- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC compact luxury SUV.
The GLC has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 48-volt mild hybrid system, it gets a combined 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada, but there is a RWD model available in the US.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC offers such a comfortable drive, the suspension is quite refined, it provides better ride quality, agile handling, improved noise comfort with very low road and wind noise compared to the outgoing model. Mercedes-Benz says the GLC has also improved off-road with several new features and systems including an off-road driving mode and downhill speed regulation.
The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC remains the same width as the outgoing model, but is over 2 inches longer and lower with improved aerodynamics.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC comes standard with LED high performance headlamps and LED taillamps, 19” wheels, available 20” and a temporary spare tire. In the US, 18” wheels are standard. Choose different exterior packages to make it look sportier like the AMG Line with Night package which we have on our test model, it features AMG body-styling, a chrome star patterned grille, black exterior accents and AMG wheels.
Standard features include, a 11.9” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 12.3” digital driver display, wireless charger, over-the-air software updates, heated, power front seats with memory, heated steering wheel and a power tailgate.
Fuel economy, the new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC gets 10.4L/100 km, 23 MPG city and 9.1L/100 km, 31 MPG highway. It can tow almost 3300 pounds.
In Canada, there is just one trim, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 starts at $58,900 CAD.
In the US, there are a few more trims, the RWD 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC model starts at $47,100 USD and the AWD model $49,100 USD, Exclusive $51,350 USD and Pinnacle $53,550 USD.
The AMG GLC 43 with 416 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque will hit dealerships Q1 of 2024.
The AMG GLC 63 S E Performance with a combined 671 horsepower and 752 lb-ft hits dealerships Q3 of 2024. It is the first AMG performance hybrid SUV.

This is one of the most refined car reviews I’ve ever seen!
Great review. I have an X3, and very happy with it. But tempted. Thank you Otto and Andrea!
Great review as always Andrea and Zak!
I agree with Zak… the six cylinder models are the ones to go for but wow my god the prices!! I think they are 60% more now than what I paid for my 2013 X3 35i
Really dislike the current German insistence on using the screen for HVAC controls. It's not more premium it's cheaper for them to put it behind a screen over using quality knobs and buttons!
True!
Not to mention distracting
Facts when I’m driving to work I adjust my AC like 10 times 😅
Yes. It's a stupid design. HVAC and Sound should be regualr ROTARY knobs. I'm not interested in stuffing around in menus to adjust basic critical functions. That is the exact opposite of the ergonomics that Mercedes places such emphasis on from the late 60's thru the early 2000's.
💯
For awhile, in the 80s, my parents drove a Mercedes-Benz 300SD Sonderklasse (a diesel W126 S-Class). I’ve always wanted a Mercedes (once close with a well used ‘03 SL55 AMG). I think that almost all of their designs have aged well (style/design-wise) over the decades. At least… better than most. And even though I can’t see a Benz in my driveway in the near future, I really appreciate them on the roads. Nothing really looks like a Mercedes-Benz. And this latest model is no different… which is a good thing. Thanks for the video.
Great review as always
Another exceptional review!
Love your reviews and commentary. A separate question. In driving of Subarus, do you find any difference in manufacturing quality between US and Japanese built vehicles? Thank you lucky folks in BC.
Love it !!! ❤👍 thx guys! 🙏👏
Just put 1200kms after only owning it for 2 weeks. An absolutely machine for the road trips. So fun around the BC back roads
So great to hear, thanks for sharing! Enjoy your new GLC.
Wondering if there is any difference in driving and braking responsiveness/feedback/smoothness due to Hybrid system as I've experienced in other mild hybrid / PHEV vehicles, such as the new c-class.
I own this 2023 GLC since 2 weeks now, coming from a 2020 C43.
3 additions to this video from an owners pov:
- My average combined consumption is around 8.0l/100km in comfort mode.
- The off-road package is actually real and working, as opposed to most other SUV’s. Mercedes has huge army contracts here in Europe, and it’s where they get their knowledge from.
