Welcome to our book of Acts Bible Study. Over the next several months (if it's God's will) we will study through each chapter of the book. Today we discuss Acts 1 (verses 1-12). In this chapter, Jesus ascends to heaven and a new Apostle, Matthias is selected to replace Judas Iscariot.
The notes, handouts, and all supplemental materials are available on our website (see link above).

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for being authentic and taking the time to go through it verse by verse. I love it!

So good and great points on digging in to the scriptures themselves rather than going along just because it’s what we’ve always been taught! Thank you for laboring over these studies, teaching how to dig in to scripture by example, and leading us by the hand through them! Praying for you and megan both, always! Keep going!

You said here you think the Holy Spirit being received at baptism was only for this moment in time but it sounds to me like Acts 2:38-39 says otherwise. You may no better. I’m humbly asking because you seem open minded and I want to be sure we are not leading people astray as Christians.

You are correct. The first sermon ever preached, by the Apostle Paul, says: "This is a promise for you AND for all who are far off that God will call."
"Be baptized, everyone of you, FOR the forgiveness of your sins AND the gift the Holy Spirt."
Later in Acts 8:44-47, Peter and the other Jewish people seems amazing that the Holy Spirit is given to gentiles. I =also feel/sense some of the amazement is also that they have NOT yet been baptized, as in v. 48 Peter's immediate response is that Cornelius' household should be baptized. It seems the two go hand in hand.

Rabban Gamaliel said in chapter 5 that if the Jesus movement or Nazarene sect of Judaism or Netzarim in Hebrew came to nothing then it had no divine origin. The Netzarim officially ended in 135 ce and disappeared from history in 333 ce thus proving Yeshua was not the Messiah similar to the others mentioned in that passage. Splinter groups and Romanized Christianity don't count as authentic 1st century Netzarim as only they were put on trial to determine if Yeshua’s Messiahship was of the Lord. He/they clearly failed as the others had so only conclusion to make is that Jesus is a false Messiah.
