I bought a Acer nitro 5 and have owned it for roughly 5 months.

It has handled every single game I have thrown at it.
From Squad to Battlefield and forza horizon 3.
It does indeed get warm and hot but the nitrosense with cool boost keeps it in the safe range. Still a little warm to the touch on the top left of the keyboard but never uncomfortable.
This is a great laptop and I think Dave compares who this laptop is made for to his own personal standards which his standards cost 1000s of dollars.
I wanted a laptop do some schoolwork and replace an aging PC (R7 260X A10 CPU) and to do some fairly heavy gaming. It does all I ask it to do in Full HD running most new games on high or medium to high.
This is indeed the best gaming laptop for the price
Im not talking down on Daves reviews. I just think he doesnt understand the concept of a budget laptop.

I mean, i will save $200 bucks or $100 bucks for better Cooling. If the Laptop have some throttle, you gonna be "damn, why i'm buying this laptop" for the sake of the money also. Why you need to buy a laptop that gonna heat up and ended in the Service Centre, when you can save up about $100 - $200 for good cooling and not going to the Service Centre....Because, i'm experience it, have laptop with Thermal Throttle, and having a bad cooling or Thermal Design... Or, if i want to not adding more money, i'm searching some information "What i5-8300H laptop will comes up", or search some information about i5-7300HQ laptop....

dude, you really should get more in touch with your viewers... saying "but again, it's just a $900 laptop" means you have no idea how the majority of people live. To many, a lot many, this is a higher mid-range laptop, and $900 is A LOT to many, people would be saving up for it.
$900 *is* a midrange laptop whether you like it or not. There are laptops which go above $2000 or $3000 and only those are considered premium laptops

I got the 1050ti - i7700hq, 16gb ... i'm very satisfied with this laptop, depends what games you play, but i play fortnite, cs go and fifa currently and it runs the games very well.
I think, for the first time, I disagree with your review. Saying it's a "Wrong Choice" are very strong words considering it has great build/looks, great specs, great price, good keyboard/mouse and no major downside.. the fans are quite and even have cool boost

Talking about laptops, I've experienced both Mac and Windows...honestly they are really good, but of course they're not gaming laptops whatsoever, it's depending on what are you aiming for :)

So what? Credit where it's due. Even as a PC guy, i acknowledge that while extremely expensive, apple always make solid computers. The quality is there, speakers and display are always great, security. And it's still the go to in the industry for video editing and stuff like that.
Dave "likes" their products so that he can be fair across the industry and give the best options to us. And besides, he's been trashing apple for the last few months due to their new prices too. It's better to be fair then to hate purely based on the brand.

Chinoy Sethi I also bought it recently. As soon as I did, I downloaded Skyrim special edition and instantly modded my game. It runs really well at ultra settings and mods, at around 60 fps! The laptop fans get a bit loud while playing but I wear earphones so I can't hear a thing. I haven't had many thermal issues either, and I've been playing for 4-5 hours each day. I also prop up my laptop with a pencil case or something to help with ventilation, but ultimately it's up to the Turbo cool boost feature to keep the laptop cool. Will definitely be buying a laptop cooler soon because I don't wanna end up frying any wires after extensive usage. Hope this helped 👍🏼
Lara Kate i am not able to get full performance when the charging is unplugged. Changed quite a few settings, but nothing works out.
Otherwise it is pretty good when plugged in.
Chinoy Sethi Yeah, I get what you mean. But I never really game unplugged because my experience with all laptops is that the baterry drains quite quickly. When it's unplugged, I normally use it minimum energy tasks like school work or browsing the web.
All the gaming laptops are meant to get a low performance or FPS when its unplugged because due to the lacking of power supply from the batteries itself so when u plug in it will boost its battery power and supply a very good performance for example like when unplugged u get a maximum 60 fps constantly changing around 60 - 20 fps in DOTA 2 whilst if plugged in you will gain a stable 90-120 fps in DOTA 2 on this Acer Nitro 5.