- In terms of rims; I got the full AMG package model which came with 20” AMG rims as standard. I’m getting a lot of compliments on those, and it might just be the region you are ordering from.
Good review ! Thanks.
But I think the looks is totally different from the previous generation, especially back side.
Also the ride quality is improved considerably.
Have any idea about reliability if comparing to other compact luxury cars ?
Love the humor. It is “refined.”
I've been obsessed with the Turbo Diesel version of the GLC. Turbo, Diesel AND hybrid? I absolutely love it.
As a 2019 owner this isn't much different than mine just they put some more tech in new models. I am happy that I still can keep mine without feeling like I have missed anything about the car itself. Also higher ground clearance is better for me. TNX for REFINED video lol.
I like the good little car.
A great review like the interior.
How do set the reflection on the front glass
why the screen is so low ? isn't looking at GPS going to be a problem ?
So, is it more fuel efficient with the lower drag coefficient and mild hybrid 48V system?
It's got to be.
Id like to see some coverage of driver assistance features
I have had the 2023 GLC 300 now for almost 2 months. I was a little concerned how the touchscreen would work out as I am a physical button and knob guy. Once I got used to it is actually very easy to use. You can control pretty much everything from the steering wheel too. To me it is easy to differentiate between the 2022 and 2023. Great car! My wife and I love it.
and did you have to pay MSRP or less?
@@gosman949 A little less. Not much though.
@@TOPTechReviews863 well that is better than some of these other brands that think they are hot stuff!
Is there some reason this video is not available in 4k?
Niiiice.. Great review! Love you guys!!🤗 "Great Little Car"😂😂😂
Another great "A to Z" review. I like this vehicle and how it drives/rides but cannot stand the lack of hard buttons for frequently used functions and, frankly, these screens look like the designers velcro'ed ipads onto the dashboard. If you want leather and heated rear seats, you have to pony up for pricey packages and the MSRP quickly climbs to above $70k - and that's before adding the Burmester. I'd have a hard time living with this I'm afraid. To each their own but I'm going to hold onto my XT6 for now (and that vehicle is far from perfect itself).
I have a 2022 and would prob get the 2023 next year after seeing this video
Mazda had a model called the GLC in the 1970’s and it stood for great little car!
I got my first RX from my investment company and its has been great.. am thinking of getting a new gle 63 AMG next
I ❤ Great Little Car !
Been waiting for this one :)
When I was shopping around between the SQ5 and the GLC 43 AMG, my vote was leaning more towards the GLC. The only thing which let me down, was that stupid transmission shifter on the stalk. This time around? They softened the front end, and not in a good way. I feel the previous gen/iteration was better looking, Sportier if you will, but sure that's all subjective. The X3 is better looking than "This" GLC.
Your humor just makes a very good review the highlight of my day!!!
Wow, thank you!
Great review!!!
Zack’s hatred for the Vernasca leather seats in a Beamer 😂 it’s not that bad lol
Nice looking car, compact design and well specified interior!
The interior is certainly a big change for MB with the centre screen.
@andreaspencer9813 It certainly is and I'm sure judging from your video provides a lovely place to spend time in!
Great car
Another great review but if your choice is MB, BMW or Alpha so much for reliability.!
Great info and a refined video 🙂👍
Not first. But always love your videos
What I'm REALLY looking forward to is your GLE450e video and to ask in general how REFINED (lol) that ride is compared to this GLC, which you guys obviously are a fan of!
As always, good review. When is E class review coming up ?
Monday at 12pm PST/3pm EST.
@@andreaspencer9813 hey thanks for the information. Big E Class fan, I cannot wait.
@@MrWelfarehater Awesome, happy to hear that! Hope you enjoy the review, the footage from Vienna is beautiful.
@@andreaspencer9813 Thank you.
I wonder what the reliability is on this suv? Looks very nice!
