I've been using welders and gas welding/cutting for 55 years ,I suffer from macular degeneration despite always using the very best eye protection. It's getting to the stage where I need a LED light to see the work in hand when welding. .The guys using the oxy torches to cut the discs will have really bad eye sight by now and I'd bet the heat from the job has given them cataracts.

    • @AffordBindEquipment

@@davidhamm5626 the current goes through the chuck and then precision bearings which could heat up or arc, causing damage. If it's hot enough to melt the electrode, the amperage can damage other things on the way. When welding on any machine, the ground needs to be on the piece being welded so there isn't that potential. the potential may be small but it's there. only takes once.

You see these trucks in other videos, overloaded to blazes and being driven by kamikaze drivers. That is how the break rims, break and bend front and rear axles and break diffs and axles.
Having driven older trucks load legally never broken anything like that. Though my father lost a wheel from a Lazy axle on a tipper that broke a stub axle. While never over loaded bouncing up over kerbs and the sideways drag killed it. You could see how the cracks got bigger over an extended period. We crack tested the other side and it was ok. And crack tested the front stubs and one of those was cracked as well.
That truck got converted back to single axle, was far better to use delivering into building sites and people driveways and lawns.

I can understand why they do it but I wouldn't trust any parts made from it. Plus no measurement on holes it looks like they guess where smfh. As you can see the fracture on the rim he cut off show you why is important to know the grade of the metal.

Visit them after several months again and they can show the progress like better tools or something. Lets say every donation goes directly to that and that person or workshop. Mechanic 001 and garage 001 or something like that. Yes delivery can cost big money but people can send old tools or PPE what they do not need. Little helps can make these people life much better

All those presses probably came out of factories and were new in the 1940's-50's onwards and they're still going strong.

I never really thought about it but the bolt hole locations on a wheel rim don't have to be super accurate as long as they're all laid out on the same circle line. (Dude laid them out by eye in this video.) They make the holes larger than they need to be. The wheel studs (which ARE accurately placed) go through the hole with a lot of play. Then the lug nuts (which have cones on them facing inward) then center the wheel concentric to the bearing. Someone who fixes the inner wheel (where the lug studs mount) probably has a special indexed jig to make sure the stud hole locations are all super accurate.

    question sécurité ......no coment.
Bravo en tout cas, et merci pour ces vidéos.

I live a bullshit life of production deadlines and maintenance budgets. Sometimes I think it would be nice to just engage in some fabrication and manual labour and at the end of a day enjoy the fruits of your labour with pride in craftsmanship.
