Can't help but think what a great analogy this song is to football. Research actually shows that a lot of football pros after retiring either ended up depressed or bankrupt. That drastic change going from thousands of people chanting your name every single day as you run and win trophies for your club and country to suddenly nothing must be extremely hard. Which is why I think Cantona probably loves this song so much, he represents an era long gone, when everything seems much more exciting and you can live everyday like it's your last. But it's also a realisation that all parts of life is beautiful in its own way, and no matter how much you want to go back to the past you can't. It's relishing what's left now when the wine has finally aged, all the bittersweetness of it all, and realising that life is so worth living because you've done it all once.

This song fits so well with Cantona, or any sportsman who's lived in the spotlight but has now moved on and is left with the memories of their career. Although Eric did say once he put his medals in a plastic bag in a drawer and moved on as he didn't want to be defined by his past. But every player must dream of the days when they had 75,000 people singing your name, once.

The location, the rooms all spent and empty from the finished party.......you look back at everything in your life.....you remember the wonderful and carefree younger years.....they dont last long....................nostalgia hits you right between the eyes and you know those old times are gone forever....

I always think of the story of Liam getting bashed in the head with a hammer when he was in school. I imagine he took some damage then and if unattended, his brain was a bit mangled.