I just traded mine but note that my only complaint was the lack of room for our family. Should have bought a GLE. Servicing costs over the past five years were triple our Toyota. I guess that’s the cost of luxury!
I agree 💯 regarding the comment about the wheel designs. They all seem so basic and not sporty. One area BMW nails. Also, I wished Mercedes would implement the Digital Key feature.
Great review! In addition to the 4 cars listed in the “For your Consideration” section, would you include the refreshed 2024 Cadillac XT4 as comparable?
That's one class smaller than GLE, more GLA
Pop question: what does GLE stand for 😊
I just came for the “S for Subscribe” schtick and accompanying sound effects 😊
WOW, did you see the front passenger seat move up when you flipped the release for the back seat to fold down! Now that is luxury! What other crossovers do that?
Yes, it does move
@@Motormouth... I notice that too. Is it automatic? I don't think the outgoing model does that? Does it?
Are the exhaust exit points real or fake?
The are fake
What's the refinement like? You never mentioned if it's refined like a Mercedes should be.
Lol! It's refined!
Love the reviews. SL is my favorite outta all MBs, but this GLC would be nice on long road trips.
Absolutely not! I have one and went for 2,5 hour trip and everything ached when I got out of that car
My 2016 GLC300 is very firm ride ok for around town but not on trips - I drove for 2.5 hours and my legs were glad to get out of that car - that’s why I’m trying to get the most comfortable soft ridING SUV now -
Buy Cadillac or Lincoln
@@reserva120 thank you I’m going to go test drive a Lincoln 😀
Not the biggest fan of MB, but I see these around all the time and if I were to get one, this is the MB I would get.
Not the A45 AMG?
It’s really small inside I have one and looking for another car with softer ride and larger interior
In 2012, I bought a 6 cylinder X3. Every week a different warning light went on. Traded it in before hitting the warranty limit. In 2022, bought the new C300. Zero complaints.
Hello my favorite refined couple. 😊. I didn’t notice the difference………in the “great little car” 🤔.
Great little car LOL 😂👍
4Matic is available in India as well.
Why need large laptop size screen in the car...?
Refined is nice but is it reliable? The only car I have owned less reliable than my MB was my 2014 Ram EcoDiesel!
Swish? I hope that go out like choice.
Makes me appreciate last model year GLC even more. All-screen interiors look cheap, are difficult to use and are too distracting.
Just wanted to mention that 9.1L/100 KM is NOT 31 MPG! More like 25-26 MPG. That jumped out at me in the vital stats section.
This correct comment should be pinned.
Awesome review Andrea! It’s a beautiful vehicle with an very refine! (13) 😆 👏🏻👏🏻☕️☕️
Haha! Did I mention it's refined 😉 glad you enjoyed the review. We certainly enjoyed driving the GLC for the week.
@@andreaspencer9813 yes you did mentioned refined! (14). 😆 You are an very welcome! ☕️☕️
No cooling seat again….?? Or can we add as an option??
You can add it as an option.
@@andreaspencer9813 ✌️✌️
The GLC would be much sharper if Andrea selected Zak's outfit for the review. :) Andrea makes the interior pop with her stunning salmon pink dress. Zak is wrapped in a picnic table cloth he stole from a family reunion at Frazier Park.
Thanks for the kind words, always nice to hear from my fans
I was thinking GLC was for Georgous Looking Candian. 🙂
They break down faster than you can put them back together after the warranty expires. Lexus is a much better vehicle for the price point and Reliability.
Great review, btw.
Is this smaller than GLB ?
Bigger.
The reliability is what prevents me from pulling the trigger
This is why I got rid of my GLC and order a new BMW X5. Customer Reports has BMW in the top 5 most reliable cars. You won’t believe this but it even beat Honda which I am a big fan and was very shocked to hear about this ranking. BMW is in 3rd place, Honda is in 5th and Benz is in 24th place. Plus Benz charges $300-$500 for oil changes at the dealership where as BMW only charges $130 at Fields BMW Dealerships. Maintenance is even included in the BMW for the first 3 years where Benz you have to purchase a Maintenance Plan or just pay out right. I love Benz but I won’t own one ever again. They are just to proud with their prices and services. Please check out the BMW X3 or the X5 and you will be more happier. Better horsepower, features, pricing and reliability for less.
spare tire? I thought they all come with runflat tires?
