I like this home’s intentions and the overall approach. The kitchen could benefit from a rethink. An island could replace the too large table to allow for additional counter space, storage, and a much desired dishwasher. The downstairs bedroom needs a rethink too so that the patio doors aren’t giving people outside a direct line of site into the ensuite loo. I like the levels and think this could be made into a functional and comfortable family home.
This is a good effort in creativity, but in some ways form has triumphed over function. The ground floor should be on one level, as the unnecessary stairs create a tripping hazard. The TV-over-the-fireplace is a somewhat dysfunctional and unoriginal way of dealing with those two potential focal points. The oversized breakfast table occupies too much of a kitchen that desperately needs more counter space. If the bath for the downstairs bedroom were reconfigured there would be room for a much-needed pantry closet as well as modifying the view from the outdoor deck. This house might work for others but it doesn't for me.
