Yes, me too. This will be so satisfying to watch. Shannon, you have mentioned this “project” for years! ❤ Congratulations you and Grant are finally here!
Nice to see a couple that has the patience to wait until they have the funds for the project and not go into debt because they want it now! Great job it looks so good. Congratulations on getting your kitchen renovation started. ❤😊
Can you share what brand of door you bought? Three years ago we replaced a back door in our LR into our backyard with a sliding patio door that we bought from Home Depot. The particular one we chose ended up not being so great. As it turns out, if it gets super cold like single digits, the door will expand and contract with the temperatures, and sometimes it won't even close all the way, leaving a slit of air to come in. I believe the name of it was Master Piece. Either way, we have to continually adjust it near the floor with the screwdriver as the temperature fluctuates in order for it to close properly because it expands with heat and cold. When we called customer service, they told us there's nothing that can be done because it's fiberglass and fiberglass will do that. It's funny how you can have an old door from say the 70's that at least will close even if it is a hazard as far as thin glass. This one looks all pretty but it sure doesn't function well. Hence, the reason I asked if you would mind sharing the brand that yours is in case we need replace at some point when funds become available. 😢
Hello Julia, We found this door at Home Depot, and it was pretty affordable, but we mostly made our choice based on the fact that it had the blinds in the door. I think there are better doors out there than this one that would work better for cold weather. We also had an issue with the screen door on this so I am not sure if I would recommend it. =)
@woodglueru Thank you for sharing, shannon! We also had an issue with the screen door on ours. I must remember that your climate is much warmer than ours. That makes me confident yours will turn out to be fine. Plus having Grant with the architect mind to fix any weird situation that might arise is a blessing. I wish we had chosen the one with the blinds in it as well. I ended up finally putting up a curtain rod and curtains to block the glare onto the t v from the 🚪. Would you believe that the door itself cost 650, but the home depot installation charged 900 With parts & labor. We have an all brick ranch style home & there was an issue with the space not being the proper fit for a patio door, so they called it a custom fit. There was only one guy who did it, and he had to build in wood trim at the top like a header. Let's just say he wasn't a Finished carpenter like Grant. So, I'm not super happy with the look. The door that we took out to put the patio door in was the kind that looked like French doors but one side just a false piece of glass hooked to 1 door that opened like a regular door. Not sure of the proper name for that.. I'm so happy you will share your renovations on this channel. They encourage me and give us ideas for the future!! I love everything to do with home renovations.❤🎉
Good job! You make it look so easy. First-time viewer. Thank you for telling me what and why you are doing something that is short and to the point. Informational yet not a lot of fill in chatter. I personally find that refreshing.
Great job! I'm excited to follow this transformation! The sliding doors look amazing and seem so much more functional than the door/window. Also, great teamwork getting the whole family involved! Thanks for sharing!💖
I also am a subscriber on Shannon's channel. We have the blinds inside our windows in our family room where it gets so sunny. We love ours and I'm sure you will love yours also. The one thing that sold us on them is once our cat got tangled up in the cord of the old blinds we had. We was fine but that can be scary with children and pets.
Congratulations on finally getting to renovate your kitchen! This will be such a fun series to watch and look forward to each video update. I like the doors, especially with the built in blinds. My rental unit's back door, has the built in blinds in the upper window section. They're perfect for a kitchen. Hope you share the plans and show the layout so we can see your vision. I do like your vintage kitchen. Hope you can salvage the cabinets and reuse them in your garage or do you plan on donating them? Love the humor - red tape on the t-shirt and bread wraper sponsores, too funny! Yeah - kitchen series!!!
I follow Shannon’s channel. Great job, Grant!! Wonderful carpentry skills but also very impressed that you kept the “mess” contained so well! Congrats on starting the kitchen renovation!
This was a very nice way to learn the steps to install a new door ! Your humor and your two great helpers made it extra enjoyable. 😃👍🪴 This door really made a big difference in your kitchen !
Love watching renovations from other country's and seeing how diffrent stuff is done , I'm uk and always think how easier it is to work on timber houses , can't wait to see it finished 😀
This will be fun!!! At least it will be for us to watch. 😂I’m so happy for you Shannon. You have talked about a new kitchen for a very long time. Grant does great work. I can see the boys are going to be just as handy as him.

FIRST… praying your safe away from the wild fires🙏🏼🙏🏼 Yea!!!!!! I’m jealous lol we need new French Doors to replace the 1986 sliders, that are HEAVY ,and this project is always the o e that gets pushed back. So blessed to find the love of your life who is a carpenter lol😅
Fridge that far away from sink and stove, plus having a walkway in front of fridge will be a future issue. I hope you will rethink that fridge placement.
I came over from Shannon's channel. I love watching projects like this.

Me too - been a subscriber to Shannon for years and now a hubby channel.

Should be plenty of work for chippys in LA for the next few years. Still recovering in Oz from the 2019 Black Summer fires. Geoff.

We love the office!
@ so do my husband and I! I caught the reference in the video! 😆
What about the termites?😢
We had the house treated, so this is just the leftover damage. At least we know the termites are gone now. =)
Great!!
It’s been 5 years already 😮
☺️👋
Fridge that far away from sink and stove, plus having a walkway in front of fridge will be a future issue. I hope you will rethink that fridge placement.
We have it that way now and it's been fine =)
👋🏾;)😘😘😘😘😘🇫🇷
🔨 💅 😂
Is your husband from New Zealand?
Yes! From NZ =)
What are you saying?
There was not one ‘that’s what she said’ joke. I’m a bit sad like you have gone all mature on us! Lol 😂
There was one! It was when he was putting the drywall on the wall, it was fast and hard to hear.
Great start to the new kitchen!
