Thank you for sharing the footage! It was an amazing tram ride on Hong Kong Island. It brings me all my childhood memory. 70s and 80s was a time of hope for many Hongkongers.
Wonderful shot on our old 'ding ding'! My first time seeing the half 'double-decker' 200 (in silver paint for training motormen. The single deckers are lovely during the conductors' period.
First of all, thank you for sharing, this is wonderful, at 3:20, it was a tram, came on the opposite side, numbered 123, not yet this is the only one left with this model which currently still in service
The tram with the trailer became discontinue to use around 1975. The beginning of the film with trailer on left side is HSBC main branch, the far back turning corner white building is HK Chartered bank main branch.
Thank you for the movie. I live in Shaukeiwan (Eastern district) for thirty years. A lot of memory for last 5 mins. The last 20 seconds is another tram journey from Shaukeiwan terminal, do you have more movie on Shaukeiwan, thank you very much!
Gosh! Those uniform dresses on 7:05 were from my school(old design ofc)!🤩🤩🤩 I wasn't born in that generation but our school's main entrance is now exhibiting this style!💚
I remember seeing SCMP doing a comparison between Hong Kong then and now. It'd be cool to see that for this video, especially considering that we all know the tram routes.
So cool , if I was able to go back in time to this moment I would go to kowloon waĺled city and have some opium tea and a hair cut and go to the roof and watch Planes
Bruce Bente asks: . I'm curious about all the motorman's hand actions on the master controller. He seems to flip it around a lot. Is it a single-handle for both power and brake?

I lived in Shamshuipo, Kowloon in 1979-1980. During my stay here, Hong Kong was a paradise on Earth. Jobs, food, clothes, electronics, etc. were abundant. One time, I got 3 jobs offered in one day. Very sad to see Hong Konh under communism now.
in 1979, China had just been opened, HK benefited from it, that was why you got 3 job offers a day! Before China opened, it was even very hard to find a job in the early 70s!

Thanks for your video. Totally recall my childhood. Especially the Shau kei wan station that I took tram back home after school everyday.
Thank you for sharing video trip from Central to Fortress Hill and Shaukeiwan Tram Terminus

Good old days ! 👍
Just out of curiosity, how much was the adult fare back then? I know now it is $2.3 HK dollare, a few years ago it was $2.
Sorry, I don't keep up with comments. I really have no idea of what fares were charged.
Rushour717 it was HK$0.30 per adult
HKD $1.00 for adult, and HKD $0.50 for children and student in 1991.
And HKD$ 70 for one adult monthly pass, also in 1991.
Must still have been 20c for Adults upper deck and 10c lower deck. Great video and record of how it used to be 40 yrs ago.

No, what is a red light meal?
