Thanks for watching GV!! He is isn't he. Stripey seems to be growing faster than an average Oscar, 2 months old now and 3 inches long growing half an inch faster. Mind you, I do feed Stripey quality whole foods like NEW LIFE SPECTRUM ADDED GARLIC, Frozen Shrimp, Fluval bug bites and sometimes Peas but spits them out sometimes
Drop a frozen pea in a cup of really hot water for a couple of minutes. Then remove the outer skin as this can be hard for smaller fish to eat.
@@Gilsfishroom Thanks GV. Sounds like you feed your fish Peas too. I boil the peas for a minute then peel the them. For some reason Stripey spits them out and other times eats them. Thought as he's young needs to get use to peas. Eats everything else though
Stripey sure has grown so much since the last video, tank is looking awesome and Stripey is gonna be a beast before the end of this year 💪

Thanks for watching Majestic! And your right, Stripey is growing faster than my other two Oscar brought at the same size as Stripey. Stripey's breedline is meant to be unique maybe that's a factor. He's a strong and fast lil' one too!
@@mraquaticnews5676 Yeah oscars on average grow one inch per month that's why they are almost their full size at one year, if you look at my Chancho video, he's a slow grower at only a half inch per month I had him for three years and he was 13 inches .Check out he the info and care guide I did on my Chancho cichlid he was a beast!
@@majesticcichlids1630 Good point! Oscars grow fast and after several months slow down substantially. My 2 larger Oscars grew fast and now that they're 9 months old and 7 inches long they have slowed down in growth. Stripey has grown faster so far let's see at 6 months what he'll look like especially his markings. I think I've seen chancho's video I'll double check
@@mraquaticnews5676 Definitely, just wanted to use my Chancho as an example although growing 18 inches on average and on rare occasions can grow to 20 inches takes a really long time to get to that size.
@@majesticcichlids1630 Wow! I take it in the wild Chancho's grow around 18 inches. Good you used Chancho as an example shows the growth difference between the species. Bear in mind from experience Oscars have growth spurts at certain intervals however by far they have a fast start early. My larger Oscars have a 125 gallon all to themselves and eat high quality food but haven't really grown long but have thickened slightly. Then again oscar keepers have given different experiences. Checked out your Chancho and he's huge!

Fluval Bug Bites are a fine product. Several species I keep love the Pleco Formula. I purchased the grade "for medium to large fish." The sinking sticks are larger than the product you bought.

Yes, black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens) is the main ingredient. That's a perfect food for many, fish species.
@@ejbrinegar Cool! Black Soldier flies/ larvae is a natural food source for fish in the wild! Thanks brinegar I'll try the fluval sticks.

I don't know if you saw Fluval's commercial, for this product. But, I think it a fantastic campaign: culturing these flies to produce a fine product.

Never met a fish that didn’t like bug bites we got a bunch of them on a clearance rack at some chain pest store a while ago because nobody wanted to spend the money on them man our fish love them but I’ll tell you what they stink really bad…. Yeah the thing is is we only fed him once in a while and intergraded it with their other food because we didn’t want them to get spoiled and not go back to eating the cheap stuff ha ha Ha
Thanks for tuning in JD! Great point and Bug Bites sure are pungent. Actually Brutus the Green Terror don't touch Bug Bites but likes the cheap tetra food. Nice, what type of Bug Bite did you get? The one I brought is a small one 50g tub on sale from Amazon. Fluval were right about Bug Bites being quality because Stripey has grown faster than other Oscars. With the amount of fishes you've got you guys must burn through the fish food! I'm lucky to pick the good stuff that'll change when the Oscars are fully grown. How often do you feed you feed your fish?

@@mraquaticnews5676 honestly don’t know yet. Don’t know enough about cichlids yet aside from appearances to make a decision. (Well, I do have angelfish) Heard South American cichlids weren’t as aggressive as African cichlids….
Looking for the more peaceful types, smaller varieties like the blue ram.
@@CryptKeeperAquatics Hobbyists say Africans are more aggressive than Americans, I've kept both and its all about a balanced tank, species with similar temperament and size is a must and places to hide if things get a lurrle rough! My tank has Oscars and a green terror. Oscars always chase the green terror who is way smaller but can seem to catch him. Then there was a smaller Oscar who stayed under rocks because my two large Oscars would attack on sight, smaller oscar wasn't even that small but one day the two oscars decided to eat the smaller oscar. I've uploaded a recent video analysing my Oscars aggressive behaviour check it out. Cichlid in general constantly look for opportunities and weakness then attack. Also, not all cichlid of the same species will be aggressive as there are less aggressive Oscars and green terror. Rams are a good option smaller species who like warmer water 83° and quite peaceful. Rams are sensitive so smaller water changes are recommended more often, 10% twice weekly some hobbyist do
