Fantastic early footage. To think those guys were doing it on loose dirt tracks, with those ealy braking systems too. They most certainly had balls of steel. Excellent video.
Thank you for the upload it was fun to watch the Timeline and progression of Pikes Peak.. I have and will always be a fan and enthusiast of anything automobile.Love from Ohio..
You know what the makers of Dirt Rally video games should do? A strictly Pikes Peak game, allowing you to play through every year of Pikes Peak driving any of the cars actually entered that year.
Thats so great in the POV part around 14:00 you can see the driver on many occasions initiate a drift before a corner to improve cornering. great driving. And solid work with the video, good music choice!
considering the loose surface/poor traction, tire, suspension, brake components... quality, the high altitude thin air engine troubles, the times they achieved were blistering fast! that car is like a snake, all over the road! man´s got some serious driving skills
+pietro scelfo Haha, right on. When she won anything driving the Audi sure helped....but Michelle was a real talent.....she well deserved her place in the Audi team in my opinion!
Gracias
Hi BSP Vintage and Barnyard Studio Productions, This is a great video! Would someone from your team be able to reach out to our director, Megan, at megan@ppihc.org? Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, The PPIHC
It started out as a dirt road then they paved the bottom portion but the race still was on dirt for the top half...then the damn democrat mayor of Colorado springs bitched and moaned about how unsafe it was for the public and the nanny state ended up paving it all the way to the top...sometimes progress isn't progress at all.
Nice set of vids...but the editing could use some work...please MODULATE the music!!! It is very annoying in too many places (especially overtaking the narration).
Good job completely covering up the engine sound with that obnoxious music (noise). No one wants to hear the sound of a screaming offy or small block, (they might get an erection)
Good documentary but could have been so much better - music was also annoying especially when there is a narrator (just no need) & what's with the t.v box?.
So they already had automatic air/fuel mixture system in the early 90s yet now in 2020 most race car have stupid knob to ajust mapping on the go why tho(f1, lmp, gt you name it) they all have the ugly rectangle steering wheel with way to many button and knobs
Ak Miller was a racer's racer. He built a couple beautiful cars and a couple really ugly ones! He wasn't doing big league stuff like NASCAR or Indy, but whatta sportsman racer he was. Much like Mickey Thompson.
Well, they were smart (most) in that they didn't push to the max and left some very small margin while today's racecar drivers drive like they're invulnerable and in circuit racing often approach the limit from above it especially on circuits with asphalt runoffs.
Just did this ride today: it was awesome. Thank you Pikes Peak!

Great compilation of early to late foootage and a soundtrack that complements the silent movie feel of a lot of it. Thanks!
Awesome video. The closing song is an absolute assault on the ears though... holy headache
Another AWESOME video! Oh how I miss those “dirt road days”! Fabulous video and soundtrack!

27:10 Man, Bobby Unser was smooth as butter. No wasted motion. I think the race was better on dirt. It's too bad they paved it.
I have to agree 1972
Thank you
Oh wow....this was a real gem! Thanks for sharing!
Great footage but framing it on an old TV screen spoils it.
Thank you for the documentary, time to boot BeamNg and do the full gravel course.
“They have to do almost a mile a minute!” 😂
Thanks for the upload.
This race doesn't get a lot of publicity, for some reason.
+Hagen Steele It's been on NBCsports for several years now....that's something.

Very good Video !!! Thanks from Germany.
Excellect vid! Thanks!
Growing up there was hella fun

Awesome. @22:35 is where it started for me!
Great upload really enjoyed the 1960s
This looks like an excellent channel for me! The vids may be 4 yrs old, but they're brand new to me!
AWD changed everything at Pikes Peak just like it did so for rallying and Australian/Japanese Group A racing.
considering the loose surface/poor traction, tire, suspension, brake components... quality, the high altitude thin air engine troubles, the times they achieved were blistering fast! that car is like a snake, all over the road! man´s got some serious driving skills
Great job formating the retro tv to frame your doc!
Nice work. Good choice of music.
is it possible to list the music for this has you put some really nice jazz music in this also nice video.
BSP always seem to choice the most appropriate jazz chill out music.
In 1916 they used a calender to time the cars!
P&Wengineering top speed 30 mph 1 hour to get to the top lol
What is the music playing during the Bobby Unser Audi Quattro segment.
Freaking love Michelle Mouton!!
The TV frame is silly.
Is Unser still mad about losing to Ms. Mouton in '85? Why didn't he race her back down the hill when she asked if he "had the balls" to?
+pietro scelfo Haha, right on. When she won anything driving the Audi sure helped....but Michelle was a real talent.....she well deserved her place in the Audi team in my opinion!
The Unsers are nothing more than a bunch of childish dipshits.

whats the song from 0:43 - 3:38?
Wish they would say what they are driving!
Nice video! What is the music? Can you add a tracklist??

Steve Fowler I thought they were complaining that the dirt was killing the trees?
Low and behold the mayor probably owns the local asphalt company.
Sorry, but the music is too loud and in general totally sucks.
Agreed!
Nice set of vids...but the editing could use some work...please MODULATE the music!!! It is very annoying in too many places (especially overtaking the narration).
They ruined this famous course when they laid down the bitumen
Great footage, but that music ruins a good watch.
Good job completely covering up the engine sound with that obnoxious music (noise). No one wants to hear the sound of a screaming offy or small block, (they might get an erection)

tv box is great as was the music
Anyone know the track at 19:24?
Seriously? its pikes peak. The whole thing is pikes peak
@@beaujangus3619 @Beau jangus I meant the song!

4:10 17 minutes and 40 seconds? For 12 miles? I'm no math whiz, but that ain't 60mph.
41:25 randy pobst Should retired, he crashed then and now with his tesla in 2022
No seatbelts, no helmets, no rollbars, and their heads sticking way up out of the car! Early race drivers were brave, but they weren't very smart!
