Thank you, Alex. There¨s something deeply comforting about this song and it grows on you. .I loved Soft Cell back then, simplistic and very emotional. Enjoyed their three first studio albums very much. and would reallly appreciate album reactions.
I bought the "Non-Stop Exotic Cabaret" album on the day it came out, took it straight home and played it on my headphones, and even after just 9 tracks it was my favourite album of the year, then *this* track came on and totally blew me away... such a fantastic song, even after all these years. Soft Cell were a great duo. The musician half, Dave Ball, was influenced by film soundtracks (especially John Barry), Northern Soul, and hardcore electronics like Kraftwerk & Suicide, and I think that mix comes across in their music. Singer Marc Almond still tours regularly (pandemics permitting!) and almost always finishes with this song - I've seen some audiences sing the entire song, real goosebump stuff...
Love the tune, love the lyrics. And its sung with passion which I always think makes a song great. When this first came out I was too naïve to appreciate it. Now one of my favourite tracks.
Classic debut album, especially for when it came out 1982 , I remember buying it, when it came out, when I was 13 , still sounds great now. The 2 albums he did as Marc and the Mambas, has some real classics on them too.
Have always liked Marc Almonds vocals on this especially on the orchestral parts. Sex Dwarf and Bedsitter are also two other good tracks on this album.
I know I am commenting on a very old video and others have probably said it already, but Soft Cell's final album, This Last Night in Sodom really is a tragically underrated tour de force. Well worth a listen.
Good old Soft Cell. They were probably the original synth duo, which became such a popular type of group later. You're right, their songs have this sort of basic DIY feel to them, but really catchy. Say Hello, Wave Goodbye is my favourite, but I do recommend listening to their first album. It's a wild and fun experience. They did other interesting songs, but never recaptured the spirit of the debut.
Probably my fav track of theirs.. Marc’’s Vocal pronunciation is brilliant , you can hear and understand every word he says , which is pretty rare I think . No need to break this down , ruins it..absolutely fabulous song!!
Soft Cell is a very interesting band to dig more in their catalogue. For this song, simple melody, but great chorus with beautiful multiple synths sounds. The next 2 albums are more artistic and complex.
There’s a great episode of Aziz Ansari’s Master of None in the first season where they let this play in full over the final scene of the episode, it’s a great needle drop (the first season had a great soundtrack in general)
You seem to know music theory. I don’t but I’ve always wondered have you changed how you view music from when you didn’t know theory? I’ve always thought that if I learned even basic theory that music wouldn’t seem so magical to me. That I’d constantly be taking it apart and not just listening
For me personally, some of the initial magic goes away when I learn what key it’s in/what the chords are. But it’s kind of like marriage. After the puppy love phase is over, and you come to know the other better, you grow a deeper appreciation for them. In the case of music for me, that’s being able to play the music myself and enjoy it that way.
I much prefer the remake. Say hello wave goodbye 91. Also check out the live version. I think it was about 2019. Gets the crowd joining in. Check it on YT and YT Music
What a masterpiece, the chorus still blows my mind. It is not necessary and there is no point in analyzing a song like this
It comes from the heart
And the oboe intro on the extended 12 inch version is amazing, so evocative.
It's a clarinet
Dave Tofani is the guy playing clarinet on the 12" version
Spot on mate
Glorious track, makes my heart sing

One of my favourite songs. Beautiful in its orchestral synth magnificence. So off beat at times. But it just works.

I just updated some of my Lps on to Cd and this was one.yeah I bought Non stop Erotic Cabaret when it was released and still have it 40 years later

Tune. Well underestimated.
Always loved this song. Marc Almond has such a great voice. Glad you appreciated it
Incredible track. Amazing synth lines 😎👌
You must listen to the 12" extended version as with all soft Cells 12" Extended's.
You are absolutely right. The clarinet intro gave me a lump in the throat

Sex Dwarf.love it.amazing listening in headphones and lol all the controversy when it got released 🧪🤣🤣

Watch this on video on the "12 years of tears concert " at the Royal Albert Hall. Marvellous!
This is one of the many re-recorded versions, doesn't have the grittiness of the original, but it is the best re-recording they did.

This is fucking class
This album takes me straight back to the dark side of west London. A slab of 80s that makes you feel a bit dirty but also joyus.
Great track
Next ...Bedsitter
Thanks for checking out my suggestions Alex, your channel remains the best on TH-cam
The extended version is sublime.
The long version is far better….
It’s a precursor to later torch style tracks that Marc went for. Loved it then and still do.
Excellent stuff, great reaction
Utter all time classic
Alex. It's the sound of my adolescence, so I am biased, but the whole is better than the sum of the parts, no?

That Prophet 5 though at 1.18 ❤

My songs going from a 16 year old to me today
I think their nexts albums are more interesting to react to. More artistic pop IMO. Love your channel Alex.
Check Bedsitter l. Great song
Is there a version slightly different to this one ?
There's a 12 inch version with a fab clarinet instrumental introduction.

Love this song. David Gray does a very good cover of this as well
He murders it.