Got it for $500 and at the start it runs pretty hot, but i've installed a cooling pad and throttlestop to help the heat reduction. Games run great and it's ABSOLUTELY worth the money. The monitor is only 60hz but I sometimes plug mine into a 144hz screen with a HDMI when I'm stationed and it works perfect.
If you find one for a decent price, go for it.
I want to try ,but if im going to connect it to my monitor,I'll just build a custom desktop instead..
Hey, I'm currently facing thermal issues on my device. It's been a year since i purchased it and the temps wouldn't go beyond 90° but from past 1 month the thermals are touching 96°. Any solution or reasons you might know of?

Bought this laptop with i5 7300, 8gb ram, GTX 1050ti for 730 Euro. While playing games without coolboost i get around 65 celsius degees in the GPU and around 75 c in the CPU . it gets a bit loud but i dont feel any enormous hit in the keyboard. People who got skeptisch after this review should not be afraid. If you want a cheap casual gaming laptop go for it.

I have this laptop but 2018 edition ( GTX 1060 ) and use it for video editing, love it so much. For the price point this is the cheapest and worth buying on the market right now. Im not complaining what so ever. Get this one you'll never regret it.

I paid $1400 for this laptop because I live in Canada. The Acer VX15 costs over $1700 with tax over here in Canada, good review but your recommendations are over 300+ more dollars here in Canada. I've done quite a bit of research and have determined that this laptop is the best price to performance for the Canadian viewers watching...

Valvze same specs as the one Dave has, but the Canadian dollar is currently horrible.
the variant with 8Gb and i5 costs 1030€, and the 16 Gb and i7 costs 1300 euro in germany.
VX 15 costs with 8gb, 1050Ti and i7 1145€
so it would be cheaper to travel to germany to buy a computer and having a bit of sight seeing;-)
on the other hand you would have to deal with a german keyboard layout >.
But even 1030€ is over CA$1500.

Same here, and I am happy with my decision.
As a recent NItro 5 user, i may have a few tips on how to control the temperatures. I run games like fallout 4 and Total War Rome 2 (I purposely run them at 1600X900 because of the fps dropping below 60 sometimes in 1080p, not sure whether the non-TI 1050 4GB Vram is not capable or because i am short on RAM (8gb only)), but even at 900p my Nitro 5 runs very hot, average temps of 80-90, even reaching 97 degrees. So after a bit of research, i came across throttlestop, and in the FIVR settings, i lowered the max turbo ratio limits of each core from 40 to 35 ( The i5 8300h's base processing speed is 2.5ghz, boostable up to 4.0ghz). So essentially, i lowered the maximum turbo boost of the i5 8300h to 3.5ghz (down from 4.0ghz), alongside a -125mv of undervolt. Now my Nitro 5 doesn't overheat anymore, average temps of around 70-80 with barely any noticable drop in frames. Hope this helps! ;D
Edit : Turns out the high temps in my case is just bcs of bad factory thermal paste, i went and replaced it with KRYONAUT THERMAL GRIZZLY and now at max boost (4.0ghz), getting max temps of 80ish, avg of 70ish.
Tip : Just replace ur thermal paste, factory ones suck.
Note : If ur having hesitations just wait until the warrantys over, like mine when i went to replace the thermal paste.

@@Kisuke242 hi, now i'm running it at 3.6 max turboboost and running fallout 4 at 1600x900. Settings are TAA,SSAO,medium shadows, and some other minor settings i forgot (i use a lot of mods and fallout 4 configuration tool). i get around 55-60 fps constantly, temps are around 78-82.

If you can afford 900$ laptop you can afford add extra 100$ for it not to die after hour of gaming. Overheating...not that much; i mean why would anyone play for a really long time with a laptop tho i don't understand
I have had this for 6 months by now I could set it up (undervolt, max fan speed while gaming, repaste with good thermal paste, cool room temp) so now without overheating I can play for hours with no throttling. so Maybe with older generations one couldn't extend gaming, nowadays with the new gen it is different.

For where I live, we get the Nitro 5 version with Ryzen 5, GTX 1650, 8GB RAM which is expandable to 16GB, 1TB HDD, 2 SSD slots for expansion.
The above configuration retails at approx 650 dollars. So easy to recommend.
I miss the thermal test Dave. You talk too much about the thermal design, very logic words but: where are the numbers? Numbers are critical to say if thermal design isnt effective.