Yes runflat + spare
Will you choose this or the Grecale?
What does "bombing around" mean? Is that the Canadian version of "BUMMING around?"
Going fast
Make no mistake: this beautiful interior benefits from the very nice "enhanced ambient lighting" option. Mercedes is known for delivering cars without it. I bought a "GLC 300e AMG-LINE" which should have been equipped with this option. Well the car was delivered without it and basically they said: "Bad luck Mr. customer: there's nothing we can do about it. It's due to a shortage of semi-conductors".
If you don't believe me, ask your dealer: They have an internal memo explaining this problem. Of course: NO REFUNDS and NO “RETRO-FITTING”. I got a lawyer envolved and the offerd 1400 EUR to spend in their dealership. I refused so we will go to court. Sad but true story.
I’m I GV70 owner, and I think the genesis looks better in and out, but really wanted to hear you objective perspective about how it feels and performs in your view. I don’t care about the badge, and compare with the GLC previous gen, the GV70 was just ahead all around. Is this new GLC close that gap? Is it better than the GV70 in your view? About the quick and radical changes Koreans do to their generic brands, it doesn’t looks like they will do the same with Genesis. The G70 and end GV80 (the oldest models) have received just minor styling and features updates so far.
I think the GV70 and GV80 look amazing from the outside but think the inside looks weird. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but
to some it’s a deal breaker.
And to some it's a deal maker!
@@dalehuhtala9285
Clearly, as they do sell :)
@@spaztekwarriorI agree. I just test drove the gv70 and the buttons look so cheap…hard pass…
How many closets does Andrea have, a new oufit for every review?
GLC stands for Green Lantern Core, because it takes superhuman training of willpower to keep it road worthy on a budget when out of warranty. Ours just rang up a $1,180 charge from Mercedes to replace a right rear electronic brake actuator motor that failed, when its a $50 part and doesn't even require disconnecting brake lines to install.
shoot! how old is your GLC? Did you start having issues right after the 3 year warranty window?
@@keska01 2018, but only 21K miles.
@@BoopSnoot 😳 still brand new . What a bummer to hear
Wow!
The question is, is it refined enough?
Great question 😂
Who gives a fu___ about refinement talk to me about reliability
Don't say what, but say when! Regarding that top secret one you saw! 😏
Next month
I like the new GLC but unfortunately it´s very expensive in Germany 😓, thanks 😀
Almost all car models are more expensive in germany than the US.
@@chrisr25071 yes, unfortunately the price is round about 30% more.
Really I thought german cars were cheaper in Germany. Any time I'm there, all I see is people driving premium german cars. How do you afford them then?
@@janoycresnova9156 they not buy, they lease the cars for 2 - 4 years and then they give it back and get a new one.
@@janoycresnova9156 most are leased and financed. The new Glc 200 starts at 59.000€ in Germany which is 67.000 Us dollars and fully equipped its over 100.000 Us dollars for a 200 horsepower 4Zylinder engine. So yes we love our cars so much that we pay these outrages prices, an the manufactures take advantage of that; i guess in north america nobody would pay 100K for a glc, because of the cheaper competitors.
But 70% of all new cars and 85% of new premium cars in Germany are registered to companys and businesses, so not many people can afford these luxury cars, but companys or business owners can, but mostly because of tax advantages. This is why you see so many premium cars in germany. And then we also have longer delivery times, for the glc its 9 to 12 months; and the warranty is only 2 years long. So everybody in North america can be glad that the german car manufactures treat you so much better than the customers in germany.
The GLC is too small. It would be nice if you could both review the 2024 GLE 53 and the new line of Mercedes Cabriolets .. I'm still really confused on that one. It looks like there's no longer an E-Class Cabriolet, instead for 2024 the "CLE Convertible."
