    Hi -- love the video -- i'm a sole trader gas service engineer just like you + iv'e been to many boilers just like the vaillant eco tec plus -- when the customer has had a service contract with ether british gas or homeserve or similar outfits -- they are there for about 15- 20 minutes + take longer filling in the paperwork they leave than doing anything to the boiler !! -- i went to a vaillant eco tec pro 24 which was in the roofspace , i was up there for over an hour cleaning the heat exchanger + propely servicing the boiler + i heard the guy downstairs say to his wife -- the engineer who's come before is only up there for 20 mins servicing the boiler , this guys been up there for over an hour i hope he knows what he's doiing !!! -- you can't wni eh !! -- take care Jim

      haha i had the same thing the other week servicing a fire. I could hear the old lady keep saying to her daughter am not sure he knows what his doing. the last guy did not need to go in the loft or when it was installed. Ended up having to cap the fire off! the chimney was terrible and catchment space was totally wrong with holes everywhere! bet she wished she had the last guy back now!

    I’m like you. I love repairing boilers that other engineers (if you can call them that) either haven’t got a clue about repairing or just want a boiler swap job.
    I can sleep at night. Great video.
    I worked for BG for 18 years but left when they appreciated the people who couldn’t fix boilers but could sell new ones more than the ones who actually Fixed them.

    Love your attitude mate straight to the point just like me. Down South we have our fair share of comedians posing as boiler repairers. Keep up the good work both boiler wise and videos...

    Top marks for trying to save the customer money, i was amazed when you gave using a leak sealer a go, would be great to know how long it lasts.

    Good work, don’t you think you could have damaged heat exchanger when cleaning:)) deserve a cup cake after customer constantly supervising your knowledge. Mate I am new to industry and grateful for your uploading and guidance.There are no practical on servicing unfortunately. I think it should have been part of portfolio. Never in a million years. Teachers also not very good. Lots of crap from them working days and very little on what’s needed. Thank you and please keep this videos coming. You helping many new engineers (or as I say 15% theory only engineers)

    Great video as always pal. As someone commented below BG don’t get long to carry out a ‘service’. I wish they wouldn’t use the term service as they only do a basic safety check.

      Yeah Shittish Gas aren't great, it's just a poke and go. Rip off merchants still living on their old reputation that the older population still associate with the original BG.

    Class again for someone like me being only a year being self employed love seeing someone care and show you might thinking your saving money and getting agood service from big companies and your not the satisfaction you must get from seeing and showing them what you do look forward to the next one

    Nice to see someone else knows it's not about making the heat exchanger look shiny with metal or nylon brushes, it's about clearing the gaps to allow condensate to drain. One of my fave and most used tools is the Vitodens cleaning kit.
    I take great pride in getting customers to cancel their British Gash contracts, not fit for purpose, your video proves it.

    Its great to see somebody that knows what they are doing and takes pride in doing the job properly. When you poked the dirt out of the heat excanger with that putty knife, where did all the carbon go?

    It’s not the engineers fault they don’t service correctly when companies and social housing are only paying £23 per visit and giving you at least 10 a day plus breakdowns . It’s the companies that need taking to task but that won’t happen

    I commend your efforts and making the decision to investigate the inside of the heat exchanger and showing the shortcomings of many operators in this industry, not just the big operators..
    However, once the heat ex leak was found. I would have stopped and told the customer that the heat ex has a leak and is un-serviceable. A leak like that will not stay leak free for long . The heat and temperature profile in the heat exchanger is too high for a sealant to work in the longer term., let alone what is does to the plate heat exchanger and divertor valve.
    The least cost option for the customer would be a fixed price repair from Vaillant. It is cheaper than you or I can purchase the main heat exchanger. Also they would have replaced the graphite seal, electrodes and maybe the burner too.
    You charge for the service and hopefully the customer would acknowledge your honesty and have you back in the future for servicing and other work.

  • @craigwebster7405
    @craigwebster7405 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To me it seems like there is 2 reasons this happened to this boiler.
    1, BG being shit
    2, the one time use seal at £20 a pop, surly it makes engineers reluctant to remove the burner unless really needed. It's an extra charge on top you'll need to justify

    • @MrKonquer
      @MrKonquer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don’t need to justify it at all, it’s part of the requirement of the service to have your heat exchanger cleaned annually by boiler manufacturers to cover your warranty, it’s so stuff like this doesn’t happen, bg and homeswerve are basically scoffing all the work up and not doing it properly that’s why they stopped calling it a service and call it a boiler check, they charge like 60quid and that’s the average price for most boiler service kits, huge red flag.

    • @matthewtrueblood408
      @matthewtrueblood408 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s time there was a change in the industry where these 20 minute “services” were a thing of the past. We used to take burners outbursts who so why not anymore. Oh yeah, profit!!!!!!! That’s all BG are about, hence why they’re all over the news and using sub-sub-contractors or 3 month fast-trackers as all their long serving loyal engineers were forced out.

    Don't tell me every service engineer takes the burner out and cleans it. You're slating BG you get these Engineers where ever you work, and I bet you wouldn't service it like that if the camera was off

    • @thementalgasman3tgasmainte317
      @thementalgasman3tgasmainte317  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed you will get these engineers everywhere, but it takes a few seconds to ask if the boiler has ever been stripped and seals replaced , this boiler hadn’t been stripped for a long , I’d bet you a years salary that I strip every boiler I service unless it’s seals are 1 time use only and it was stripped by me the year before unless customer is happy to pay for seals again , pretty much any boiler on the market is less than 1hr for a full strip down

    • @Westy90_
      @Westy90_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They haven't done anything dangerous, the readings on the probe n go were probably within limits (I hope). People have cars that never have a service, it just shortens the life span. Its the same for social housing, getting too many to do within a day

  • @SteveN-pw4dj
    @SteveN-pw4dj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    British Gas and Homeserve useless... Get a proper service and it will hardly ever break down and change a few basics like electrodes every 5 years maybe. Worked for me and cheaper than paying BG and homeserve to do nothing.
