  • In December of 2022 I hired a broker to find me a Mitsubishi JB470 in Japan. I wired the money and the van sat at the port in Yokohama for 7 months!
After a LONG wait we were able to get the Van a ride on a ship to Galveston, TX and this 2 part series details picking up the van and the adventure as I took it from the Port of Galveston all the way to Portland, OR and back to Salt Lake City!

I can only remark that the speed of the pan needs to be addressed to avoid causing motion sickness in viewing.

I want to go to arches with the JB470 and with Brent.
Also the basement GP aesthetic looks awesome. Seems like the kind of thing someone would imitate.

What was the driving experience like? You said it felt like it lost power in the heat, but how did it fare otherwise? What were your speeds going up big grades? And how’s the noise level while driving? Wondering how loud it is while you’re sitting on top of the engine…
Thanks for posting, I’m looking at these and will be following your process!

Hey good morning. So glad you are here for the journey. I am probably more of an adventurer than a van life nomad, so we will see how my content compares to some of the other stuff out there.
To be fair, I definitely pushed the van that first week. I didn't have electrical sorted and I needed to be able to work, so I did like 3 weeks of driving in 5 days. The van runs great, and since the trip I have taken it to a shop to give it a once over/ look at how to better cool it etc on those hot days. The day it got hot I was on a 80 mph freeway from moab to green river trying to keep up with no shade and pretty warm outside temps. It definitely got hot, but also never boiled over so I don't know if I can say it overheated or not.
Noise while driving is surprisingly low. There is noise, it is an old diesel powered van, but its still much lower than I thought it would be. We will see how new wheels and bigger tires change it.
She goes about the speed of a semi up any grades. Keep that in mind when you are considering a non turbo version, or towing etc. She will get you there but on her own terms. I will have a video with some updates on that, I have just been super busy with work, and October was basically a full travel (in airplanes month).

@@turtlefactory good to know and thanks for the reply! I’m also looking more for a weekend adventure rig that can handle some longer trips in December and July… I’m good with taking in the scenic routes in something like this, I wont be in a hurry to get anywhere.
Did you import this yourself or go through an importer?
I’ll keep an eye out for your next videos - looking forward to seeing what else you do to and with this thing!
Last question - Did you come up with a name yet?
