      Fun reaction. Just wanted to offer the view that this film helped people understand the mental stress cops went through, kind of the way Rambo helped shine a light on the mental health of veterans (not just Vietnam veterans, though he was a soldier in Vietnam).
      I'd also like to offer the idea that mental health wasn't ignored or fluffed off in the 80s and 90s. It's just that people didn't blast their personal problems all over like they do now. The captain shrugged off the shrink because he's trying to protect Riggs, not because he doesn't believe her.
      There used to be hospitals for people with mental problems to go. But, I'm told that Regan changed some of the policies that ended up closing many of these facilities and that was the beginning of the mentally ill joining addicts in being homeless on the streets. I've admittedly not researched this. This is what someone who was around at the time told me.
      Looking forward to the other movies in this series

    This movie had better art and music direction than most people give it credit for. In almost every scene at the start of the film, their costumes are opposites in color and tone, but still go together. Each one has a specific instrument (sax, guitar). It’s pretty committed to the opposites-that-mesh thing.

    Younger generations seem to be confused on what a mullet is. Billy Ray Cirus in “Achy Vreaky Heart” had a mullet. Bono at Live Aid had a mullet. Mel Gibson doesn’t have a mullet. Take it from someone who grew up in the 80s. 👍😁😁

    The 80s and early 90s were definitely the era of the 'rogue' cop who did things outside the line to get the job done. This, of course, started with Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry in the 70s as inspiration for the genre. We see it in the Lethal Weapon Series, Die Hard and the action comedy Beverly Hills Cop to name a few.

    • @jayeisenhardt1337

      Dirty Harry as inspiration for the genre. Is that an art imitates life sorta thing? Dunno if we had vigilantes or just dreamed of cleaner streets back then cuz I'm to young to know. From what people say there was porn in the theaters crime sprees on the streets and tons of serial killers back then. From old films set in NYC to current IRL bitching how bad NYC is getting. I wonder if city life in general is not as openly degen anymore? Is it chill during daylight but still more drug related? Do the freaks come out at night, for the pimp and player?

    The overdubbed vocal lines in this series are legendary. The end fight reminds me of an old black and white, Popeye vs Bluto fight with all the chatter. Only thing missing is Olive Oyl saying 'Oh My' in the background.

    • @jeanine6328
      @jeanine6328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robin Williams as Popeye was the best casting ever. If you haven’t seen it, it’s totally worth it. Effects and set are not exactly cutting edge but a wonderful film, 1980s Popeye staring Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. They couldn’t have cast a more perfect Olive Oyl.
