it's a real shame centering isn't measured digitally. It's definitely a gut level eye appeal thing. I've had a lot of cards in the 42/58 44/56 range end up getting 9's even though that is within the 40/60 range
42/58 would still be deductions from the card if added along with other issues can get the 9. 60/40 isn't a checkbox that allows a 10 and counts for no demerit
What are you thoughts on eBay implementing zero seller fees for personal accounts in the UK and other European countries? It’s claimed to help drive sales for us business accounts but I’m not so sure..
Grade distribution definitely should not be bimodal. A normal distribution, or something like PSA's distribution of grades is more normal. Most cards graded are modern cards, and most should be getting 9s or 10s, especially if the people sending in the cards are being at least somewhat discerning on what they send in. That said, everybody hates 9.5s and especially 8.5s.
I have a BGS graded ‘97 Kobe Bryant that has 10 corners, 10 edges, 10 centering and a 7 surface and knocked my grade to an 8… lol.. granted the card still has its protective coating back in the 90’s with recognizable scratches on it that knocked it down.. but man, I was much hoping for a 9.5 haha.. really considering getting it cracked and graded to PSA - a PSA 10 recently sold for close to 2k
Wouldn't it only be fair to say PSA grades easier if cards weren't pregraded? (Which I think its safe to assume most are) There are quite a large amount of people who only send in their most minty cards to psa and put the other stuff aside to sell raw or send to cgc.
That's why I dealt with highly accessible promos almost nobody pregrades at all. I barely pregrade for psa and send all the best stuff to cgc or bgs for stuff like that if anything psa is getting the worst of it by fad
Maybe CGC is using the 9.5 as a buffer to maintain some amount of the difficulty in grading with them. Maybe they wanted to make the 10 more obtainable but not as obtainable as PSA.
I have my own personal way of grading cards which anyone can easily understand. I call it the "Alice grading system" Level 3 - Flawless: The card appears to be fresh out of the pack with no visible signs of damage. Level 2 - Average: The card has some light wear and tear from frequent use. Level 1 - Damaged: The card is heavily damaged, marked, bent, off-center, or torn. Things are a little different for signed cards. If there's a real signature on the card, then you can ignore the fact that the card is marked and grade it based on the remaining factors. So for example, if you got a card signed by someone like Ryan that's otherwise near mint, then you can grade it a Level 3 - Flawless Ryan card.
I'd give this video about 3.5 Stars.
1.5 tops

Makes no sense how that isn’t the one thing that’s like a standard 😂

I’m waiting on the coveted 6.9 grade to appear 🚀🌕🙏
👀 🤑
Ooo pointing out the 8.5 from last video's chart was my main takeaway in the last video 🔥🔥
Great breakdown! 😂👍

It's a pre emptive step to buyers premium. Big nothing burger
Half grades is like people on ebay posting raws as LP+
What’s crazy is I actually know an 8.5 collector personally - there is literally a collector for everything 😂 agreed tho
Find me that 3.5 collector then I will be impressed (or depressed)

Half grades aren't real, they can't hurt you.

Beckett is tougher because they've been around longer. Either way, grading is kinda pointless unless you're already in the bubble
I think the most the total grade can be is 1 over the lowest subgrade

This is functionally a 9.25 though. Wild what they did
9.5 helps with vintage value, Modern...eh
No bell curve shows a huge flaws in these grading companies.
🚀
I get too many 9.5s from CGC still and it feels like bs every time lol
