  • The Nike Pegasus 41 and New Balance Rebel v4 are two everyday running shoes refreshed for 2024. Released in March, the Rebel v4 ($140) offers a lightweight and speed-oriented ride in a clean package, while the brand-new Pegasus ($130) is designed for versatility and durability. In this video, I give an overview of both shoes, take them out for a threshold workout and let you know how they stack up. (By the way, I forgot to get my prediction in during the video, but Celtics in 5.)

I went on a run in my Nike Pegasus 40s today. Got them on sale for like 80 bucks on the Nike App last month. Before my run , I had pain in the bridge of my foot. After my run I had zero pain in the bridge of my foot. I’m all Nike from here on out. The Peg is such a solid shoe. Can’t wait to try the 41!

@@camonly849 It’s been a while since I owned a pair of ASICS, maybe a decade, but I do remember them being solid as hell also. But yeah, try the Pegasus out. You can probably still get the 40s on sale. If you like them, try the 41s when they go on sale next year. Just the way I do it though. I know some people always like to have the newest version when it comes out. Peg is not built to be the most cushioned shoe though. But I like that. If you want super cushioned I hear the invincible run 3 is the best on the market for that.

Got the rebel V4 last week as a suppliment to my 1080 V13.
    Two very different shoes.
Im a slow runner but took the V4 for my first 10k race ever.
It was a low effort to try out Racing so i did not tap into the shoes potential, but it makes me want to go faster than the 1080 V13. At some point it felt “harder” to run than with the 1080.
Still trying to wrap my head around the V4.. did some intervals with it some days ago and they really propelled me forward

I usually have a pr or 2 of pegs around for lawn mowing and shoveling..they have good traction and a snug fit so they stay put in off camber areas..the down side is they're hot, heavy and flat with no cushioning..the air bag feels like something is stuck on the outsole or waded up in the forefoot..probably it's best feature is they are discounted all the time and they come in a huge variety of colors..good video...

  • @CharlesMayer-wu5rb
    @CharlesMayer-wu5rb 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great review, Ty.
Seems like lots of really good $130-$140 shoes, which is great, since manufacturers are working hard to normalize the $200 price point.
Seems like the $140 price point has two groups:
    Fun:
    >Rebel 4
    >SL2
    >Novablast 4
    >Velocity Nitro
    >Mach 6
    Clunky/old school:
    >Cumulus
    >Ride
    >Ghost
    >Pegasus
    >Etc
To me, it’s difficult to justify any of the second group shoes, when the first group is available for the same money.
Further, the first group shoes are much better looking as well.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Great breakdown and I'm 100% with you. Some argue that the second group offers more durability but I don't want a long-lasting shoe that's bad to run in 😂 also you can get 300+ miles out of the fun shoes as well. Supernova rise and 860v14 are probably the best of the comfortable/durable $140 shoes - still need to try the cumulus though

Great in-depth comparison, as always 👏 I knew the Peg would take the L with this one, though 😂
    It's a no-frills, traditional, durable, daily trainer.
I don't think we need to be blown away with our shoes on every run, which is why I feel there's still a place for the Peg in a rotation if you're fortunate enough to have more than one pair of running shoes.

You're right, it's not apples to apples but, if I have $120-$140 to spend on a shoe, I'm going to think about what is the best shoe (for me) to serve my purpose, whether it's the Peg, the Rebel, or an old model that has been marked down.
I partially agree about the specs. I think they can tell us something but how everything comes together makes a difference, too. We often say things like, "it's an 8mm drop but it feels like less." A very rockered shoe may feel less so if the foam is really soft and the shoe is flexible so everything flattens out when you hit the ground. I think way too much about this.

The Takumi is around $45 more expensive, and i have to choose either 1/2 size up or down. I already have the Deviate Nitro 2's for training sessions. What shoes are the best, or do you have any other recommendations?

    • @supwell

Choosing between the Takumi Sen and Sinster I'd pick based on whether you want softer/more minimal with more ground feel or more built up and cushioned. Sinister is super lightweight and has the PWRRUN PB foam which compresses a lot - Takumi Sen will not have as much ground feel from the denser foam used. I know a lot of ppl like the Hoka Cielo and Asics Magic Speed 3 for this as well but I have not tested either of those yet

Rebel v4 vs Boston 12, but this comparison does not seem correct.

so that had to be expected.......just one remark. I don`t look at the price of a shoe, i look at the price i have to pay to run 100 miles in a shoe. Lets say the shoes both cost 150 $, and one pair gives me 300 miles and the other pair 600 miles, it is 50 $ per 100 miles against 25 $ per 100 miles. Suddenly one pair costs double the price of the other one. To go one step further. If you run 1000 miles per year, it gets a 250 $ decision....and if you run more than 3000 miles per year it is a difference of 750 $ per year.....it might be a good idea, to get a shoe like the Peg 41 AND the Rebel 4 to meke something like a mixed calculation, to pay for the fun-Rebel with the savings by the durable Peg
edit: i personally will not buy the Peg 41. I still got some Nike Peg Turbo 2 i run in , lots of fun, much ground feel what i like, somewhat snug fitting, which reminds me of the racing flats of the 80th, where you had to buy uncomfortable racers, nothing else on the market, but it made you run faster, just to get out of the shoes earlier
......all in all compared to the early days of running shoes, we live in a paradise of options, and i like that a lot....i rotate through 20 different shoes per month, get most of them to 500 miles, buy almost all of them discounted, and i never had more fun running than now closing in on 50 years running and reaching the 70 year of my life mark.....most days double days with lots of rest and healthy eating in between, being retired, but living the life of a professional runner without sponsors and races, thankful for that gift every morning when i wake up pain free and ready to go
keep on the great work in your channel, love to watch your videos.....also love that you talk in a normal conversational pace without trying to get all you want to say in a 12 minute video

I love the idea of getting both shoes to stretch the dollar per mile value - the Pegasus will definitely go forever
