  • A fantastic morning spent at Tring on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from Virgin Trains, London Northwestern Railway, Southern and freight from Freightliner, DB Cargo UK, GBRF, DRS and Rail Operations Group.
Tring station was opened by the London and Birmingham Railway in 1837 when the company extended its line from London Boxmoor to Tring. The station gained some fame when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert took the royal train north of London and had to call at Tring in order for the train to take on water. This in turn brought out crowds of locals to see the royals and the train. Because of the level of interest that the train brought Queen Victoria asked to have the train run at a reduced speed for the remainder of the journey.
The acquisition of the land wasn't easy however as the owners of the Harcourt Estate wanted an enormous sum of money for the L&BR to build a station at Tring. However because of the town's folk were so enthusiastic about getting a train station they actually managed to raise the funds which allowed for the station to be built by bridging the gap between what the estate wanted and what the railway company were prepared to pay.
Joining me today was Trainspoteast and Camjkerman so please do check out their respective channels.
My next film is from Cheddington.
You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2019.

Great video Jarred especially seeing those two class 37's. My favourite locomotive ever. Could listen to hours of thrash from those units. I think that was the Northern Belle 47 being hauled by 37611 there. Have to double check that one.

Hey Jarrod. I thought I would tell where the 350/2s would be going once off lease. London Northwestern announced that they would be replacing the Class 350/2 units with brand new Class 730 "Aventra" units.
In October 2018, Porterbrook (the company that owns the 350/2s) announced it was considering converting its fleet of Class 350/2s to Battery electric multiple units for potential future cascades to non-electrified routes.

You'll find a lot of railways in the UK had a difficult time getting through the countryside as it was all owned by different families who just wanted way to much money which meant that the railway companies had to create bizarre routes weaving around places just to avoid any further problems. But I loved spending my time here there was so much passing through. Many thanks for watching my friend :)

@@Tornado922 I'd have thought it was a 57 rather than a 47. The Dellner coupling and modified roof grills would suggest this. Also, there isn't a 47312 but there is 57312 and it's livery is correct. I actually saw 57312 passing Peterbourough on Saturday which meant it was fresh in my mind :)

Pity Northern are trying to scrap theirs. Every Saturday we get strike action as a result and have been doing since August. My local station, Rainhill, has no trains calling there on Saturday's. The most historic station on our rail network reduced to this because of the operator that's supposed to serve it.

The display boards are at the top end of the station. You won't find any speed signs at this station as the line speed for VT is roughly 110mph through here. For the commuter traffic and freight they will be hitting around the 90 to 100 mark. Although the freight will be limited to 80 because of their weight