I used a temp monitoring program and he's wrong. It's usually always at 70. That's not overheating in the slightest. He's just rich so he thinks everybody else should buy laptops for people with a ton of money.

Mass Games Of course it has the best price/performance because unlike other brands, Acer decided not to update the nitro 5 with better cooling to handle 8th gen cpus. So they don't have to spend money on R&D and they can price it cheaper.

I use it for Python a lot right now and the battery life holds up well. :)
I’ve had this laptop for a year now and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a laptop under $600, a quick search on eBay and you’ll find one for $525 and the only complaint I’ve ever had is it gets up to 80 degrees when playing really graphical games. Luckily though, with a quick repaste temps dropped down to 65 being the max, and 55 being the average. The screen is another complaint that people have had, you can replace the screen with a much better 120hz screen easily for $50. If you want a gaming laptop and you don’t have much money, get this. Simple. (Edit: he said the speakers aren’t great, I think they’re extremely good for a $800 retail laptop.)

I bought the Acer Nitro 5 as a introductory to PC gaming, as I grew up console gaming. It was "cheap," yet still a bit of a hefty price. (when I say cheap, I mean cheap by gaming laptop standards) But not bad quality cheap. The sound the speakers give out is really loud, (not a bad thing) the screen resolution is beautiful, the fact that it has cooling software WITH the laptop makes the Nitro 5 surpass many other gaming laptops. It is sturdy, simplistic, light, and gets the job done. I have run countless games on here and not once has it crashed, nor do I EVER expect it to crash. When I bought mine, it also came with a 30 day subscription of Norton Security Ultra. (antivirus protection) I honestly couldn't ask for more from this laptop. Not to sound rude toward Dave, but he in a way almost makes himself sound like we should buy better and more expensive laptops/PCs. Some of us are not as fortunate as others to buy high end products such as yourself. I actually make monthly payments for it, even then, I am still paying $100 a month for such a well priced gaming laptop. Keep in mind, me being 17 and only making around $$300 a week, $100 is A LOT, OR just shelling out $600 upfront is still A LOT for people like me. On top of that I also need to pay my other bills, and I GUARANTEE anyone who relates to this will agree. Also with the cooling software, I am able to make custom cooling. It also has "Acer Care Center." You can access it to remove junk files you don't need, check the status of the battery, set certain programs to different levels of priority, and so many other features! Also, so what if it doesn't look "gamer"? It's a laptop... All that matters is that it WORKS and that it works WELL, and that's what it does. I ABSOLUTELY and HIGHLY recommend this laptop for ANYONE. I promise that this won't be a purchase you regret, it's WORTH IT!!! I know if in the future someone asks me what they should start with, this laptop will be the first one I mention.

and here's what I have to say about it:
1. It's not really "The wrong choice" although it's not perfect, I really went through every single one as I needed a powerful laptop for gaming/editing/general uni stuff anyway and I ended up picking the nitro 5 for £650. It can be warm and loud but at the same time I've never seen it struggle to handle anything I have thrown at it.
2. Cooling can be weird, although Dave does make a fair point on how the heat has to travel, cooling isn't bad - again, i've never seen it throttle and I've taken it to a few gaming events. The actual problem comes with the fact that the fans are on the bottom (a natural position), to combat this, I've ended up propping the laptop so it has more ways to get airflow to the fans. Saying that, though. Acer really could've just used a different cooling style rather than sticking them both together.
3. *this is important* SSD's are a lot faster, BUT. the Nitro 5 doesn't change build structure depending on which version you choose. I opted to have a slower laptop with a bigger storage capacity because I really needed it. You can actually install the HDD after if you choose to buy the SSD model (which i wish i had known so whoops). The versatility of upgrading your RAM & HDD is amazing considering the way the market is going, including the fact that you can actually have two drives! --- I am really amazed by that since I thought I would ahve to live with having an HDD now.
4. Battery life is... truly awful.
I just want to put this here as people who see the title of the video may (almost like me too) get put off buying the Nitro 5 when it really isn't bad at all. It's a mid-tier laptop that performs surprising well with really good build quality. It is a beast of a laptop....