The GLE is the perfect size. I love mine.
4 cylinders with 250 horsepower and 300lbft of torque? What a time to be alive! 🎉
"Refined"
Personally like the looks of the GLC but purchased the Lexus RX because of reliability. The Mercedes just don't last like they did before in my experience.
Has the MB reliability gotten any better over the years?
Porsche Taycan battery replacement $50k usd. Check battery replacement with whatever EV you purchase
LOL; refinement. :)
Touchscreen is the future. We just have to get use to it as we did with cellphones. As you can see nowadays it’s hard to find a stone age push button cellphone. Now it’s touchscreen and all software driven to easily update any issues. So as now we really don’t have a choice but to accept the change.

MB just don’t have any product in competition against X5 or Cayenne. GLC is the same size as X3 Q5 and Macan, and GLE is 3-row like Q7 and MDX.
Isnt x5 a 3 seater like gle
There is something wrong with me, I can’t get my head around these outrageous prices.
There is nothing wrong with you about the crazy prices. What you have to remember is that driving an expensive car like a Benz or a BMW is all about status. People want to flex their muscles around their friends and family about how much money they have. That is the only reason I own a BMW. The only thing I do have to say is performance. They are way more superior than any Honda, Toyota, and KIAs. In terms of reliability these luxury cars tend to fall short. However, I am here to tell you that Customer Reports have BMW in 3rd place of the top most reliable cars. Toyota is in 1st place, Lexus is in 2nd, BMW is in 3rd, Mazda is in 4th, Honda is in 5th, and Benz is in 24th place. As you can see BMW is part of the big dogs. This is the reason I got rid on my Benz before it starts to break down.
Those wheels 🛞 got to go
Very nice SUV, but in the US two major issues. Our 2023 GLC AMG body with 20s came with Continental EcoContact 6Q. Very quiet, terrible in the rain. Worst part, we had a flat 4 miles from new. Unrepairable. Guess what, these tires are not available in the US . According to Continental , these are for the European market only. Comment from Mercedes, just put another make but same size on your AWD GLC. Zero help from Corp. Don't they understand you can mix tires on a AWD. They did put this in writing. No problem, had a new SL55 on order plus 30 fleet units, cancelled all of them and bought a Lexus LC500.Incredible car. Will sell the GLC end of the year or sooner. Mercedes customer service still stinks in my opionion.
Great Little Car lmao
No. it’ll sit in dealership for repairs. So No difference. Even if it’s 2023… 2053… it doesn’t matter. The answer will be the same🤷🏻♂️
As a current Mercedes owner, I am continually baffled by the low urgency that the dealer service network provides to customers.
I’ve lived in two major metropolitan areas, and dealt with 4 dealers (pre and post pandemic) and the story is always the same. The care that I receive once I finally get into service is excellent, but it takes weeks to get into the dealership.
Our Hondas, on the other hand, may not get a white glove “free espresso “ experience, but service appointments happen in just days.
With new cars necessitating dealer service as the only option, they have to get a handle on this. Until I can see my 2016 serviced promptly, I wouldn’t consider another.
@gary4760 do you have any issues with your GLC other than regular maintenance? I hear the Germans are super expensive to maintain :S
That's unfortunate, as my experience over the years has been the opposite. I've always been with the same dealer and the service experience has been topnotch - from appointments at my convenience to a loaner vehicle if desired.
hate to say this and it is a clichee but as many true: if wanna make clear you doing serious busyness you go for a Benz - image is still everything...
I understand that these vehicles may stand out when they’re driven. But looking at them, inside and out, I am just not impressed.
I’d rather have a Palissades
Totally understandable! Mainstream brands, like Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, and now Honda with the new Civic, have changed the way we look at luxury. These brands offer so much value that it is harder for “luxury” brands to stand out.
Top secret car you saw is the new AMG GT
Macan
