I’ve just started watching some of your videos the past few days. I love the way you play. Sadly I frequently have trouble following what you’re doing. But, this video, for whatever reason, makes some sense to me and gives me a roadmap of what to practice without feeling overwhelmed. Thank you.

My playing completely changed when I started following Guthrie and it’s for the better! Wish I found this sooner!

You are one of the only teachers that emphasizes chord shapes. That was a breakthrough for me. Like connect-the-dots puzzles, the chord shapes are the outlines for everything, and make visualizing triads, arpeggios, scales so much easier. Thank you!

I signed up with Trapp on Artistworks and learned more in 30 days than in 5 years with the TH-cam guys. I’m playing all over the neck now. Listen to the man...chord shapes and triads are everything. Thanks Trapper

LOve your videos ! I am 72 years old , and have been playing and gigging guitar since 1963 . I agree with all your videos , and I know you are a real pro , and I appreciate all you are doing for all the younger players ! Keep on doing what you are doing and know that you are doing a service to all the younger players ! Make sure you are pounding into them that they have to understand and use the circle of 5ths and learn all their chords . Everything will come to them if they can understand these two things !

I love how Guthrie's videos all seem to relate to each other. I never feel like I'm being sent down a rabbit whole with random concepts. These concepts get reinforced with each video while being pushed to see/understand from different angles. We are all very fortunate that he takes the time to share his expertise with us.

How can anyone in their right mind ever leave this cat a negative comment!?! Guthrie, your great sense of humor and infectious personality shine thru in every video you make. Your (phenomenal) playing ability aside, you are truly an enjoyable guy. I'm going to take a zoom lesson just to chat with you for an hour.....forget the guitar lesson.

And yes I only play in the evenings when I get home from work never with no one else that’s why I never New this stuff. Appreciate you sir very much would not believe how much it has improved my playing your knowledge. Thank you

You are a great teacher Guthrie! Keep saying "the chord shapes, the chord shapes" because I learn something new every time. Also love when you show us these exercises to go with the concepts. Sometimes we need to hear it many times before it finally clicks in the right way. Love your playing, and just glad to have you sharing your knowledge with us. Wishing you all the best.

That looks like what I needed, I've been playing guitar a long time, but I don't know what I'm doing, I'm 66 years old I got my first guitar when I was like 8 years old my first song was on top of a smokey. My second song was The House of the rising Sun. My first my first guitar was a Stella Harmony 12 string. My first one was a plastic guitar my second one was a plastic guitar cuz it broke the first one. Then I got Stella I have a lot of friends that played guitar so I learned by watching. I took it to school with me everyday. Then I had injury and I lost the sensation in my fingers on my right hand so I quit playing I just recently started playing again maybe 2 years ago, I'm a truck driver so I take it with me. I've watched you and picked up quite a few things so far thank you I will be watching more.

Learning CAGED several months ago, and following your lessons on soloing out of the chord shapes has helped my playing develop more than anything else. Getting to the point of seeing the shapes as well as you do might take awhile, but it's well worth the effort. Yourself, and Mark Knopfler are my "heroes", because the melodic content in your playing is superb. I hope to get to that point someday. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have been an admirer of yours since I first saw you playing with Don Kelly. If I remember correctly, you were playing a G&L ASAT. I thought you were amazing then and you just keep getting more amazing as time goes on. I even remember seeing you with Patty Loveless at the Ryman and then hanging out over T Roberts. You were always so humble and approachable. I love your videos and hope to see you out live again when Nashville gets going and I can get back up there. Best wishes for continued success!

KIller exercise, Guthrie! A great twist on harmonized scale practice. Never seen anybody lay it out quite like this before. I have done this type of thing mostly just up and down the neck in thirds and on the same set of strings, but crossing strings and moving within the caged system makes so much sense.

I’m going to spend a month studying the first two minutes of this video. (At half speed) I never play in B minor and this just fascinates me. I’ve been playing around with relative major and relative minor substitutions for quite a while. I also have also played around with four string groupings of inversions relevant to a finger stylist And recognize most of the chords you lay down. This ties exactly in with what I practice and I thank you for such beautiful music to study during these dark times.

Been following you for some time, Guthrie... Just gotta say what makes your videos so great. First of all, your style is perfect for someone like me who'd rather finesse the instrument rather than approach it like a gorilla. Secondly, your blending of styles within your own style is just brilliant. Most of all though, I feel like I can follow your train of thought better than most... You got a unique ability to blend the no-nonsense with enough "theory" to make it great. Thanks for puttin' it out there man.
