The video or the router (or both) :) ? I'm happy with either answer.. but would be nice to know which.

Got everythung set up except for phone connector.
Just keeps flashing and won't see hub for pairing. Anyone else have similar problem and how to fix it?

You hold down the WPS / pairing button on the hub until it's light starts flashing, then you press OK on the phone BT supplied? (It has to be a stupid digital voice phone, not just any old phone you had spare).
