  • This is a complete run through of Dragon's Lair by a very talented player that lives here in Perth, Australia - Salah. Played on a reproduction cabinet (in Cal's home Arcade) with original game hardware. This was one attempt, one man, to the finish. No commentary - Gameplay Only!

Great gameplay. Weird that this video didn't come up in subscriptions playlist.

Thanks mate. For all "Gameplay Only" videos I won't be notifying the subscriptions list (and therefore these won't appear in the subscriber playlist). This is because I potentially intend to upload a lot of these (sometimes a number at once) and I don't want to spam subscribers when these are uploaded. Subscribers get notifications for the main episodes and of course you can always check out the "Gameplay Only" playlist for uploads or see them as they hit the channel main page. Cheers :)

Hard to believe that this game came out in 1983.

When this came out over 40 years ago, I use to go to the arcade when it cost .50 cents to play. I memorized it and went through the game without losing a 🧍‍♂️ great 👍🏾 video. Brings back memories ❤

Great to watch someone actually playing the game, not just watching the video.

I blew all my allowance for two months in a row playing this before I beat it in 1984.

Wow, very impressive. I can beat the game, but not on just one man. That takes real skill!

Not really. It's fully learning.. Not skill
You can beat the game if you have enough coins ;)

Love this game..I have the trilogy box set of all 3. This was the first game in the 80's I beat. My buddy could do it blind folded by listening to the sounds alone. Also i'll tell ya a trick on how to beat the black knight on the checkerboard floor...Simply take the joystick and move it in circle pattern and Dirk wll jump to the appropriate squares...I have more tricks If I remember them i'll post them but looks like you have it down . Also you can tell which way to go by what side his sword is hanging on....Thanks for posting.

I buy the 20th anniversary dvd and try the arcade mode. I wonder why there's no bridge scene and now I know that it's not in the original cabinet. This DVD is better that most conversion. Anyway, incredible player!

Great game, but try it on the hardest setting (knight mode) and try to beat the 5 random screens that are repeats, but much harder in timing. (Swinging fire ropes, darker colored knight horse, swinging pendulums and thorn bushes, moving purple checker floor, cave ground opening up and spider). Much more difficult with shorter intros on other scenes, so you'll need quciker reactions. Good luck!

Yes, completion of this (beating the dragon) and successfully passing through all the sequences would get you over 300,000 points every time.

Like oh God I played this back in 87 but trust me I walked out after 3 hours with a bloody nose and 3 dollars worth of quarters. Short story, I realized the arcade was scamming me so I fought the manager (via argument) and I won and just as I was boutta get my quarters back the manager punched me in the nose.

Lost my money rather quickly in this game after it came out. Never understood what to do. Haven’t seen it anywhere as an adult. I never remembered seeing any prompts or instructions anywhere on what exactly to do. Maybe after watching you play, one day I’ll find it at a real retro arcade somewhere and actually try it one more time.

    • @randomizzer2389

And what is that constant awful “tink” sound in the background! It’s driving me nuts the whole time you were playing!

There are versions that have directional arrows and a prompt to use the weapon - imo that is the best version because the alerts are too small to see in the original. I recommend finding the version that has the arrows and action prompts, it makes the gameplay easier to understand while maintaining some challenge.

Not an easy game... lots of memorization and getting used to the reverse of each puzzle stage. I only ever beat it on the PC, and only after about hundreds of attempts... but once you got it... you got it.

  • @nightshadehelis9821

Just curious, does the game punish you for pressing too early or too much? Would you die if I pressed the wrong button immediately after I pressed the right one, or if I hit it twice?
I can definitely see how this sucked quarters, lol. Some of these look confusing. I wouldn't always know when to attack or move unless I practiced a bunch.

    • @odcrl1
      @odcrl1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

On some levels yes, you die if you press the wrong button or if you press it too early.

As a kid, this definitely sucked quarters! I hated it. The graphics were beautiful at the time, but there was no way to know when and where to use the joystick. Til this day, I don't know if it was a faulty arcade I played or if this game really was that picky on your timing. I hated it after thinking that it was so picky. We never even got past the first challenge.
