Hello Brendon, as a Peterboroughian you couldn’t have picked a worse area to spend the night, you might have found it better closer to the river. Back in the day it was a nice city but us locals all know why it has seriously gone downhill (but you are not allowed to say out loud) love the vids.
Nice video Brendan. Peterborough is a sketchy place, lots of dodgy people in and around the city. I think you very brave camping alone in some of these places.
Hi Brendan, often sleep in my van in cold temperatures over the last few years. Best advice I can give you is to get a cheap polystyrene type yoga mat thing, about a fiver, put it under your bed mattress in van stops all the drafts from underneath and retains your body heat. I’ve also found that when you don’t want to risk the noise of the diesel heater it works alright to plug small fan heater or ceramic one into jackery. I often just sleep on residential streets and avoid car parks. Thanks as always for the quality content
I do winter camping in my van with no heater. Cheap alternatives are : get a wool blanket, wear thermal underwear, wear a wool hat, and wool socks. With a good cold weather sleeping bag, you will stay warm.
'Work vans' are 'free tool stores' attracting certain investigation. Glass panels help I suppose. Dim or switch off your interior lights before curtain twitching.
As a current Peterborough resident I admit it's not the best but you managed to stumble and stay in one of the worst areas of it 😂 you went the wrong way out of the carpark for food. Had you gone the other way town centre was 5 mins walk and is much nicer (not perfect but not a dodgy estate 😂😂). Oh and a cathedral is also not the marking of a city. It's highly common for a city to have one but there are a few examples of cities without them and also towns with cathedrals. Glad you survived but next time, in any city, research the areas to avoid and you might have a better time 😁

Your daring stopping in Peterborough as it's my own town,I normally find a layby near whittlesey or I go to coates and there's a bird sanctuary down eldernell lane,it's a dead end road into a car park

I live full time in my 2010 Renault trafic in London, I'm self employed and I have to pay the Ulez but it's still cheaper than renting and I built my home myself and I'm not willing to scrap a perfectly good vehicle 👍

Oh, the joys of searching for free overnight parking. Lol! Same issues here in Canada. Very beautiful cathedral. I guess I must be a 'sad bastard'' lol! I have saved so much $$$ car camping! Hotel prices are crazy and I travel with pets, so they tag on extra fees for them. Glad you stayed and had no real issues. I wonder if it was a meetup place for swingers or 'others'. Enjoyed hanging out!
Try Aldi Tropical Blast rather than Coke. Really refreshing and great with Chinese or Indian. Have you considered an electric blanket? We have one in our motorhome. Just like being at home.

Wise decisions Brendan .I get it as well .where I walk my 🐕 the place could be empty and a truck driver used to come I to the parking and deliberately pull up @ a foot from the front of my 🚗. The place was empty .I just reversed back and left .he was lucky my dogs didn't eat him.some people just don't take the hint .I still go ut I'm mindful .safe safe .🐐🐕😅😅😅

Great to see you back Brendan. We've got the LEZ here in Glasgow, it's a scam. My son who is a joiner had to buy a new van that cost him a fortune. No financial assistance. Would the so called do-gooders who come up with these schemes be so vociferous if they had to fork out in the same way. Anyway rant over, keep up the good work.
Couldn't agree more mate 👍 I agree in improving air quality but taxing the poor isn't the solution. Hope they scrap them all and give the public some real financial incentives (not penalties) to upgrade their vehicles
If you're ever in Ludlow...Oriental City is the best Chinese their chowmain is lovely amd then there is Chutneys next door best Indian around their Chutneys special is just amazing! If you're after a Kebab then the chip shop down by the back of Tesco bottom of the hill do the best Kebab for about £5 with chips..its hudge and me and the wife have to share one lol defo worth checking these out ")

Those spots, where they meet in cars, driving up and down with lights on full blast, aren't too bad, at least they're not bothering me, when I keep my lights off. (Well, they're not interested in a woman, anyway...) Nicer spots in cities can be found near small churches in the suburbs, they mostly have car parks, which are quiet for the night. Also sports facilities offer parking spots. My last trip to the UK was in 2019, so I was a bit shocked to find in January 2024 so many parking lots charge for parking, even out in the woods. What's going on over there? Regards from Germany.
The soupy curry is for putting the rice in to soak up. I used to cook alot of Chinese food. Your not gonna believe where I got the best darn Chinese cookbook ever.... I got it at the largest bookshop in London!!!(I live in the USA) long story short...back in the 80s I lived in Switzerland ( dual citizenship usa and Switzerland born in the usa) we visited London. My goal? Chinese cookbook. Very expensive in Switzerland. Went to the largest bookshop in London, I just couldn't seem to find the right cookbook, all of a sudden, as if a ghost took me by the hand...took me to the Elevator, down to he basement....stacks of books all over the place, and this " ghost" took me purposefully to a certain stack of books.....and lo....on the very Top of the stack,was the very Chinese cookbook I wanted....best one ever......I never saw the ghost,only felt it's presence....
That's one hell of a story buddy! 🤣 I'm glad you found your perfect Chinese cook book though 👍. I would love to find a restaurant that serves authentic Chinese food one day 😋

Went to the largest bookshop in London, I just couldn't seem to find the right cookbook, all of a sudden, as if a ghost took me by the hand...took me to the Elevator, down to he basement....stacks of books all over the place, and this " ghost" took me purposefully to a certain stack of books.....and lo....on the very Top of the stack,was the very Chinese cookbook I wanted....best one ever......I never saw the ghost,only felt it's presence....
