Maynard's command of sound and the texture he's able to encapsulate, both vocally and in the direction he leads his bandmates in, is second to none. Each work - even the silliest of them - is it's own little masterpiece. It's almost unreal how much he's evolved as a musician throughout his career - never treading backwards over territory he's already covered on his journey, but still occasionally letting the listener hear glimpses of those beloved places as he leads us to new and unexplored places. Shit's crazy, man.
The reference to bread and circus is to the threat to democratic governments when the populace decides it can vote itself "bread and circuses," as well as just the appeasement of the mob with bread and circuses. The phrase recurs in a host of ancient and modern settings. There are a number of good quotes on the theme. For example, "The evil was not in bread and circuses, per se, but in the willingness of the people to sell their rights as free men for full bellies and the excitement of the games which would serve to distract them from the other human hungers which bread and circuses can never appease," from Moreel's "Of Bread and Circuses."
Tool is one of a kind. As is APC, and Puscifer. It’s nice to see a genius like a Maynard have multiple outlets. It’s like a favorite food prepared three ways.
This album is a masterpiece ... So Many songs i would like you to do but Bullet Train To Iowa, UPGrade , Fake Affront and Grey Area ALL are worth listening to whole album is.. Bread An Circus is one song I don't listen to as much as the rest of album.. .... Don't even do those Tool songs you just mentioned they are not songs they are filler minus Culling Voices that is a must..
I agree with everything you said except about the rest of the Tool album. You are correct, Culling Voices is a masterpiece, but the only filler track left is Mockingbeat. At nearly 5 minutes long, almost twice the length of any average "regular" song, you can hardly say Chocolate Chip Trip is "filler". Also it is a spectacular display of Danny's skills. And then 7empest. 16 minutes of filler I guess. But then again that's just like, your opinion man. 🤷🏼♂️✌️
Regarding Puscifer, please react to all 3 versions of Momma Sed (studio, Live at Club Nokia, Tanndemonium mix), Life of Brian (Carina's freakin phenomenal on that one), The Mission (Milla kicks butt on that one), and The Rapture. Hope you read this. Thanks.
APC>Pucifer...just saying. I would listen to Mer De Noms Thirteenth Step, and Eat the Elephant before jumping into the Pucifer pool. that's just my two cents, you do you

This album is criminally underrated
Bullet train to Iowa is so gritty it is really à great song. One of my favorites of last 5 years id say.
Currently my favorite song on the album right now!

Just an idea, but you might consider watching the videos in order, when you finish the Tool discography.
Pop music isn't a swear word like some Tool fans seem to think... Don't worry 😂

I must've listened to Mer de Noms everyday for over a year when it dropped.
@@n0tk0sherOne of the best debut rock albums and his voice and writing style is so different from Tool. Truly a classic album, al killer no filler!!