@@fojez_ 8GB of ram is fine for most games out there. Plus gtx 1050ti is a tad bit better than half the performance of gtx 1060. You're missing those nice frame rates and are justifying your purchase with the extra 8 gigs of ram. Btw the €1000 laptop I mentioned can also install more RAM 😉

Abhishek Gupta 7567 has a bad display, they fixed that now. GTX 1060 Max-Q which supports VR. Thunderbolt 3 port which is another bonus. This has to be the all-rounder.

Kimion The infamous poor quality TN panel is the only thing holding back the 7567 from being the best mid-range gaming laptop. Many disliked it as a slighty tilted viewing angle can change the display completely.
well you need to tilt it quite a bit to see a big difference, also you usually look at your screen straight on so i don't really see why this would be a reason to not buy it.
Now at year 2023, this thing still going strong. Been using as a daily Gaming laptop since the released, plugged with external 165hz acer nitro monitor and upgraded 32GB RAM & windows 11.
Here with my 2020 model. Still an absolute beast of a machine

I don’t think he understands that the reason people buy the acer nitro 5 is because it is cheap and reliable. I’m pretty sure everyone knows that there are better options but they are much more money and most people don’t have that sort of money.
Although I’ve only owned this laptop for a few weeks, it works great! Apex, Fortnite, and other games work amazing. For 600 bucks, 8GB Ram, 256 SSD, intel i5 (which realistically is not much worse than and i7), GTX 1050, great looks, and has a decent screen is incredible. This is just an opinion of a 12 year old nerd tho. Feel free to disagree.

Bought a nitro 5 recently and I have to say I am very satisfied with this laptop. And I have tested ACER Nitro 5 for playing this Battlefield 1 and DMC 5. It's a low-cost gaming laptop that I have satisfied and recommend you to buy to get the best graphics at a lower rate.
Well, ive had mine for a couple months now and a friend of mine has the helios 300 and regarding thermals it doesnt throttle a bit, even been playing on it on the beach, idk why you throw so much shit at it and focus so much on the fan design when the helios 300 has the very same system.... explain that?

I love that it comes with the 1060 max q and the thunderbolt 3, but i got such a go price on it. I cant bare the thought if im will to pay about 400 dollars just to upgrade to the 1060.
Can i prevent the heating issue on the nitro 5 without it being loud?
undervolting the cpu and replacing the thermal paste, you could even use liquid metal for even better thermals if you take that risk

The Nitro is a good budgetary laptop that gives you excellent hardware without breaking your bank account. I own the Nitro 5, but if you're type who likes great audio on your laptop, I would stay away from this laptop for its lackluster audio and the Dolby Audio software that comes included with the computer doesn't have a bass control. The graphics are very good and the dark colors and detail look great because of the IPS display.
I literally like the comments a lot more than the video, they were actually helpful in what I was looking for

I bought the nitro 5 , i7 with 2gb gtx 1050 even after watching this video because the price at which i got it was really good . The laptop you are showing is the top end of this series . Obviously there are more options in that price bracket . To all those indians who are skeptical about acer nitro 5 , dont be . If you are getting the nitro 5 in your price range go for it !( amazon and flipkart keeps dropping good discounts once in every 2-4 weeks )

I got the “NITRO 5 2018” by this year 2020 for only $700 and the reason why i get the 2018 model is that i will not void the warranty by just adding some ram and replacing the HDD to SSD because they have their own compartment while the 2019 vers. You have to open the whole laptop and you will completely void the warranty by adding ram and upgrading your HDD to SSD... I play and stream on this laptop and its great and i stream on this laptop for at least 6H on it and i dont even notice that it thermal throttle just a reminder if your going to do a heavy load on this laptop just put the fan on MAX so it will cool down the CPU and GPU i really like this gaming laptop and it worth the money...
PS: Linus really love this laptop and i love the way he review than d2d LOL
