That's a good idea for checking the moisture. I usually just pack it in a five gallon bucket. At first knotters look complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it isn't so bad.🍻🍻
We've had 1.5"rain since 2:30 this afternoon... It was getting dry, we needed it..... let the green chop crop grow.....I'm doing my time a the day job tomorrow to make up for Humpday when we were raking and baling, just can't bring myself to using any leave time...lol.Thanks Ed, have a great Friday.

Good morning Ed, Don't have much for Muskrats here this year. Sometimes in winter, we will get 80 percent die off. It usually doesn't take them long to build up again. Years ago we had a small square baler. Seemed like one knotter was always giving grief. Tinker with it and get it working , make a few bales, and then the other one would give problems, lol. Mornin Ed!☕☕☕ Knotters can be a PITA !! We had an International 50 T bailer & the only person that could adjust the knotters right was one of the mechanics from the dealer & sometimes he had trouble.

On the old baler, we've done everything to the #3 knotter, it just won't leave the tail long enough.. adjust it so it does and the first knot won't hold.. but on the new baler, it's the #6, on the edge of the bale, kinda important to have twine on the edge.. Hopefully I can get it working all the time 🤞

@@Rollinghillsfarmsmn we still guess, but when In doubt.. we have moisture testers on both balers, the will read a consistent number, but it's usually twice as much, until the actual moisture is below 9-12%..
You and I probably get the same Forage magazines, the double knotter system not really understanding how that works. Pretty easy to adjust that tail with just the single knotter. I think sometimes the twine disc pinion gear just needs to be replaced.
@@michiganhay7844 I would imagine that we do. And 95% of what is in them, is Midwest, Arizona, Utah.. all the irrigated alfalfa.. but still informative!. Double knot just has a different cam, same principle. We've replaced pretty much all the parts on a lot of knotters over the years.. as long as the frame is still in good shape..
You always need to be prepared!!! I've done the same thing many times. Do they have an estimated hours of operation to replace those worm gears? We didn't get rain yesterday for once. Our grass has to be cut every week. Thanks Ed!

Great hay test! I still guess and tedd like crazy😅. NH balers now come with moisture monitors built in.
